Super Cuts in Tyler

August 10th, 2010

While you are shopping at a strip mall many times you will run into a Super Cuts. I do not really like the idea of getting my hair cut from a franchise with stores in over 2,100 locations in the United States, United Kingdom, and Puerto Rico. I think that hair is really important and I like to know who is going to be doing my hair. If you are going to get your hair done at Super Cuts you could have a different person doing your hair every time you go.

Although all of the stylist are licensed to cut and style hair, when you go to get your hair done there, the thing that is missing is the personal relationship. I like being reassured when I go into the store that I will be able to leave with the hair cut that I want, and it is not very reassuring when you do not know who is going to be working that day.

Super Cuts in Tyler Texas does cut hair for kids, women, and men. The stylist know the newest hair style and the most fashionable looks. One of the hardest things is probably cutting little kids hair and trying to keep them sitting still. Of what I have seen the stylist at Super Cuts has done a good job at cutting little children’s hair quickly and even.

When you are getting your hair cut at a place that walk-ins are welcomed and reservations are not needed the stylist try to do your hair quickly and move on to the next costumer. I know that most of the stylist can really cut great hair, but the biggest problem with me is that I do not think that the stylist take the proper amount of time and care for your hair, but that is probably the reason that the price of the hair cut is half as much as if you when to a private stylist.

Tyler, Texas Weight Watchers for weight loss

July 21st, 2010

Weight Watchers in Tyler TX
The Weight Watchers program for weight loss is a weight management program that simplifies calorie counting by assigning a point value to every food.  Members are assessed upon joining the program to determine what their maximum daily point intakes should be.

Members are required to attend regular meetings for weigh-ins as well as to discuss with others what their progress is.  People can find a great support structure at these meetings and learn tips, share challenges, and form friendships.

In Tyler, Texas there is 1 local group and 32 other groups in the surrounding areas, so finding a group convenient for you should not be difficult.  Weight Watchers recently added online meetings to their website if you are unable to attend group meetings; however going to face to face groups will give you a more personal support group.

Having someone to be accountable to as well as to encourage you when you face difficulties can make all the difference in the world on your weight loss journey.

Weight Watchers is not designed to be a temporary diet, but more of a new lifestyle approach.  When you have reached your goal for weight loss you can decide if you want to continue attending meetings or not, but should keep the same attitude toward food regardless in order to maintain your new weight.

Additional points are allowed for different exercises and Weight Watchers encourages members to adopt a healthy fitness routine.  Visit the Weight Watchers website to find a group in Tyler, Texas.

Wired Zip- Line Challenge Course in Canton TX

July 19th, 2010

A couple of weeks ago I wrote an article on NY- TX Zip Line Adventures, east of Athens. Well I just discovered that there is yet another such business in our area. Wired Zip- Line Challenge Course is located in Canton Texas, and is billed as the tallest and longest zip- line course in the state. Of the two courses that I’ve investigated, Wired seems the most developed. Their elaborately and sturdily built steel towers are something to see in and of themselves! And a couple of the towers are linked by heavy wooden suspension bridges. The total length of all the courses combined is around 3500 feet in length. Their wires courses and structures exceed the international standards established by the Association of Challenge Course Technology (ACCT). (I’ve never heard of it either, but evidently this is the organization that certifies these sorts of adventure courses).

Of course safety is the highest concern to Wired’s well trained staff. They take visitors through a short list of dos and don’ts, and give a short lesson on how to safely enjoy the experience. And there are guides present at every stage of the tour. At fifty five dollars a person Wired is slightly more affordable than NY- TX. Presumably there is some kind of group rate, but even for individuals they appear to offer a larger experience than their competitors. As of this summer Wired has increased its hours and are now open from Thursday through Sunday. It is recommended that visitors make reservations, particularly for groups, but walk ins are welcome.

Admittedly I have yet to visit Wired, but based on the pics available on their site, the place looks really cool! The activity sounds surprisingly accessible. People of all ages have tried zip- lining from the age of ten and up. According to the site, the staff will assess the visitor’s physical condition at the time of the visit, but short of obesity or some other glaring physical issue, most people should safely qualify to participate.  Wired Zip- Line Challenge has been reviewed by the likes of Tylerites.com and Examiner.com and was recently chosen as an Editor’s Choice by Canopy Tours. As with NY- TX Zip- Line Adventures, I recommend visiting their website at http://www.ziptheusa.com/. To make reservations by phone, call Wired’s office at (903)567-2681. Lastly, check out my previous article also located on this site. Just look for the title: Tyler Area Zip- Lines.

Frozen CUSTARD? It had to be worth a try!
I stopped at Andy’s in Tyler with my kids and we each tried a ‘concrete’ which is basically your choice of topping blended into the frozen custard. The result – a taste sensation! Yes it was a bit like ice-cream but much smoother and creamier. I could taste the fresh ingredients and not artificial flavorings. Delicious!

We each chose something very different – my son had pineapple and raspberries blended into his custom concrete and I had Butter Pecan. My daughter is the chocolate addict of the family and had a chocolate cone which was huge for a child.
As we guzzled this piece of edible heaven I started thinking. ‘Frozen custard. Sounds good for you, well… maybe?’ I asked the server whether this had less calories than ice-cream – thinking this could be too good to be true. He exchanged looks with his fellow server and shook his head sadly. It was too good to be true… But for an occasional treat, this is definitely a must.

Not only do they serve concretes, cones and sundaes with all sorts of toppings but they can also make milkshakes and ‘malts’ to your order too. They have both fresh fruit mix-ins and chocolate bar pieces too plus irresistible hot fudge. You can have as many toppings as you want to pay for!
One piece of advice though, pick up a take-out menu in advance, as the list of toppings and mix-ins is so extensive that your companions might get fed up waiting for you to make up your mind what you want (or is that just my family?!)

If you want to make a visit to Andy’s a seasonal experience there are also specials to tempt you throughout the year like strawberry shortcake, pumpkin pie and candy cane flavors.

One note of warning. We went to Andy’s in the heat of summer. I was surprised at how generous the server was with the napkins …until I saw the brown mess all over my daughter’s face. Custard melts much quicker than ice-cream. Solution – eat it fast, you know you want to anyway!

Andy’s has basic outside seating and a drive-thru and you can buy it in quarts to take home too. And we’re lucky to have it here in Tyler – it’s the only franchise in Texas.
