Tyler

Ashley Furniture sells furniture for the living room, bedroom, dining room and office, plus home accents such as rugs, lamps and some soft furnishings. They have a mixture of contemporary and traditional designs, some rustic styles and also furniture especially for kid’s rooms.

When we bought our new house we needed lots of furniture. We wanted something low cost, contemporary and yet something that would last a good few years and withstand abuse from kids! We looked and looked and in the end, kept coming back to Ashley Furniture.

Ashley Furniture Homestore in Tyler

Ashley Furniture Homestore

Ashley furniture in Tyler is the number one selling brand for furniture in the US. They are able to offer great value for money as their enterprise is enormous – they have their own designers, warehouses and even fleet of trucks for transport so they can keep costs low. The negative side of this is that you know when you buy from Ashley that thousands of other families have the same furnishings as you and that you are not in any way innovative in your interior décor.

On our visits to Ashley in Tyler we were jumped upon as soon as we opened the door by enthusiastic salesmen. I’m not sure if they get commission but there must be something that motivates them to be extra attentive to their customers! Luckily we struck up an easy rapport with one of the salesmen and asked for him by name on subsequent visits. He was, it has to be said, very helpful and knew his stuff about the Ashley stock. He did his best to get us the best deal and negotiated within his limitations to get us a discount and reduced cost shipping as we were buying more than just one item. The kids loved being offered a drink and a freshly baked cookie and were happy watching a cartoon sitting on a comfy sofa whilst we looked at the furniture all around them.

One thing I hate about Ashley is that there are no catalogues or swatch samples available. I was desperately trying to match colors for curtains to match the sofa we had ordered but there was no help available. There is also absolutely nothing custom, you just have to take what they sell as it is, no changes or additions to sets etc. There is no chance of an extra leaf for a table and so on.

You are also stuck if you want something that isn’t in fashion at the time – originally I had this notion that I wanted a blue couch but there were none in their inventory. However there were plenty in creams, fawns browns and reds – I just had to alter my taste to suit the current fashion! The website is really not very well designed either, it is almost impossible to get a good look at the furniture online and no prices are listed as they vary from state to state.

The furniture itself is – on the whole, good quality. Certainly our Durapella suite has withstood a lot of serious wear (and even a small child’s puking incident!) It really does clean up as easily as we were promised. We had a minor issue with the kitchen table but someone was sent very quickly to fix the problem and he was most apologetic. I must say, Ashley’s after sale customer service was very good.

Open: Mon-Fri 10am – 5.30pm

The Woodshed in Tyler Texas sells unfinished and finished real wood furniture plus custom made pieces which can be stained to order. They specialize in matching items with furniture you already own and in providing corner furniture or pieces that you need to fit your home in a special way. They boast in having every type of furniture for every room of the home.

We came across the Woodshed after admiring a beautiful solid wood dining room table belonging to friends. They told us that they had stained and finished it themselves and paid less doing it that way. We were intrigued and went to visit the store ourselves. The furniture at the Woodshed instantly impressed us. We were keen to purchase bedroom furniture to match our bed but could only afford to buy them one piece at a time over a period of 6 months. The staff at the Woodshed matched the color for us and kept the mixture on record so that when we went to re-order they could stain the remaining items the same color. We had them stain and finish each piece for us as I was concerned that I wouldn’t do such a good job as the ‘experts’ We have been delighted with the set.

At a later date we chose a bookshelf and TV cabinet with shaped glass doors. There were so many designs to chose from it was almost overwhelming but we found just what we wanted in the end. The price was pretty reasonable – comparable to Ashley Furniture, but paying for them to be stained was an extra expense. We were still very pleased to have solid custom furniture at an affordable price. One of the doors of the TV cabinet has since slipped a little in its hinges but I think that on the whole, the furniture will last well and probably outlive us.

I liked the personal attention we received at the Woodshed and the unhurried advice from the staff. They seemed to empathize with my indecision and were very helpful. Our children were happy going to the store because they have a lego table and dolls house for kids to play with. Customer care is important here. One negative point is that they don’t deliver. They do know a ‘man with a van’ who apparently provides a reliable service for a fee but we chose instead to borrow a truck and carefully transport it ourselves. Luckily it arrived undamaged and now has pride of place in our home.

If you are looking for wooden furniture in Tyler Texas I would definitely check out the Woodshed. They do have some beautiful things and it is great to be able to customize items to suit your existing home décor.

Rega of Paris

Rega of Paris

6722 S Broadway
Tyler TX
75703
903 561 1705
www.regaofparis.com

Rega of Paris is a furniture consignment store in South Tyler (in the shopping area opposite Target and behind Don’s)
I first visited there when we moved here and we needed basic furniture to fill our house but I still go there occasionally now as it is such a great place to shop and you can find all sorts of nice quality and unique items for the home there.

