Mercado’s popular for out-of-towners

September 27th, 2012

It’s crazy to think of how popular Mercado’s restaurant in Tyler really is.

Often times, when I’m out of town and people here I’m from Tyler, one thing people have told me is they enjoy going to Mercado’s in Tyler. This happened to me when I lived in Houston and it happened just the other day, about an hour half away from Tyler. Anytime somebody comes from out of town, it’s common for the hosts to take their guests to Mercado’s.

People from Tyler and outside of Tyler have raved about it on Google’s reviews.

One customer says, “Just ate at Mercados, and it was amazing. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food was fantastic. The menu is not a bad price. Compared to all of the other Mexican places in Tyler this is the best one. I will never eat at another Mexican place.” Another one says, “The food is really good, the best I’ve tasted around Tyler Area. The chips and tortillas are the best and it’s always clean when I go in and that 1 to 2 times a week. Great Service also.” Finally, one other review says its “amazing.” I have been here numerous times, and can say this is one of the best Mexican restaurants ever. The fajitas are truly amazing, as well as the enchiladas. Great tortillas, and sopaphilas!”

If you’re a big fan of Mexican food and live in Tyler, you’re obviously familiar with Mercado’s to one extent or another. If you’re from out of town and you’re looking for a good Tex-Mex restaurant, why not consider Mercado’s amongst the many other Tex-Mex places in Tyler?

Don Juan Mexican

July 29th, 2011

Eating mexican food for lunch again at Don Juan's in Tyler TX

Tyler is over populated with Mexican “whole in the wall” restaurants and fancy high dinning Mexican restaurants, and all the restaurants in between. Tyler has two Don Juan restaurants, both brings the spicy tastes of Mexico to Tyler. Don Juan welcomes you into the neon colors of the Mexican culture.

Don Juan’s restaurant not only introduces Tyler to the Hispanic culture through neon colors and greasy food, but also through their odd decorative taste. Maybe it is just me, but I can not enjoy my food and company while hanging on the wall next to me is a large picture of a woman with facial hair and a uni-brow.

The uncomfortable chairs may make the restaurant look more colorful, but after a few minutes of sitting there my back begins to give out and I can not sit comfortably.

Although the art is ugly, the chairs are uncomfortable, and the neon colors begin to blind you as you walk through the door, the food is great! Don Juan’s is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in Tyler. Although when you pick up your food you do have to be careful of the dripping grease. And if you have a sensitive stomach you better know where the bathroom is before you sit down to eat.

The thing I like about Mexican restaurants is the chips and salsa. The thing I hate is that they wait to bring out your food just long enough for you to get full off the chips.

There are not many more refreshing drinks than the cantaloupe juice at Don Juan’s. The fresh drinks remind me of the days that I have traveled down to Mexico. So if you really want the Hispanic experience, I think Don Juan’s restaurant is the best in town.

Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches

February 9th, 2011

Jimmy Johns Tyler TexasJimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches has opened a restaurant off of Troop in Tyler. I have seen this restaurant for a while but I have finally had the opportunity to eat there. The set up of the restaurant is very unique with the sarcastic signs, modern style, and open kitchen. I would always laugh when I drove by and saw the neon sign that read “Free Smells”, but when you walked in the store you knew right away what they are talking about. The great smells of freshly cook bread is the first thing that greets you as you walk into the restaurant. The kitchen is open and the sandwiches that you order are prepared right in front of you so that you are ensured that your sandwiches are made fresh. The menu is all the great inventions of Jimmy John himself, with the exception of a few friends and family. All of the sandwiches have different selections of fresh bread, meats, cheeses, sauces, and vegetables.

Jimmy John’s slogan “no shirts, no shoes, no problem; we deliver.” is a great way to express the convenience of their delivery services. They can cater to any size party, including sandwich trays or large subs, chips, drinks, cookies, and even pickle spears. The food is made fresh and delivered to your door or business. You can make orders online or by calling into the store.

Jimmy John’s restaurant has a great menu of tasty and fresh sandwiches. The great atmosphere and polite service makes the restaurant a great place to catch up with friends, go on a lunch date, or have a lunch business meeting. Jimmy John’s restaurant is a new kind of deli here in East Texas, and with the open kitchen you can see and taste the freshness of their sandwiches.

Save-A-Lot Grocery Store

February 3rd, 2010

Save-A-Lot

2305 West Erwin Street
Tyler, TX 75702-6736
(903) 592-1592

Save-A-Lot Grocery Store is located at 2305 W Erwin St., Tyler, Texas 75702. This grocery store saves you money by limiting the overhead on their groceries.

Any time I want to stock up on canned goods, I go to Save-A-Lot and buy the canned goods by the case. The brands are not Del Monte, but they are excellent quality brands that taste good to us, plus the cans are about half the price that other stores charge for similar canned goods. The products are left in the case and stacked up, but you don’t have to buy a case, you can buy the number of cans you wish.

The store is pretty clean and arranged to be convenient to shop. In addition to canned goods, they carry milk, eggs, butter, some ice cream, cream cheese and cheese. They have a variety of meat and prepackaged lunch meat. They carry fresh fruit and vegetables, that are good quality at a reasonable price.

Save-A-Lot carries the cheaper brands of soda, chips, crackers, cookies and snack items at a fraction of the cost at other stores. If you aren’t a brand name person and want good quality items at cheaper prices, you should go check the items and prices at Save-A-Lot.
