In Two Weeks I Have Eaten at Rib Masters Twice

July 28th, 2010

Rib Masters in Whitehouse TX
For those who don’t know about Rib Masters in Whitehouse you have got to try this place out.

They are not hurting for business but every restaurant appreciates the avid fan telling everyone about their favorite place.

If you want some really fantastic ribs try them out. They are in Whitehouse on 110 on the right before you get to Brookshires.

Please comment with your opinion about Rib Masters. I expect you will also find them to be extremely good.

P.S. Don’t go there and get something besides ribs. Why do you think they call themselves “Rib Masters”?

Purple Pig in Noonday TX near Tyler

June 15th, 2010

image1240930164.jpgThe Purple Pig in Flint TX is one of my favorite bar-bq restaurants in the Tyler area.

What I usually get here is their chopped beef barbecue sandwich. My brother gets their pulled pork sandwich.

They have a large variety of sides and I like their barbeque rice and mac n cheese.

They have a very good weekend music venue outside by the Indian teepee.

It is definitely a restaurant in Tyler worth checking out.

Rudy’s Bar-B-Q

January 18th, 2010

Rudy’s “Country Store” and Bar-B-Q was placed in operation in 1989. It was a store first them, became a food place. Barbecue lovers this is the place for you to enjoy one of the best BBQ places in Tyler. Inside it’s very country looking and inviting. Menu is amazing, all kinds of brisket, turkey breast, pork loin, chopped beef. Pork spare ribs and everybody loves some Baby back ribs, half chicken, regular chicken, jalapeno sausages and this is just the meat, so far. Hungry yet….OK I will keep going…potato salad, pinto beans, green bean salad, cream corn, new potatoes, corn on the cob, green chili stew and jumbo smokes potato.

Never leave out the desserts….banana pudding, pecan pie, chocolate pudding, butter milk pie, ice cream, peach cobbler and rice crispy treats. This is making me hungry all over again. I had a loaded baked potato with cheese, sour cream and pulled pork on top of it. Yes, it was delicious. Outside the store they also have gas station available just in case you are running low or want to fill up while you are there. They sell soft drinks and beer to go with your meal, depending on what you prefer.

After your meal, they have some stuff you can purchase in their store. The store is located on 1410 SSW Loop 323, Tyler, Texas. Some of the other locations are in Waco, Frisco and Houston, Texas just to name a few. They have many other locations which you could easily find on their website. They carry gift cards in their store. It is a great place to go and eat a good lunch and it’s very close to our Hollywood theater. Once you are done eating you could drop in and watch the movie you were looking for.

Rudy’s place burned a few years ago and it took them quite a while to build the kitchen area back to be even better than it was in the beginning. They made a bigger dining area and redid the kitchen to accommodate an even bigger crowd. More people go there than before the fire, it is worth the visit.

Sacred Spur Ranch – A rustic authentic Cowboy ranch restaurant.

January 17th, 2010

Barbecue GrillWe went to Sacred Spur Ranch on Friday with relatives in town from Canada to give them a Texas experience. Sacred Spur is unlike anything you may have encountered such as a Texas Roadhouse experience. This place is like a barn in the middle of a real Ranch.

Call for reservations: 903-295-4364
Address:
117 Michel Rd
Gladewater, TX 75647

When we walked in we were greeted with live entertainment. The singer was singing some very good country western music. For a Friday the place was about a quarter of the way full.

The steaks are cooked on a gigantic homemade grill made out of a lot of welded metal. The grill on top of the fire hangs from a chain and seems to do a good job. Sacred Spur Ranch

I ordered the Ribeye steak because they were out of T-Bones and it came with a baked potato. The steak and potato were very good. I was sitting next to the metal barn wall so I started to get a little cold in there. As you can see this was an authentic barn ranch style experience. If you are wanting cookie cutter Texas Roadhouse than this is not it.

Sacred Spur Ranch is only open Friday and Saturday’s and is located in East Mountain, population 500. It will take you close to 45 minutes to an hour to get here. Plan on making this an all evening event and prepare for authentic, rustic or whatever you want to call it.

Texas Cuisine At A Tyler Landmark

January 8th, 2010

When visiting a new city, one of my favorite things to do is try local restaurants that serve dishes native to the area. And as someone who has lived and traveled outside my home state, I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to seek out a lot of hole in the wall places where locals congregate. This has often led me to think about our own Texan specialties. What are they, and where would I send an out of towner to sample them?

When most people think of Texas cuisine, the first thing that comes to mind is of course barbeque. One of our best, locally owned barbeque sources in Tyler Texas is Stanley’s. Located at 525 South Beckham, Stanley’s is about sixty years old, making it one of the oldest restaurants in Tyler. They serve outstanding Texas fare that has gained statewide recognition. The signature dish is a sandwich called “The Brother-in-law,” it’s packed with chopped beef, hot links and cheese. They also serve the usual forms of sliced or chopped beef brisket, pulled pork, chicken and ribs. The brisket is cooked for at least sixteen hours. Stanley’s also has an outdoor deck where they occasionally feature live music. They also offer catering services.

So the next time you have out of town guests who want to experience genuine Texas flavor and culture, consider this family owned and operated Tyler landmark instead of the usual chains. The food is outstanding and the atmosphere authentic. Located across from Trinity Mother Francis Hospital. Also see http://www.stanleyspitbbq.com
