Weight Loss In Tyler

December 10th, 2010

It is that time of year again, it may be the Thanksgiving turkey or the Christmas ham but weight loss is on most everyone’s mind. Tyler has many great places that help people loss weight and lead a healthier life. Three great ways to loss weight is to first find a support group, eat healthier food, and to exercise.

Tyler has great support groups; one very popular support group is Weight Watchers. At Weight Watchers there are many great people that are in similar situations as you are. People are there to encourage you not only to loose weight, but to live a better life. They have many great books that help you eat the healthiest choice at all different restaurants and at your home. The Weight Watchers’ cook book has many great meal ideas. Some of the restaurants in Tyler, such as Applebee’s, has a Weight Watcher’s approved section on the menu. Weight Watchers has many support meetings to encourage people to continue to eat healthy and to keep loosing weight that meet the goals you set for yourself.

Eating healthy can many times can seem to be the more expensive option. The soon to be health food store in Tyler, Fresh, will be an easy, convenient place o find all your health food needs. Tyler also has many granaries. At the Tyler granaries you can get many different vitamins, health drinks and organic foods. When you are buying organic foods, they may be the healthiest choice but they are the most expensive choice of food. When shopping at Wal-Mart and Brookshire’s grocery stores it is easy to find a large selection of food full of MSG and everything unhealthy. The healthiest way to grocery shop in stores like these is to only shop in the sections around the grocery section. This way you are missing the frozen foods that are loaded with preservatives. You are also missing the sodas and snack foods. When you are shopping for healthier chooses keep in mind that it is much healthier to make things from scratch than to buy something that is pre-cooked, packaged and frozen. This is a cheaper way to shop healthier, but when you shop organic at granaries and soon at Fresh, the results are fast and noticeable.

Finding a gym should not be a hard task if you live in Tyler. There are many different gyms that are at all different locations in Tyler. CBS 19 in Tyler Texas

July 2nd, 2010

If you have ever watched news on the East Texas local television station, you know Gillian Sheridan. Though there are many rumors of her department from ABC’s news station, she now dwells at CBS’s news station KYTX. I don’t really care why she left channel seven, and I think that channel 19 doesn’t care either since their ratings have gone up since she moved over.

She claims on commercials that CBS cares more. I mean they even have a program called CBS19 Cares. They advertise for all different opportunities to give back to the community and different programs to help the people of East Texas live happier and healthier lives.

They advertise for events for people recovering from death in the family to people trying to loose weight. It is a great way to see if there are events or groups that can be encouraging to you no matter what you are going through. It is also a great opportunity for the people of east Texas to get involved and help others out.

CBS claims to be the “eye of East Texas”. I think who ever came up with this slogan saw The Lord of the Rings a few to many times. Though this can be taken in a pretty creepy way, I guess that they mean they offer breaking news fast. In that sense, yes they do.

While the tragic burning of the churches of East Texas was happening earlier this year, I watched CBS every night to keep up with what was going on. I am very grateful to the police department that finally arrested the young boys that burning them down, due to the fact that the church I grew up in is now not much more than a pile of ashes.

I was able to know what exactly was happening to the boys while they were on trial. CBS allowed me to get accurate information that I really was interested in.

CBS news has done some weird things to get viewers, like have a ditzy blonde read the news and made a reality show about it. Which really upset me because the reality show portrayed Tyler to be dirty and the people to be not more than a bunch of hicks.

Finally they are getting more viewers thanks to the fact that CBS cares, or maybe because of a new member to the news anchor team.

As we begin to see this year quickly fly by, it gives us less time to actually start our New Year resolutions. Wanting to loose weight is the biggest New Year Resolution. What better way is there to loose weight than to do an exercise that you enjoy?

