Let’s Cook was a Really Fun Date Night

December 22nd, 2011

I decided to schedule a date night for my wife and I at a new business in town called, “Let’s Cook”.

We had no idea what to expect but ended up having a really fun time. What I liked most about it was the ability to meet new people combined with getting to relate to my wife while cooking food together.

Everyone I know including myself likes going to the movies but you don’t get to communicate with your wife this way. Let’s Cook gives you many chances to laugh and experience many new things together with the one you love.

Unfortunately for many of us guys a romantic gesture that will please the wife doesn’t always come easy. I am one of these guys but I do get it right sometimes. Don’t fall for those diamond ring radio commercials for your last minute Christmas gift idea but go by Let’s Cook and schedule a date with your wife for their next date night class.

You will learn to cook some delicious recipes and will be surprised how easy it is. They will have some prepared food before the lesson you can eat but don’t eat too much as you will make plenty of food together to fill you up for the night. On our night we made several courses including dessert.

In summary, I was most surprised by the passion and charm added by the Italian chef for that night. His name is Al Ippolito and he is a chef, college professor, business owner, and has an extensive career resume. If you have Al as your chef you will not just learn how to cook but will get a great education on Italian culture and life coming from the son of two Italian immigrants from New York City.

Kilgore’s Oil Museum

October 22nd, 2010
Kilgore Oil Museum

Kilgore Oil Museum

The Oil Museum in Kilgore Texas is a reminder of how East Texas became known and how the people of East Texas were able to endure The Great Depression by the discovery of “black gold”. The museum recreates the way people lived during the discovery of the largest discovery of oil in the United States. The museum is located on the campus of Kilgore College.

As you walk into the museum you are lead into the first doom shaped room that portrays some history of the oil fields. The Oil Museum brings you back in time by showing you some treasures from the 1930’s. The museum has a display of old furniture, 1930 cars, antique jewelry, and old radios. As you walk into the final room you are sent back into time as you walk through an old town. Walk through old restaurants, grocery stores, jails, and post offices. They display how the roads were affected by the oil boom, with cars, people, and animals sinking in the black mud. Not very much has changed through all the years that I have visited the museum. They have a small theater that shows the same short movie that was played when I was young. The movie shows the life styles of the people and the changes that happened after the founding of the oil in Kilgore and even has some real footage. Your little children will love the fun “elevator” ride. Take a trip under ground through the different levels of earth and rock. Fun puppets will put on a show to educate children of the different levels of rocks, and how people get oil out of the ground. As you are leaving you can visit the gift shop to get a shirt, candy, or a small gift to remember the fun time you had at the museum.

People travel to visit the Oil Museum. It is a fun place to bring your family and learn an important history of Kilgore, Texas. Although the museum has not changed very much, it does not really need to change. It is a great place to bring an elementary class. The Oil Museum is very fun and educational.

Plantation Pines Christmas Tree Farm

There are a few Christmas tree farms in Tyler TX to choose from and even some tents set up at different locations in Tyler with Oregon furs but there is nothing better than going to the Wiggins Christmas tree farm near Lindale and New Harmony. The Wiggins Christmas tree farm is called Plantation Pines Christmas tree farmChristmas Tree Farm in Tyler They have a very good gift shop full of interesting gifts for the Christmas holidays and they have a wide variety of Christmas trees to choose from. You can go on a hay ride, cut your own tree down, have them cut it down, or get a precut fur tree. You can get a flocked tree or your standard Christmas tree without the fake snow. Whatever you are wanting you will find it at Plantation Pines.

The Plantation Pines Christmas tree farm is owned by the president of the Christmas tree association of Texas. Our family knows the wiggins family and have nothing but good things to say about them. This year they donated Christmas trees to the Texas capital building for the Christmas season.

They usually have hot cocoa and hot cider available near the gift shop. They sell the stands to hold up your tree and we still have ours from last year. Instead of going to those tents on the side of the road why not go to Plantation Pines and find a tree still in the ground? Your family will have a fun time and you will do something a little different instead of just the same old thing every year.
