I had the opportunity to eat at the Bud Jones Bayou restaurant soon after it opened and I really enjoyed it there. Their gumbo has portions of shrimp and crawfish in it on a bed of rice and was made just how I like it.
The only other Cajun restaurant I really like in east Texas that I have tried is the Cookin’ Cajuns place on the Canton grounds during first Monday. The gumbo at Bud Jones is just as good and I highly recommend it.
While I was there someone else got the banana pudding and it looked pretty good too but I was too full to get me some.
The restaurant is connected to the Bud Jones garage which is a car repair shop that goes back decades and is truly a landmark location in Tyler as it has been here forever.
I love the expansion into the restaurant business and it is more than obvious they know what they are doing when it comes to making Cajun food.
Please do me a favor and go by and try their gumbo, it is really good and the cooks there are full of personality which really completes the picture when you find a hole in the wall gem like this.
Bud Jones is now a great place for your car repairs and for lunch!
