Jewelery Stores in Tyler Texas

Murphey the Jeweler

diamond ring stores in Tyler Texas

I have shopped for jewelery at James Avery, Sam’s wholesale club and a place in San Antonio called Americus Diamonds but have yet to buy something from a local Tyler jewelery store like Jim’s Jewelers and Murphey the Jeweler.

There are 6 important “C’s” to consider when purchasing a diamond ring.

Tip: When shopping around write down the specs for the type of ring your interested in from atleast 3 – 4 diamond ring stores in Tyler. Take down information on the cut, carat, clarity, color, certification and of course cost.

Chances are some of the Tyler Jewelery sales people will see your dilegence in writing down information and will lower their ring prices as you leave the store. Take down the new price and visit a few more jewelery stores in Tyler.

Below are some trusted jewelery stores in Tyler Texas although I have yet to build any satisfying trust in these stores to give me a confident buying experience.

For the guys out there looking for quality yet affordable engagement rings more advertising should be centered around value for the buck spent on diamond rings and jewelery.

Below are some diamond ring stores in the Tyler Texas area.

My wife and I recently returned to Tyler to celebrate our ninth wedding anniversary. We were fortunate enough to spend two nights in the beautiful, new Courtyard Marriott Hotel. We did have a little trouble getting in at first. My parents are part owners of a Courtyard Marriott and so they get a special discount which they are able to pass on to family and friends. Well, the hotel was having a bit of a hard time verifying all of our info so we had to call and have a new fax sent to them etc. Anyway, that was the only difficulty we had during our stay. The rest was great.

The whole hotel is really nicely decorated. Their is a small restaurant and coffee bar in the lobby of the hotel. They have a pool, hot tub, and exercise room. The TV lover in your family will adore this place. They have a big, plasma screen TV next to all the elevators so you don’t have to miss a minute of TV.
We did have one problem with the TV in our room. It wouldn’t turn on. At first I thought that the batteries in the remote control were dead. But I called the front desk and learned the true cause of the problem. Apparently people like to swivel the TV and this loosens the power cord in the back. I finally found the one she was talking about and we were in business.

My wife and I thought our room was really beautiful and classy. We had a king-size bed and nice little fold out couch. The wardrobe, desk etc. are stained a nice dark red like cherry wood. The paintings, bedding etc. were all really tasteful.
The room also has a mini-fridge in it if you need to keep some food cold like we did.

We had a lot of fun one afternoon swimming with our three boys in the pool. It’s a pretty small pool but it was great for them because they are still learning to swim and there weren’t any really deep parts. Also, we were the only people in the pool, so we had the run of the place. Another thing I really like about the pool room is that there is a bathroom with a shower right in it. That means you don’t have to pee in the pool. It also means that you can change your clothes before and after and take a shower there if you want.

The Courtyard Marriott is conveniently located across from a big movie theater and nearby several great restaurants such as Bernard’s and Fish City Grill.
If you have the money to spend, or if you can get a good discount like us, I think the Courtyard Marriott is one of the nicest places to stay in Tyler. I would definitely like to stay there again on our next visit to Tyler.

AT&T Cell Phone Service in Tyler Texas

September 10th, 2010

AT&T Cell Phone Company

Website: www.att.com

6004 S Broadway, Suite 100, Tyler – (903) 561-9393

5393 S Broadway Ave, Tyler – (903) 324-1117

4601 South Broadway Avenue, Tyler – (903) 939-1808

We have been having so many problems communicating with AT&T. Our cell phone bills in Tyler Texas have been higher than they should be. We decided that we should go up to the store and talk to them about lowering our bill. When we had gone up to the store we had explained that we are thinking about cancelling one of your phones. After we had expressed that the bills were more expensive than we had originally agreed on, they told us that we only had to pay less than half of what was on the bill. They had also told us that we would be getting $150 back on our next bill.

When we got our next month’s bill it was twice as much as the month before, and it stated that we had not paid the month before. We have been having a lot of issues like this one. The issues started to happen when we got the package deal. We got internet, direct TV, and two cell phones on one bill. Although this deal saves some money, it is really stressful that AT&T keeps on messing up our bills. It is really frustrating that when we go to the store they tell us one thing but then when we get our bill in the mail it states something completely different.

