NetFlix

February 9th, 2011

Netflix moviesNetFlix is a great way to watch the most movies from your home, and they keep making their business more convenient. For a while you had to wait for the mail to come in to get to watch a new movie. You would pre-choose your top movies that you would want to watch and make your list on the NetFlix website. They then send you one movie at a time starting with your first choice. They still use this old way of doing things, but they have added even more simple ways to watch movies from home. They first started the ability to instantly watch movies through their website. They give you many options of tons of movies to watch. Last year NetFlix came out with the technology to watch movies over your Wii or Playstation. They use to send you a disc to plan on your console but now you can now download a NetFlix application right to your game console. You can then scroll through the many different categories, such as; children and family, foreign, horror, television shows, drama, and romantic comedy. You can put any movies on your instant queue to watch whenever you want. You can also watch your instant queue through your computer. You can rate the shows and movies that you like and NetFlix will suggest movies to you that are like the movies that you liked the most. Do not expect that movies that have just been released to be on instant NetFlix, you can get all new releases through the mail though.

NetFlix has a very affordable monthly fee. You can get new releases through the mail and instant through your computer or your game console for only nine dollars a month. Although not all television shows or movies are on the instant NetFlix, there is such a large selection of movies that you are sure to find something that you are in the mood for. You do not have to leave your house to watch a movie, and there are no late fees for any movies through the mail. NetFlix is the most affordable and convenient way to rent movies.

Hastings Video Store in Tyler

Hastings

4015 S Broadway Ave
Tyler, TX 75701-8727

Hastings parking lot maybe an awesome hang out for the East Texas teenagers, but I think that there are more people in the parking lot than in the store. The store does have a great variety of books, movies, music, and video games. This store is probably the dirtiest store in East Texas. I feel like I have to take a bath after renting a movie. The well known store may be struggling to stay in business.

As I try to find the door through the clouds of smoke from the teenagers hanging out side the door, I already know that I really want to get a movie and leave as fast as you can. You can dig through the towers in the aisle to find cheap movies to buy. “Buy two get the third for a penny.” They have great deals for movies on sale and as the world of electronics grows to the newest level; Hastings is starting to sale and rent movies on Blue Ray.

Hastings lack of convenience may be the thing that puts them out of business. Although you can shop online for movies and music and much more, you have to return to the store. The great thing about the competing rental companies, such as Red Box and Netflix, is that they are convenient to your every day life.

The odd and, many times, unhelpful people that work at Hastings add to the frustration of the shopping experience. The oddly disturbing action figures and adult board games makes me rush out the store with my hands over my eyes.

Although you can find most music, movies and books, I would look everywhere in Tyler before I endure the torture of shopping in Hastings. The good thing about the store is that they buy those old movies and CDs that have been sitting on your shelf just collecting dust and taking up space.

Hastings is my “last stop store”; if I can not find a movie I have been wanting to watch for months in Red Box, or the dollar rental machine at Brookshires, or if it is not at the other failing rental store, Blockbuster, I go to Hastings, then I go home and take a bath until I can not smell the stink of the store in my hair.

Blockbuster Tyler TX

January 18th, 2010

Movie lovers this is the place for you to be if you are addicted like I am to watching all kinds of movies. This Blockbuster I am writing about is located off of Rt 31 next to Taco Bell.

New releases are kinda of pricey I think, but for quite sometime older movies you can rent for just $1 per night.

Blockbuster Tyler TX Loop 323 and 31

Blockbuster Loop 323 and 31

Sometimes buying movies there is lower than what you would pay to see a regular movie at a theater. While you are picking your favorite movie to watch you can also buy a snack to enjoy, like popcorn, all kinds of candy, chocolate and soft drinks. A big gum ball machine is also inside the store.

One of the best things is no late fees. Some competition has arrived for them with the stores having a Red Box machine going for $1 per show. Most people are probably going there to rent way cheaper. I hope Blockbuster will come down on their prices some day…on the new releases. Still a great place to go and rent once in awhile.

Hastings

January 8th, 2010

The stereotypically flickering fluorescent lights, the green and off white walls worn down in places that are inexplicably nowhere near any sort of regular physical contact, the pathetic, but diverse for this part of Texas, music collection. Yes, if you’ve been to Hastings in Tyler and didn’t subconsciously block the experience from your memory already you will recognize the picture I’m painting for you. As one of the only places in Tyler you can get dirty, dirty porno magazines and almost every Tool album, you can be sure that Hastings is attracting just enough disgusting rednecks to keep it’s vital signs moving.

Now I don’t want to be too hard on them, I mean on occasion they do have a blue ray copy of Labyrinth that no one else has. How am I supposed to role play with David Bowie without the power of gentle blue ocean birds? But as we all have come to learn, staying just above the level of tolerance in any venture, life or business, is a sure fire way to leave you trapped in east Texas evangelical hell forever… or in a dying and vulnerable business. This attitude will poison your entire business, for example, if employees are paid exactly minimum wage until the government forces you to pay them more, then you shouldn’t wonder why they aren’t mopping the walls or neon lights, those aren’t even things you should mop, but God knows you demand it of them.

Look Hastings, it’s not too late to redeem yourself. I realize I was a little critical of your appearance earlier and that I essentially called you redneck bait. But it could all go away with the help of just one person; one simple hiring of someone with a decent taste in music and movies, or even a current taste in music and movies would be the completely obvious initiative needed to keep you afloat a little longer. Like meth to your white trash excuse for an entertainment business. Try the teenagers they seem pretty hip.

Hastings experience

January 2nd, 2010

With the many advancements in east Texas it still baffles me how a store like Hastings can stay in business. Hastings (in case you don’t know) is a multimedia store, that hosts a large selection of music, videos, books and more. Though the selection is worthy of recognition, the prices alone make me want to venture to the local walmart for my purchase and still be able to buy lunch on the way home with the money I saved.

Hastings has video renting with their very own membership card, but with redbox and netflix and for those who have still not caught up, Blockbuster, the idea of having video renting is almost irrelevant. They have a good book selection, but like the rest of the store is very overpriced. They also have a large music section which contains a great many ridiculous items such as ozzy posters and strobe lights at, you guessed it, ridiculous prices. The new movies they have for sale are pricey and the used movies are priced around the same.

On my way to the register with my Kiss dolls and Misfit monopoly in my shopping cart, I stop by and grab a movie to rent. As I wait in line I grabbed a packaged pickle and a container of popcorn to properly enjoy my movie watching experience. After my purchase I stop by to use their facilities and am shocked to find one of the vilest restrooms outside of truck stops in Mexico, that I had ever seen. I noticed on the wall there is the ‘bathroom cleanliness board’ with every hour up to and including the hour of my visit, checked and initialed.

Although my experience is not necessarily what you will encounter, it is something to watch for if you are planning on shopping there. With the advancements in video rentals and mp3 players Hastings is on the verge of becoming obsolete, but if you must have a new cd or movie I would suggest Walmart or Best Buy.
