East Texas State Fair 2011

September 30th, 2011

I went to the East Texas State Fair a few days ago on my lunch break and visited everything going on there. I didn’t ride any rides but I did go by the petting zoo, art contest building, business booth area, and the photography contest setup, the food area, an eco/farm building, and I watched some animal showings.

I didn’t end up buying any food but if I had I probably would have gone with a Purple Pig barbeque sandwich and some pie from the Trinity Lutheran shed.

For some reason this years fair seemed kind of blah. Maybe it was because the Pure Energy Band guys were there again touting the healing effects of a plastic bracelet with a hologram sticker.

I would say my favorite things I saw were the art in the art contest building, the petting zoo, and the baby chicks.

I no longer like riding fair rides because I don’t like the spinning sensation in my head.

I recommend the fair for taking your kids to especially for the petting zoo (which is free).

As far as going to the fair for the food…the only thing worth going out of your way for might be the pies at the Trinity Lutheran booth. Stay away from the Turkey Legs, those things are tough as tires and I learned that lesson several years ago.

The Cliffs in Lindale is one of my top 10 favorite East Texas Destinations

September 29th, 2011

For those who are always looking for something to do in East Texas you don’t have to feel like there is nothing to do in your town, consider the cliffs. So how much does all this fun cost? We went in September of 2011 and we paid $6 a person. It was well worth the price!

This place is fantastic for the dare devil or for someone who can manage to have just a little excitement in their life. There is a cliff to dive off of for almost anyone here right into a crystal blue pool of aquifer water.

Do to the small amount of sulfur in this spring you don’t have to worry about critters and amoebas swimming around in this water which keeps it feeling like your swimming in a gigantic drinking water tank.

I took my brother here fr his birthday this summer as he prefers a present in the form of an experience or event of some kind and he was more than happy with the outcome.

We dove off several cliffs, swam around the large lake/aquifer/pool area and had a blast.

Unfortunately this place seems too good to be true and the legal liabilities seem pretty big if someone were to get hurt. Hopefully the worse case scenario might be you have to sign a release in case you kill yourself jumping off one of these cliffs.

In conclusion The Cliffs in Lindale offers one more reason why you can’t say there is nothing to do in this town.

Adults Having More Fun With Halloween

Spirit Halloween Costumes in Tyler

Spirit Halloween Adult Costumes

Here in the last few years, the Tyler Texas market has seen somewhat of a change regarding Halloween. More adults are now starting to get involved again with the tradition. Until just recently, Halloween was thought of as more of a kid’s tradition that focused solely on children’s costumes.

Things have now started to change and adults are starting to have a little more fun than they use to. The market has actually seen a thirty percent increase in adult costumes over the last couple of years. This is because adults are starting to have a better time dressing up and enjoying the holiday.

Maybe we have seen this increase because there is more stress in the workplace, so people want to take the chance to relax. The celebration of Halloween is different with adults than children. Adult costumes do not focus so much on movies and superheroes. Adult costumes have become increasingly more showy and sexy. I for one will dress up like a sexy ape this Halloween for maybe 5 minutes and that is about as sexy as I am going to get.

I dress as an ape because for once a year I like many adults want to relax and really show my sexy ape side of me and my awesome costume and have a good time. This new tradition is starting to make Halloween more fun for all age groups again. Adults are starting to get together more as a group to celebrate the tradition.

Believe it or not, sexy types of outfits have been the leading costumes for adults over the past couple of years for Tyler Texas Halloween costume shoppers. So there is proof in the pudding that we as adults are starting to enjoy the holidays a little more than we used to.

At the same time there are a lot of awkward moments as you see a teenage daughter of a friend from church in a catholic school girl outfit way to small for their body and they aren’t even catholic.

Guess who this Texas icon is?

April 26th, 2011

I found this old mask in my closet I got at a Dallas Texas parade way back when I was a kid.
