Resolution of the Suddenlink, Viacom Dispute

January 2nd, 2011

Well the New Year’s weekend came and went, and my son is even now lying in my bed watching his favorite Upside Down Show episodes on Nick Jr. as he drifts off to sleep (hopefully). As a quick side note to Viacom’s confidence, there was a show you should have continued to make. With all the sounds effects and high energy, it actually seems to appeal more to little boys rather than little girls. It’s less about the little ones finding ways to express their emotions and more about playing, making noise and generally having fun. It’s kind of a nice change of programming for the dad of a child who’s all boy!

Putting the review aside for now however, when Saturday morning rolled around and I still had all my cable channels, I assumed that some kind of agreement had been reached between Suddenlink and Viacom, or shortly would be. I wouldn’t have to wait long for confirmation of my suspicions. The cable company sent out an e-mail to subscribers on Saturday afternoon explaining that they had “reached an agreement in principle on a long-term contract.” Obviously the details of the terms were not listed in the e-mail, but they did announce that Viacom’s new on demand, on line movie service would be available to Suddenlink customers, as well as the existing networks customers have come to expect. To their credit, Suddenlink cable also promised that there would not be changes to the promised rate adjustments. Instead the cable provider will simply eat the added cost for their standard services. The recent communication did not stipulate how long the company would be willing to take that hit but I would presume that at some point they will have to raise their rates. For the time being at least, it sounds like they will remain the same. Furthermore, Suddenlink customers will have the option of whether or not to opt out of Viacom’s new movies on demand service.

At the end of day I am glad the companies were able to hash out an agreement, even though I think Viacom’s methods don’t serve the public’s interest. I realize they’re not running a non- profit organization, but I find that the company’s lack of concern for customer satisfaction speaks rather loudly. All that aside, at least we will still have access to Nick Jr. and syndicated episodes of Everybody Loves Raymond.

The Childrens Place

October 25th, 2010

Even with all the crowds, all of the annoying salesmen, and all the weird smells, the mall is worth going to when you have small children for only a couple stores, one being, The Children’s Place. I love to go to The Children’s Place just about anytime of the year.

They are always setting the newest trends in the children’s fashion world. For some reason it seems that when girls get to be around six or seven it is hard to find cute appropriate clothes. The thing I love about The Children’s Place is that their clothing for older girls is very cute, colorful, and modest.

Here you can actually find dresses and skirts for your daughter that is at least to her knees, that se will be happy to wear.

I wish that The Children’s Place did registrations. I would have registered there with each one of my pregnancies. The baby and toddler clothing selection is some of my favorite clothes that I can find anywhere. Most of the times that I go to The Children’s place I usually walk out with at least something for my daughters.

Not only does The Children’s Place have cute clothes for little girls, but they have a great selection for little boys. I love the little Polo shirts that are for toddler boys. They have all colors and sizes. Here you can find cute jeans for both boys and girls of all ages, for a great price.

The Children’s Place is definitely the best addition that has come to the Broadway Square mall. I really love this store. You can shop there for any season of holiday that is coming up. You can get your children outfits for Easter, Christmas, or even fun Halloween costumes.

Target Tyler Texas

September 20th, 2010

For a while I have been wishing that Tyler would get a Target Super Center. Though there have been many rumors of one being built, it has not happened. Tyler does however have a Target store. Although I can only buy a few groceries there, like snacks, frozen pizzas, and drinks, Target has become one of my favorite stores to shop, especially if there is a sale going on.

There are many reasons I love to shop at Target, one being the home décor. I highly recommend that people doing their wedding registry at Target. The home décor is always in fashion, and has beautiful lamps, frames, and art work. It has almost everything that you would need for your bathroom, bedroom, living room, and kitchen. I love to see the seasonal dishes and kitchen accessories.

Target has some my favorite selection of clothing around. Little kid’s, women’s and men’s clothes are affordable and always the newest fashion. As fall is arriving you can find great deals on all of target’s summer clothing. As my daughter starts to take ballet classes I had to find the right shoes and outfits for her to wear. These things can get pretty expensive. I have been to a few different places in Tyler looking for the right outfits and slippers, and then I went to Target and found what I was looking for, for a low price. Target has the cutest clothes for young girls. Sometimes it is hard to find age appropriate clothes when you are shopping for little girls. It seems like a lot of stores’ girl’s clothing section are mini shirts, Hannah Montana shirts, and mini bikinis. I do not understand why people try to dress their little girls like they are grown up. I prefer that my kids to dress like young children as long as they can. Target has a great selection of age appropriate outfits. They also sell cute outfits for all different holidays depending on the time of the year. Years past I have gotten flower girls dresses, Easter dresses, and Christmas dresses from Target.

