Red Lobster is a popular seafood restaurant in Tyler Texas and apparently someone very passionate about Seafood recently emailed us because we had a Red Lobster category without Red Lobsters website and profile listed in it. We have updated this category to show the location of Red Lobster. Thank you, Wayne, with letting us know we need to update our seafood category of our directory. This is a locally owned directory primarily to assist new and old businesses in getting noticed on the net. Not all categories are updated since this directory is owned and operated by one person. We need more people like Wayne letting us know if a category needs a business we are not aware of to make this a useful resource. We do have Red Lobster listed just under a different category. Red Lobster is a popular seafood franchise and is located in Tyler Texas next to Brookshires grocery warehouse. Many people go on and on about how good Red Lobsters biscuits are and I have to agree. I enjoy their live lobster, but have not been that impressed with their appetizer and entree recipes. Other seafood restaurants in Tyler are Breakers, Shogun of Japan, Clear Springs, Villa Montez, and Bernards. My favorite is Villa Montez. Their sea bass is exceptional.

“Like living on Fifth Avenue” is how Texas Governor R. B. Hubbard described the Tyler neighborhood of West Houston at Vine. It was on this corner that the Bonner-Whitaker-McClendon house was built in Ca. 1878. Judge M. H. Bonner, a Texas State Supreme Court justice, bought a parcel of land from the estate of his former law partner, Texas’ first governor, 1. Pinckney Henderson. When Bonner’s eldest daughter, Mattie, married attorney Harrison Whitaker, the newlyweds were gifted two acres on which they built their home in 1878. The Whitakers shopped in New York for their fire mantles, light fixtures, wall paper and furniture. They selected an East Lake Bracketed architectural design for construction of their two story, nine room home. The house became a center point for Tyler society as the Whitakers presided over dinners and parties, all celebrated in grand Victorian style. Sadly, Mattie suffered an untimely death and five years later, Harrison remarried and moved Beaumont with his children and new wife.

In certain areas in East Texas there is only one electric company available and there is no choice. Big Sandy is an example of an East Texas city that has only one electric provider. Cherokee County Coop is the electric coop in some East Texas towns and if they are the energy company in your city then you have no choice in picking a provider. For awhile Cherokee County Electric had much cheaper electricity prices then electric companies selling energy in the deregulated areas of Texas. Recent comments from their customers now say that Cherokee raises their rates during the course of a contract and it becomes a hassle to call them and negotiate the rate back down. We called them to see what their current electric rate was at. They have a 11 cents per kWh as of today although 2 months ago it was around 11.5 cents a kWh. In comparison we called one of the cheapest electric providers in Texas with a positive rating score from the PUCT and found that a cheap rate in the deregulated areas of Texas is going for 10.3 cents a kWh (April 7 2009) (and that includes all charges). The difference is that Cherokee County Electric Co-op's rate is a variable rate and the 10.3 cent rate is a fixed rate. Unfortunately Cherokee can raise your electricity price on you if fuel prices go up. Cherokee does not offer a fixed electricity price.

Shogun of Japan is one of the only Sushi Restaurants in Tyler Texas and offers very good sushi selections as well as a Hibachi style table where the chef will make your food right in front of you. They have steaks, seafood, lobster and a variety of Sushi. Our family loves this restaurant and we come here on special occasions.
