Super Bowl Party

February 5th, 2011

People across the country are preparing for one of the most popular parties of the year, the Super Bowl party. If you are throwing a Super Bowl party in East Texas this weekend, you really only need two things, good food, and a big screen television.

I highly doubt people are looking to buy a brand new television just a few days before the Super Bowl, but if you are looking to get a new television set there are a lot of places that are having big sales. When it comes to technology it seems that if you wait a year after the product comes out there will be something new and you can save a huge percentage of the cost of the original product you wanted. Most television companies are starting to move their technology towards doing more 3D television and extremely thin televisions. If you walk through Wal-Mart stores you will see flat screen televisions for a third less than they were last year. Wal-Mart has great prices on their televisions but the employees that work there do not really know what the best deal is. If you want a great staff to recommend the best television for the big game I recommend that you go to Don’s TV & Appliances or to Best Buy.

Now that you have your television ready, is it time to start with the food. This is one of the times of the year that junk food is expected. The most popular foods at a Super Bowl party are the barbeque chicken wings, chips and cheese dip, and fruit and vegetable trays. If you have no desire to cook for your party, there are great places that will provide your party with the necessary food.Aaron Rodgers Superbowl 45

Most places will do catering, but the most popular restaurant during Super Bowl has to be Wing Stop. It is amazing how many wings are sold on Super Bowl Sunday. But who does not love Wing Stop? They have the best flavors no matter what flavor you prefer. I am not a big fan of spicy flavors, because I get the worse heart burn, so I love the Hawaiian wings and the lemon-pepper wings. Wing Stop has great flavors that come as regular chicken wings, boneless Wings, and chicken strips.

If you are up for the challenge of cooking for the hungry crowd, you probably have been into the grocery stores and seen the many displays of junk food advertising the Super Bowl. But instead of just throwing a few barbeque wings on the grill, why not do a Super Bowl theme? I know it shows you as being cheesy but really when it comes to food how can you go wrong?

In this year’s Super Bowl the Green Bay Packers will be battling against the Pittsburgh Steelers. If you have seen one Green Bay game, you know the food that they are known for, cheese! Wisconsin likes to be known for their cheese, so why not do a bunch of trays of Wisconsin Cheese? Trying to figure out what to do for the Steelers was tricky until I found out that Pennsylvania is know to be the snack capital of the world.

It was the first place to introduce pretzels to the United States. The state of Pennsylvania is known for the Hershey Company and many more chocolate companies. Have fun with different cheeses, chocolates, and many other snack foods as you watch these teams fight to be the 2011 Super Bowl winners.

WalMart Confusion

August 2nd, 2010

When I walk into Tyler’s Wal-Mart, on the corner of the Loop and highway 64, I am greeted by a group of strange men just hanging out by the entrance. I get sick of these groups of guys that shout at woman to get their numbers. I can not believe girls would actually give these guys their numbers.

As I walk through the dirty store that always seems like the floor is sticky, I get run into a bunch of little kids running through the store with no parents in sight. I get frustrated and walk down to get a tube of toothpaste. As I grab a tube of tooth paste, a shirt is stuffed behind it. I go to get a few groceries and grab something to eat at the Deli.

Some woman sell barbeque chicken chunks with flies flying all around. Some chicken falls on the greasy dirty counter and they just grabbed it up and threw it back in the container with all the other food. I was really grossed out and decided not to eat there. There is a McDonalds connected to this Wal-Mart. I don’t think I would ever eat there.

It always looks really dirty and really greasy. This Wal-Mart is known to be very dangerous and be very careful if you go there, especially at night, when really strange people can not find a better place to hang out at 11:00 at night.

It seems like some of the most stuck up people drive around the Wal-Mart off of Broadway. I always get cut off while walking into the store. One time a car was waiting for me to load my bags of groceries into the car put my two babies into the car seats and buckle them in and put my cart away, just so they could get my spot.