The Women’s clothing at Target has a great selection for women of all sizes and styles. You can top off your great style with fun hats and accessories that are always in fashion. You can get clothes for any season or occasion, such as bathing suits and breezy dresses for the hot summer days, and comfortable jeans, and even that beautiful black dress for date night. Sometimes shopping or maternity clothes can be frustrating because you know that you are only going to be wearing the clothes for nine months before they are going to be put in a box and shoved under the bed, or passed to a friend. The prices for maternity clothes are pretty high for the most part, and Target is not really any different. Target does have great sales though. Some of the maternity clothes can be on sale up to 75% off. All of the maternity clothes are very stylish and Target has the clothes that show off your baby bump, or hide it.

Although you can get most of your electronic needs, if you do not know what you are looking for I recommend that you go to Best Buy to get your questions answered. Target does have a lot of different video games and movies. If you are going to buy something that is behind the glass, be prepared to wait for a while, because it always takes forever for them to find the keys and unlock the door. It gets pretty frustrating having to ask a few different people to help you and they tell you they are going to get the keys and do not come back (this has happened to me more than once at Target).

Target has the most recent toys for your kids. They have aisles of Dora the Explorer, Princesses, and all the newest action figures. For your young children they have all First Steps, and Leap Frog toys. Your children are never too young to learn, and the colorful and educational toys are a great way to start.

Target is my favorite place to shop in Tyler. I have done all my baby registries and wedding registry there. You can get anything there from toilet paper and paper towels to suit cases and camping gear. Although I do like the Target that is in Tyler, Tyler really does need a target super Center so that there really is a one stop store and I can get everything I need.

A Little Behind

August 2nd, 2010

Anyone with small children will tell you that one of the most frustrating things is how fast little kids grow. It seems like you buy a pair of pants and your kids wear them once and by the time they got through the laundry cycle and out of the dryer they are to small for your kids. By the time your kids are three years old, you have a giant pile of clothes, instead of just throwing them out, why not make a few buck off of them?

A Little Behind is a resale store in Tyler. Most clothing is used or hand made. The idea or buying used clothing may not be appealing to everyone, but here the used clothes are in great condition and extremely organized. I was able to buy two pairs of jeans and a beautiful summer dress for a lower price that I usually spend on one pair of pants.

They had a small selection of maternity clothes, but that is not their main selling point. Most of the products in the store are toys, furniture, and clothing for small children. They have great sales such as half off a huge selection of clothing and they have had sales that were half off cribs and other furniture.

The walls are lined with hand made clothing and hair products for little girls. I love the hair bows that you can find there. There is a large selection of bright colored ribbons, and giant clothe flowers. One of the most expensive things you can find in the store is the “pillow case dresses”. All of the pillow case dresses are hand made and each has its own unique look and style.

When you are either shopping or selling, you want to shop or work with honest and polite people. When I walked into the store for the first time I was greeted by the owner of the store who was working the counter. She was extremely helpful and gave her honest opinion on the products that she was selling, and even pointed out glitches in a table and chairs a lady was interested. I find it very comforting to know that I am getting great products for little money.

I hate going into a resale store when there are clothes unorganized and mixed up, and I have to dig through clothing to find a pair of jeans without a hole in the knee, or I have to think about how to get the spit up stain off an outfit. I did not have to worry about that here. All the clothes were in style and clean. It was easy to find the size of clothes that I needed because everything was extremely organized.

When shopping at A Little Behind you are sure to get great clothes at unbelievable prices, and your shopping experience will not be stressful or overwhelming. A Little Behind is my favored resale store to buy clothes for my little kids.

Cinderbella’s Boutique

Tyler Texas Children's Clothing at Cinderbella's

Cinderbella's

3400 S Broadway Ave
Tyler Texas 75701

hours: Mon-Sat 10 am – 5:30

This shop opened last year and is a delight to many a parent who loves to dress their little one in nice cute things but doesn’t always have the funds to buy them new.

This well laid out and spacious shop has an area in the back for good quality, gently used consigned goods and the rest of the store contains new items. Although this consignment store is fairly large already they will be moving into a much large facility close to where Lifeway Christian Bookstore used to be in the same shopping strip. This will give them much more room to offer many more children’s clothes they would like to have available for sale.

Many of the new items are hand made or have motifs which can be made to order. There are bows here too – just in case you are the sort of Mom who likes to have matching accessories for their child.

The thing that struck me immediately as I walked in the door was that this is a boutique for little girls. Sure there are items for boys too but this is the place for very girly girls!

It is a perfect place for grandmothers to buy cutsie outfits for their beloved little ones and a great place to buy that non essential but oh-so-lovely outfit or accessory for a friend who is expecting their first little girl. As I browsed, I could almost hear the exclamations of friends at a baby shower as gifts were unwrapped!

The thing that caught my eye, as a more practical person, was the shoes. Here you can buy new shoes which are excellent quality and really individual. The leather was so soft, I’m sure they would be perfect for little feet. There was a half price sale when I was shopping too so it didn’t seemed too expensive.

In the rear of the store are the consigned goods. These are definitely upscale too.

They are nicely arranged in size and gender so you can look through them without hassle.

The impression I got from this store was attention to detail. Not just in the type of clothes for sale but in the way everything was presented. The lady at the checkout was really helpful and I’m sure she loves what she does, which makes the whole shopping experience at Cinderbella’s a really nice one.
