Breakers Seafood in Tyler has good crunchy tacos

December 30th, 2010

Breakers: A Seafood Joint 5106 Old Bullard Road Tyler, TX. 75701 www.breakerstyler.com Hours: Monday thru Friday 11:00am till 10:00pm Saturday 12:00pm till 10:00pm Sunday 12:00pm till 9:00pm

The inside of Breakers is nice. It looks a bit like a surf shop with all those surf boards hanging on the walls. The menu is pretty small. It’s mostly seafood, of course, with a few obligatory additions like steak and burgers.

We started out with an appetizer. I wanted to get the avocado fries but my wife overruled me and ordered the Golden Fried Calamari Rings. The calamari rings cost $7.95 and came with marinara dipping sauce. They tasted alright but I hate that rubbery texture. Oh well, what else can you expect from calamari.

I was torn between getting the fish and chips or the Breakers angus burger. But finally I decided on something else altogether. I got Fried Seafood Sampler which is supposed to come with clam strips, deep fried shrimp, and fish with your choice of French fries, sweet potato fries, or kettle chips for $12.95. For some reason, however, they were out of clam strips so I just asked for more fish instead. They also let me get a mix of French fries and sweet potato fries.

My wife chose the Atlantic Salmon (it also costs $12.95). It comes grilled or broiled with lemon caper butter and served with golden potatoes or rice pilaf and the vegetable of the day.

After we place our order we waited and waited and waited. My wife was starving and about to weep from hunger but finally the food came. Her grilled salmon was excellent just really late. We heard later they were one short on the floor and one short in the kitchen. My food was good but not exceptional. Breakers is a decent seafood joint but I don’t think it’s better than most. We probably won’t go back anytime soon.

Legends Burgers in Bullard Texas

September 10th, 2010

We ate lunch today at Legends Burgers and I thought it was delicious.

Unlike many burger places in Tyler they offer cheddar cheese in addition to the standard American cheese on their burgers.

They also use Blue Bell ice-cream in their ice-cream shakes rather than cheap soft serve junk you get at Jucy’s and many other places in town.

Their fries and burgers are both really good and the meat is high quality. Some burger shops in Tyler settle with nasty freezer burned Cisco foods hamburger meat but at Legends their meat patties taste like premium ground beef.

Overall I left very satisfied with their food although my brother felt that they had too much salt on their French fries.

Smash Burger in Tyler Texas

July 6th, 2010

In Tyler there are not very many good burger joints. I was in search for the best burger. My search was not long once I had eaten at Smash Burger. I am not a big burger eater, but once I took my first bit of Smash Burger’s BBQ bacon and cheese burger, a new love of ground beef came to me.

The prices are some what high but I think that it is worth it. Personally I would rather pay the extra money to eat a burger that is enjoyable than to buy off a dollar menu and feel my body shutting down due to the fake meat. Smash burger gives you a choice between 1/3 pound and ½ pound burger. The 1/3 pound filled me up perfectly fine.

If you are not a burger eater and are to stubborn to try the best burger in town, than they have Smash chicken! Most of the toppings that you can get on the burgers; you can get on the chicken sandwich. If you are a picky eater you can create your own burger or chicken sandwich. You can choose your own buns, cheese, sauce (or dressing), or topping.

If you eat at Smash Burger do not be surprised if your diet is broken or if you use up all of your Weight Watcher’s points on one meal. Smash burger has answers for you, try their Smash Salads! Each salad is thrown with apple wood smoked bacon, cheddar cheese (or blue cheese crumbles), chicken breast, and dressing.

If you are an odd person and nothing has gotten your mouth to water. You can always try a Smash dog. You can choose between three different hot dogs, Classic dog, Chicago dog, or Chili Cheese dog. Each hot dog is made with 100% Angus Beef, and served on a lightly toasted poppy seed bun.

Your children can enjoy a kid’s meal, they can choice either a burger, hot dog, chicken strips, or grilled cheese. All kids meals are served with fries and a drink (either soft drink or milk).

Usually burger joints have the usually sides, like fries. Smash Burger steps out side the box with their side. You can have a choice between two different types of French fries (or Smash fries). Smash fries are tossed in rosemary, olive oil and garlic. They have great onions strings, Haystack onions, fried pickles, beefy chili, veggie frites (fried asparagus spears, carrot sticks, and green beans), or my personal favorite, sweet potato smash fries.

For dessert try one of the four different milk shakes or malts. You can have a choice of vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, or lime. You can have a refreshing Root Beer float in a frosted mug. Get a cold soft drink with your meal, or a beer or you can try a glass of wine (house red or house white).

Smash Burger is a great place to hang out with your friends, although right now it has become a very popular place in Tyler and it is hard to get a table inside of the Tyler Texas restaurant. You can relax out in the sun while sitting on the patio. Enjoy your food at Smash Burger and you can get what you really want.

Wing Stop on the West Loop

June 20th, 2010

image1444672917.jpgWing Stop has become the place we pick up quick delicious food for family get togethers and events.

Let’s face it sometimes you’re too lazy to even throw a hot dog or chicken wing on the grill.

Let Wing Stop do some deep frying for you instead.

I like their hawian, lemon pepper, mild, and garlic parmesian flavored wings.

The vegi sticks help justify the bindge as you dunk them into ranch dip.

Their French fries are some of the best in town.

Eat here in their store or take it to go. They are good with in store and take out.

They have no trash cabs in the store and you end up using a lot of towels to clean your face and hands.

Simply throw the wadded towels on the floor and concentrate on eating these delicious wings.

There are two Wing Stop locations in Tyler, one by Albertsons on the loop and one on the West loop near hwy 64 and Wal Mart in Tyler.