Rega is a more upscale consignment store and has antiques as well as good quality furniture. They also consign smaller items like crockery, art work and bits and pieces for the home.

The owners will manage estate sales for you and will pick up (and deliver) items you buy or consign for a small fee. Sellers get just 50% of the selling price but as Rega is a popular shop the chance that your item will hang around unsold for long is pretty unlikely – so you will get your money fast.

The inventory changes regularly at Rega as there seems to be a fast turnover of goods. They even have a website where you can view the new arrivals and this is updated fairly frequently.

I am not usually a fan of second hand furniture stores (it fills me with visions of old folk and the smell of cat pee!) but Rega is very different. They only take the nicest pieces of furniture in good clean condition. Having had a few bad experiences with cheap furniture I now think it is better to buy something of better quality and style second hand than risk having something that falls apart after a year or so.

Rega of Paris is open Tuesday thru Saturday 10am – 5.30pm

Tyler TX Furniture Stores

December 18th, 2009

When shopping for furniture in Tyler one of the biggest pet peeves me and my brother agree on is how annoying it is when the furniture sales person hovers over your shoulder while touring the store. It is that furniture establishments store and so they can have their sales people do whatever they want but it is a sales philosophy I really cannot stand. I won’t go into great detail which store I absolutely hate the most that does this but if you are reading this and would like to make a comment I would be glad to accept local Tyler peoples criticism.

Swann’s

I visited almost every furniture store in Tyler trying to find a good office desk. The best desks I found were at Swann’s but the desks were also astronomically priced. I could not justify spending $4,000 – $5,000 on an office desk when that would cover almost a year of mortgage payments. Who in their right mind would pay that much for an office desk? Why do I ask this question when there seem to be a million homes in Tyler worth over $300,000. Obviously there are plenty of doctors and lawyers in Tyler that can afford desks like this but I am not one of them.

Furniture Row

My next stop was Furniture Row. This furniture store had some good selections on couches and accessory tables and furniture at good prices but not a good selection of office desks that appealed to me. The office desks were okay and priced decent but nothing that I wanted to take home. Overall my impression with Furniture Row is that they are not overly aggressive in hovering over you while you look at furniture. I was not becoming increasingly stressed the longer I was in the store as I felt at a more higher priced establishment.

Lazy Boy

I went into Lazy Boy Furniture Studio and did not see a wide selection of office desks but they did have some well built recliner chairs and some nice looking couches. Lazy Boy has some good prices and some prices on certain things that are a bit out of my budget. I did pick up a nice trendy looking leather recliner chair while at Lazy Boy that I still enjoy to this day. Lazy Boy was not a great help for finding an office desk but their sales staff was not pushy and I got a great leather recliner.

Ivan Smith Furniture

Ivan Smith furniture has your typical selection of couches and recliners I saw at several other stores like when shopping at Lacks. Ivan Smith downtown had too many darker colored chairs and too many leather selections for my taste. When visiting Ivan Smith in South West Tyler I found a better selection of lighter colored furniture and a bigger overall selection of pretty much every type of furniture you might need for a house. I ended up buying a TV stand that was discounted by 75% which was an amazing deal. Ivan’s prices were good but I could not find a couch or chair that interested me there. I was impressed with the sales staff as I did not fill overly pressured when talking to the sales lady. Ivan’s selections are good I am just picky and they didn’t have exactly what I wanted.

Lacks Furniture

Lacks furniture had some very good recliner chairs over by their TV’s and some unique longer cloth fabric couches I had not seen at other furniture stores in Tyler TX. I decided to buy a light green couch from Lack’s and have been very pleased with it. The sales lady at Lack’s was very friendly and easy to work with. I did not feel pressured by her although we were followed around it was not overbearing. When we needed time to ourselves the Lack’s sales professional keyed in on this and backed away to give us time to look around and decide what we wanted to do. My overall experience at Lack’s was a good one and I appreciated the help from the sales lady. The prices at Lack’s are very good on some items although some of their nicer stuff could be out of some peoples price range.

Cheapest Furniture Store in Tyler

After comparing some of these popular furniture stores in Tyler it seemed to me that Furniture Row had some of the cheapest furniture prices. Every furniture store had good prices on certain items and I would encourage everyone to price shop and ask for cheaper prices than what you see on the sticker. If you have to I would leave the store and come back on a sales day if the sales person will not budge on the price.

Feel free to leave a customer review about furniture stores in Tyler that you like or don’t like to help shoppers find the best place to buy their furniture.