When we bought our phones we had got them from the Tyler Wal-Mart. We went up to the Wal-Mart phone section and talked to the guy that worked for the electronics. We had told him that we wanted to cancel our phone. He told us that soon AT&T will not be offering the unlimited internet package and that if we decide to cancel or switch phones we will lose the unlimited internet. He explained to us that soon other companies that Tyler Wal-Mart sells phones for are soon going to offer unlimited internet, text messaging, and phone calls. Soon we will be moving our cell phone service over to this smart phone, because we are tired of having to talk to so many different confused people about the problems on our phone bills.

The Brewtones Galaxy in Tyler Texas

May 27th, 2010

The search for Tyler area activities to write about has led me to the part time coffee bar, part time church, known to patrons and parishioners respectively as the Brewtones Galaxy, or the Vineyard Church of Tyler. The Brewtones coffee shop has become a well known venue for local artists, musicians, modern-day beatniks, and twenty-somethings in general, to gather for a cup of Joe and an “unplugged” musical performance by area indie bands that are usually quietly Christian. The venue is not large but it provides a slightly bigger than intimate setting, for area young people to gather and take in various musical performances.

The primary mission of the café is to provide a place for local and out of town bands often on the cusp of real commercial success, to play to a somewhat more, but not exclusively religious crowd. The Vineyard Church has always had as part of its mission to reach out to younger, more under-churched people. Given this focus, the Brewtones Galaxy is a sort of natural partnership. Attendees are not likely to hear any kind of homily or gospel reading, but it is an opportunity to mix with other college aged youth in an environment they may or may not be otherwise interested in. Past performances have come from artists like Eisley, Sleeping at last, Jon Foreman (of Switchfoot fame) The Rocketboys, Christi Dupree and others. If most of the names are not immediately familiar that’s not surprising. But many area young people cooler than I would recognize these bands in short order.

On May twenty eight, the band entitled Moving Castles, (apparently a reference to the novel and film by the same name), will be performing at Brewtones in Tyler, in honor of the release of their new CD. The doors open at seven and admission is ten dollars a person. For more information see the Brewtones website at http://www.myspace.com/brewtones. They are located at 5201 S. Broadway Ave., in Tyler. For more on the band Moving Castles, visit http://movingcastles.com/. Cumberland Academy Public Charter School

CUMBERLAND ACADEMY

Cumberland Academy is a state funded charter school in South Tyler. It has been open for about 8 years in it’s current location – opposite the entrance to Academy Sports and just before Faulkner Park in Tyler.

This is a small, non-fee paying school serving kids from Kindergarten to 6th grade. It has a high teacher to student ratio compared to most other schools and a strict discipline policy. All students have to wear uniform. The academic achievements are high and each student has the chance to learn music and theater studies. The entrance is open to all families in the area and places are allocated by lottery – you put your child’s name down on a list and if you are lucky, then the children in your family are given a place or put on a waiting list.

The most interesting thing about Cumberland Academy is it’s future development as Tyler’s first ischool. What that means, in a nutshell, is that Cumberland is not just updating it’s teaching methods by using computers, but it is taking technology one step further. Each classroom will have a state of the art interactive teaching board and audio equipment so that the teacher can be easily heard throughout the room. Students will each have a computer to use at school and an ipod touch to take home for homework assignments. Traditional teaching methods for reading and writing will be employed too but the focus will definitely be on new technology in the classroom to prepare students for what is already becoming a computerized world. This technology has been made possible by grants.

In addition to the normal curriculum, the children will be able to specialize in the performing arts by taking an elective in violin, choir, drama or theater production skills.

Despite it’s new teaching methods, the school will still abide by the state standards and testing systems. It is not part of the Tyler Independent School District but is bound by the regulations of the Texas Education Agency.  Cumberland Academy is run by a board of governors and parent involvement is very much encouraged by volunteer hours in the school or by participation in the PTO.

The school is expanding to almost double it’s capacity this fall and will be located at a new site which is currently being purpose built at the junction of  Shiloh and Chad Drive in  Central Tyler.
