The Peer Pressure of Working in Restaurants

First I wish to say that I am not writing anything negative about the restaurants in itself, just about how hard it is to have a normal life while you are working there. Yes, it's fast money right then and that is what mostly attracts people. We live in a world where everything is supposed to be instant gratification. Restaurants are good things that provide lots of jobs for people. Tyler restaurants are not bad, what is not so good is the lifestyle that goes on for most people that work in them. I know, because I myself have worked as a waitress for several years. In fact, that is the only job I have had consistently. I have tried other things, but ended up back in some restaurant because I knew the money would be there daily.

There is a lot of partying going on after hours because that is your life. You are there most of the time the whole day so the only thing left over to do after you get off is to go drink at bars because it's the only thing left open by then. Don't get me wrong nobody is forcing people to go out. We each choose to on our own. For me it was hard because I was a follower and people person. I wanted to have friends and at that time I really did not see anything wrong with it. Most people actually don't. My thinking was, work hard, play harder. I thought I deserved it and could not see any farther than right then. I really had no plans for the future. I always talked about saving money so I can better myself, but I always ended up spending it on my bad habits at the time. I am not saying that everyone who works in a restaurant, parties. You can talk to anyone who has worked in the environment and find out for yourself that most do.

I have a daughter now and I know that when she is ready to get a job I won't like it if she begins working at a restaurant because I know how hard of a life that is. Nothing wrong with working there, but not very morally encouraging. Anywhere you go there is peer pressure but for some reason it's way more in restaurants. It is probably because it is where your life is and you feel like its the only thing you have left. On the other hand you could be the type of person or have a child who knows what they want and are not very easily persuaded in doing the wrong things.

Restaurants do need people to keep them going and they do help lots of families and somebody has to work there to be able to stay open. I know that this seems like I am being mostly negative, but really I am just stating or warning of the dangers that you could face if you or your children want to work in a restaurant. The problem is nobody thinks that their children will fall into this trap. Wrong, if you surround yourself with people where all they do is drink and party more than likely eventually you will join the crowd. I wish I had known about this before I got myself too deep in it.

At the same time you can't force people to do what you want them to. I guess its possible, but if someone has their mind made up, its what they want. They will find a way no matter what you say or do. If your child is still at home there is hope. You can still make a difference. While they are still under your roof, you are responsible for their lives. Once they are gone, well its either too late or too hard to get them to listen to what you have to say about it.

Make sure you know exactly what your children are getting into before something happens that later on you wish you could have changed. I hope this will help you to know some of the good and bad of working in Tyler Texas restaurants. Teach your children it is okay to say no and not join people just to feel welcomed in a group. It is better to have no friends than to have some who will lead you in the wrong path. Nobody plans for bad, but it happens everyday because people don't know the truth about some things.

I hope you understand, I have been there and lost too much time being stupid and chasing easy money. I almost lost my life several times because of decisions I made. Everybody has to choose for themselves the lifestyle they are going to live and each is responsible for the decisions made. But sometimes, the friends you have are not helping you. In fact, its more harmful. They are in trouble themselves and can't lead you in a good direction.