I was trying to hurry to be nice and they kept honking and when I looked up at the driver I noticed that they were signaling for me to hurry up. Excuse me? They should just go find another place. Oh, and by the way, please do not park in the pregnancy parking unless you are pregnant.

So I hate going there because of all the rude people that shop there. But there isn’t any other Wal-Mart that is so convenient. I can just go right across the street to Target, or stay in the same parking lot and enjoy a great burger at Whataburger. The store inside is a lot cleaner than the Wal-Mart I formally talked of, but it always is so crowded.

Every time I go to check out it seems like they have about twenty lanes and maybe five are open. So there will be at least ten people in front of you with their baskets over flowing with stuff. So Wal-Mart, open a few more check-outs, will you?

My very favorite Wal-Mart in Tyler is the newest one on Troop Highway. It is the furthest for me but I think it is worth the drive. It is the largest Wal-Mart in Tyler and always the most orderly. The food always seems so much cleaner and even the people are nicer. The parking lot is larger so people can find their own parking space and don’t have to be so rude to park.

They have great furniture for babies. It is easy to register here because everything so organized compared to the other ones. The people are nicer because they don’t feel cramped into and over crowded store with rude strangers. The greeter is even nicer. Which I think greeters are so funny. What a great job. They are called “greeters” but honestly,  how often do they really greet you. Its like security. Security from all those strange pathetic people that shop lift. But that is off the point I am trying to make.

Troop Wal-Mart greeters actually tell people hello. But I don’t think they deal with as much shop lifting as the Wal-Mart off of highway 64. There is always police there. So if you need to go to Wal-Mart go to Troop, even if it is out of the way. They always seem to have more lanes open so it takes a lot less time to come in and get out.

I’m not the biggest fan of Wal-Mart, not like I use to be. But it is the one stop for all your needs and the prices are amazing. I can ever leave the store with out first checking out the five dollar movie rack, or the three dollar sales in the baby clothes section. Wal-Mart has a policy that they will not be under sold, so you are sure to find what you need or want at a  great price.

You will find everything for every room in your house and for your car. If you need a new bed spread or a new rug, if you need new furniture or television, you will always find it at Wal-Mart. Keep your eyes open for the seasonal selection at great prices and when it starts to becomes out of season look for amazing sales.

Have fun shopping with your kids in their toys section, I always have to take a walk down the pink aisle just to see what is new and what is on sale. So shop Wal-Mart to find off-brand and brand names at a great price, “always”.

That Old White And Orange

January 8th, 2010

It all started with one man’s dream, a dream of forcing people to praise his hamburgers by merely mentioning his restaurant. Maybe it was the constant subliminal verification of his burgers deliciousness, or maybe it was the five inch diameter, but whatever the reason something brought people back to Harmon Dobson’s burger stand. Now nearly sixty years later, Whataburger is still selling its monstrous burgers and is still under the Dobson name. Even the employees of Mr. Dobson’s legacy are referred to as family members, giving the restaurant just a touch of a cult atmosphere that will leave you curious and willing to accept their fast food answers.

A self proclaimed Texas treasure, Whataburger can be counted on twenty four seven for your burger, chicken or cinnamon roll needs. The prices may have changed from the twenty five cent burgers first sold in 1950 but the menu, has actually changed quite a bit as well. The iconic white and orange A-frames beckon to your inner glutton with a menu that could feed a small African nation. Whataburger will show you the meaning of delicious and excessive variety with their carte du jour which spans from taquito’s to pancakes, not to mention the standard and not so standard burger options. And occasionally if you’re lucky you may stumble into one of their themed locations in Tyler Texas, adorned with anything from un-blinking taxidermy of mythical animals to fifties icons caged in plexi glass.

But decorations aside, the food speaks for itself. Rarely does a restaurant come along that truly relates to all varieties of taste, from the Barbeque chicken burger for individuals with a bit of a sweet tooth to the mustard, onion, and pickle Justaburger for people who were apparently born with no sense of taste. But in the end we can all depend on Whataburger for more food than you could or should possibly eat.