At the end of the Industrial Revolution, the social conditions became extremely unhealthy in London England. In response to this crisis the Young Men’s Christian Association opened on June 6, 1844. George Williams was 23 when he and a group of men organized Bible studies and prayer groups for men to substitute living life on the street. The idea of the YMCA quickly spread through out Great Britain. In 1851 the first YMCA came to Montreal. The YMCA crossed lines in the separation of social classes. George Williams was knighted by Queen Victoria, and was buried under St. Paul’s Cathedral among other national heroes. The YMCA has been around through the hardest times throughout the world. Many leaders of the YMCA were awarded for the great changes that they have made in the community.

The YMCA has been a big part of the growth of our nation. During the Civil War most of the members were at war, so the YMCA started a program that housed soldiers and delivered food and Bibles to the soldiers. During World War I, John Mott, a YMCA leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner, involved the Y in running military canteens. The Y led fundraising campaigns and also took on war relief for both refugees and prisoners. During the Great Depression the YMCA opened its doors for the poor and many of its volunteers and leaders housed, fed and clothed the poor. During World War II the YMCAs around the world along with the National Council of the YMCA began to assist prisoners and soldiers in 36 nations around the world.

Most of the history of the sports world came from the YMCA. Volleyball was invented at Holyoke YMCA in 1895. Racquetball was invented in 1950 at the YMCA Greenwich. Softball was given its name by Walter Hakanson of the Denver YMCA in 1926; prier to this softball was called sissy ball or kitten ball. Even professional football began at the YMCA. At the International YMCA Training School the president asked James Naismith to invent a new sport because he felt that football was to physical and dangerous. Naismith came up with the sport basketball. It only had thirteen rules one of which was “no contact allowed”.

Today the YMCA has classes to help people of all ages get into shape. They offer workout rooms and trainers to help you loose the most in each session. Water aerobics and swimming classes are offered for ages 3 months and older. The YMCA also offers Zumba classes. What is Zumba? It is a workout/dance class that will help you shed off pounds and you will leave feeling sexy, energetic and you will have had a fun time.

It is great to have a place for your children to be involved in sports, and to allow your children to meet new friends. They will have a great time and will learn the values of life through having a strong body and mind. They will learn a healthy way of life through the many different sports and opportunities that your children may not have else-where.

In Tyler the YMCA my need some help. One time I was standing in the gym watching a basketball game when a tile fell from the ceiling and landed two feet from me as the loud bang echoed through the building. The pool may need a little extra chlorine and the floor may need some sort stain remover, and the bathrooms need to be cleaned a few more times; but the price of a membership is cheap and they have great classes. You can find what is best for you and the YMCA helps

Sonic Fast Food Restaurant

February 15th, 2010

Sonic has several locations here in Tyler, Texas, but the one I am going to talk about is on the corner of Rt 64 W and Loop 323. It is directly across from the Super center Wal Mart. Sonic is a fast food type of place, where you can go and order outside. The have carhops who deliver the order directly to your car.

They have a sandy beach area for volleyball and soccer where you can go play anytime with your friends. Good entertainment and completely free. You don’t have to play on the playground equipment or the sandy beach area, you can just sit and enjoy the weather outside, or get the meal and leave if you prefer. The food is good and if you get the items from the dollar menu, they are very reasonable. Their drink selections are even better than the food menu.

There are other locations at 5611 S Broadway Ave., Tyler ; 2501 W Gentry Parkway; or 3210 Troup Highway, Tyler, Texas. If you would like to find out more about Sonic you can go to their website or any of these locations.

Sonic seems to be quite the hang out place during the summer when people like to go hang out or just play. So Sonic is not the best nutritious place to go, but exciting. If you are trying to work out or loose weight, this is not the place you are looking for. On the other hand, they do have some items that are good for you. Once in awhile it’s ok to go eat food that is fried or high in fat. Their burgers are really good and sometimes they have the brown bag special, where you get two for the price of one. Always nice to pay less and get more for your money.

Sonic has some great tater tots with or without chilli, mozzarella sticks, corn dogs, chilli and fries, and so much more. Their blizzards are good or their slushy’s plus their flavored teas. If you want quick and tasty, Sonic is it. If you have not tried Sonic yet, then maybe its time.
