A Local Country Star

April 6th, 2010

Lindale is not much more than a quick stop for Interstate travelers. Beside I-20, and their new Wal-Mart Super Center, their pride lies in a 25 year old girl. As you drive towards the small, you can not help but notice Miranda Lambert face plastered on billboards welcoming you to her hometown. Lambert use to be just a home town girl with a big voice, but now people all across the country are singing along with her sitting in their car.

How can you really honor this singer with out having a “Miranda Lambert Store”? I do not think that you can. As you drive through the old country stores of downtown Lindale, you find the corner store dedicated to the town hero. What is more exciting than a store full of merchandise of a country star? You can buy anything that your heart desires; candles, shirts, and of course, music!

Why not decorate your home around your town’s very own country singer? Get information on her tours, and become a true country singer fan!

For 3 years now, a visit to Trail Creek Farm has been part of our Christmas tradition. Yes, you guessed it, Trail Creek is a Christmas tree farm!

When you arrive you jump on a hay ride to the tree field. You sit on hay bales on the wagons which are named after Santa’s reindeer. Some of them are covered in case it is cold or snowy (well you never know!) It’s fun. The helpers are good tractor drivers – I went the week my baby was due but the bumping still didn’t make me go into labor.

When you get to the field they arm you with a saw and it’s up to you to find the best tree. They are labeled in size and by price and are all shaped beautifully. It’s hard to agree on the best tree as there are 10 000 to chose from. They have Leyland Cypress and Virginia Pine trees. Everyone in our family seems to have an opinion so it takes us ages to pick the best one.

After cutting your special tree down, you load it onto the wagon and go back to the farm where they put it on a shaking platform to shake all the loose needles out of it. It is netted for you and they will even help you put it on the roof of your car for transport home.
Then it is time to relax. In the barn there is hot apple cider for all the family and popcorn – all complimentary and part of the experience. There are candles and Christmas decorations for sale, plus that all important magic stuff to keep your tree fresh in water. The kids can play in the maze, visit the animals at the farm, plus follow a short nature trail in the woods.

A visit to Trail Creek is a whole afternoon experience – your family will love it.

Prices vary, depending on how ‘full’ the trees are – from $3 to $7 per foot. They stay fresh for ages, we have ours up for about 6 weeks.

NOTE: if you visit the website you can print a coupon which will give you10% off the price of your tree. Returning customers are rewarded with the same discount – each year they send us a postcard with their opening dates and times and a10% coupon on it.

Santa Land in Tyler Texas Actually Lindale

December 3rd, 2009

Santa Land

11518 Interstate 20 W
Tyler, TX 75706-4842
(903) 882-1518

Last year we went to Santa Land and I was not expecting much having never been to one of these outdoor Christmas Light trails. What I discovered is that this particular place went through a lot of trouble to put together a pretty spectacular lights show. There are some 2D moving aspects of the light show where a motorcycle jumps over a creek and other interesting things. The kids in the car really had a great time and for the most part everyone came away with a good experience. The Santa Land light show doesn’t end there as they also have a really big gift shop called Santa’s Wish Shop

You can buy handmade Christmas ornaments, jewelry, jams, candles, paintings, and other Christmas gifts. They open on November 1st and Santa will be there starting on Thanksgiving day up until Christmas but the light show goes all the way until January 4th.

Santa Land boasts over 2 million Christmas  lights to drive through. The cost is $25 per car or $35 per 15 passenger van and you can have a trailer ride for $7 – $10 per person. The Santa Land location is opened from now until Christmas. .
