TXU Electric Delivery is now Oncor Electric Delivery since deregulation occurred in 2002. Oncor Electric Delivery is the pole and wires company in the North and North East areas of Texas. If you are having a power outage you would call Oncor to have them repair the lines. TXU Energy is the incumbent electric provider in the East Texas area and is not to be confused with Oncor Electric Delivery. Oncor does not sell electricity service but TXU Energy does. In certain areas like Big Sandy and other pockets around East Texas you only have Cherokee Electric Coop as a choice for electricity service. TXU Energy was the monopoly retail electricity company in this area but there are now over 50 different East Texas electricity providers to choose from. Not all East Texas electric companies offer competitive electric rates and some energy companies advertise rates that look cheap until you receive your first bill. TXU Energy is an established brand in East Texas and have multiple electricity companies competing against them on price. You can compare a few other electricity companies with TXU by visiting the Electric Companies category.
In certain areas in East Texas there is only one electric company available and there is no choice. Big Sandy is an example of an East Texas city that has only one electric provider. Cherokee County Coop is the electric coop in some East Texas towns and if they are the energy company in your city then you have no choice in picking a provider. For awhile Cherokee County Electric had much cheaper electricity prices then electric companies selling energy in the deregulated areas of Texas. Recent comments from their customers now say that Cherokee raises their rates during the course of a contract and it becomes a hassle to call them and negotiate the rate back down. We called them to see what their current electric rate was at. They have a 11 cents per kWh as of today although 2 months ago it was around 11.5 cents a kWh. In comparison we called one of the cheapest electric providers in Texas with a positive rating score from the PUCT and found that a cheap rate in the deregulated areas of Texas is going for 10.3 cents a kWh (April 7 2009) (and that includes all charges). The difference is that Cherokee County Electric Co-op's rate is a variable rate and the 10.3 cent rate is a fixed rate. Unfortunately Cherokee can raise your electricity price on you if fuel prices go up. Cherokee does not offer a fixed electricity price.
Bounce Energy offers electric rate plans to meet many peoples situation. Bounce is a residential Texas electric provider that services Tyler and East Texas as well as Dallas and Houston. Bounce offers no deposit guaranteed electric rate plans as well as fast move in choices for those needing service turned on right away. Bounce has no commitment electricity rates that have a price ceiling but no price floor. If electric rates in Tyler Texas begin to come down due to fuel price decreases as a customer of Bounce you will receive a lower electricity price.
Yes, I think Southern Utilities should have a website where you can pay your bill. It would make it a lot easier for everyone. I have never heard of a company not having a site to pay online or not having a drop off box either. Dirty water comes out of my faucet sometimes.

Mercados: My favorite Mexican Restaurant! It's the most economical, consistent eatery in Tyler. Great Service! (Martha), Excellent Food!, FREE Chips & Salsa , FREE Tortillas and Free Ice Cream too!!! Not like El Charro...Too High and Bland, Bland, Bland! Nothing free there.

Breakers: I am sorry to say I was not impressed. I felt it was priced a little too high for what (qty) you get. I can get the same thing at Red Lobster and get free cheddar bay biscuits too. In this economy you need something as a "hook" free...Roadhouse has rolls, Red Lobster has biscuits, etc.
