Find or Refer a Contractor in Tyler

Rosewood Studios, hidden in downtown Tyler

January 8th, 2010

Rosewood Studios in Tyler Texas, has been quietly successful for going on thirty years now. I say quietly because it seems few people here, realize it even exists. But with increased business more and more people are now in the know about this local Tyler music studio.

Started by Greg Hunt and Gary Leach, Rosewood Studios offers a full array of sound and audio, recording and editing services. Acrynon publishing, (the music publisher affiliated with the studio), helps song writers find the right musicians to purchase and perform the music they have composed. Having been in the business for so long Mr. Hunt and Mr. Leach, have established the connections that artists new to music industry have not.

The Client list is full of recognizable names from the music world. Artists like LeAnn Rimes, Steven Curtis Chapman, D.C. Talk, Jordan Sparks, Eisley, Paul Baloche and many many others, have worked in or with the studio in some capacity, over the years.
The studio is tucked away on West Erwin in Tyler and is fully outfitted with the latest in recording and editing technology. The Facility includes studios, recording rooms and a client area, equipped with a lounge and kitchen.

Studio time isn’t cheap at such a successful establishment, but it should be remembered that the clients typically get what they pay for. Hourly rates run at about ninety dollars an hour with a two hour minimum. Clients can also pay by the day, week or project. For more information go to their website at: www.rosewoodstudios.com.

Best Buy Tyler

January 8th, 2010

With the closing of Circuit City Tyler finds itself with only one major retail electronics store. Best Buy in Tyler is located on South Broadway behind Ryan’s Steakhouse. The store is generally neat and clean and has great customer service. If you’re looking for a more expensive product, particularly on the order of a new computer or Television, you should be able to find some fairly good sales. It’s the smaller items on which you’ll find some rather unreasonable mark ups. Any kind of cords, power supplies, or other accessories are far too expensive. I have often found myself turning to other sources like e-bay and have saved hundreds on brand new items.

The movie selection is pretty good. I can usually find what I’m looking for provided it’s not too obscure. Although I must confess, based on my last couple of visits, the movie selection seems to have shrunk some. That could be a reflection of a lack of quality product lately. If what you’re looking for isn’t there, I would suggest a visit to Barnes and Noble instead.

As a generally intelligent adult I find a trip through the music aisle an embarrassing experience. I’m not sure whether I should be ashamed by my own lack of knowledge about the current music trends, or whether the musicians themselves are the ones who should be ashamed, both of their own product as well as the way they appear on the labels. Maybe I’m just getting older, and more like my father, but I suspect it’s the latter. These days I prefer the anonymity of iTunes or Amazon when making my music purchases. Not that my tastes are that bad per say, I just find it awkward to explain my purchases, something I feel the inexplicable desire to do. It’s kind of similar to answering the infamous question, “What’s that book about anyway?”

I do enjoy the gaming section although I no longer have the time I once had to invest in that pursuit. By far the best part of the store for me is the computer section. I find it so satisfying to browse the aisles for things I’d love to have but can’t afford. Ok so that’s a bit cynical. I can actually afford a computer every couple of years or else I wouldn’t be typing this, but I digress.

Bottom line is that Best Buy in Tyler is a pretty good store if you like the retail giants. While I seldom go there just to hang out, I do enjoy browsing a little. Larger items are priced fairly low if you take into account the various rebates available, but when it comes to smaller items you’re probably better off trying a few other sources first. Stereo and Video Center on South Broadway

January 8th, 2010

In business since 1976, this company knows how to meet the video and audio needs of Tyler Texas. They specialize in home theatre sales and installation as well as car audio and GPS. When you walk in to the store you are greeted first by very large state of the art televisions and then by a smiling face who has time for you. They have an average of ten to nineteen qualified and experienced staff. Every time I have gone into the store I have been treated like an honored guest by those not already helping the other customers pick out audio or video equipment for their homes or vehicles.

My first experience was with their car audio department. I was in need of a CD player for my car that was capable of connecting with MP3 players. I decided to try Best Buy before anywhere else. I walked into Best Buy and found the car audio section. I expected standard Best Buy customer service. Instead I was ignored for about ten minutes while an employee laughed with a couple friends. Then I was curtly told that I need to drive around to the back where they are installed. The installation employee was working on a car. He saw me waiting and continued working without speaking to me. About five or ten minutes later he came out and rudely told me that I now needed to drive back around to the front to pick out a CD player. So I got in my car and drove across the street to Stereo & Video Center to see if they could offer better service.

I was pleasantly surprised. They were instantly friendly and helpful. I quickly realized that they only sold equipment that they would stand behind – quality. I was concerned about the price, and so the employee found one that was not on display that brought the price down significantly. They immediately went to work on my car. They even had attractive furniture set up in front of the plasma TVs so I could wait comfortably for them to finish with my car. My experience with Stereo and Video Center was so impressive that I only recommend them for such things to my friends and family. I tell people about their amazing customer service when exchanging customer service horror stories. I also returned to them as my first choice when I needed new speakers in my car.

The experience was once again above and beyond the business standard. On this second visit I felt even more taken care of. As I waited for my car to be worked on the other employees engaged in friendly conversation with me. There was a problem with the installation where they realized that I needed larger speakers than they had thought. The cost would have been an extra twenty dollars per speaker. Without me even asking, the employee said he just adjusted the price since he had quoted me the lower price before they started working. It was hard to believe, but this is how customer service should be. Tyler companies could benefit from having their employees visit and observe Stereo and Video Center in action. I have never been disappointed with this company, and you will not be either.
