Taqueria el Lugar on the Square

July 17th, 2012

I love introducing new comers to surprisingly good eateries. Years ago, while I was living and teaching in St. Paul Minnesota, I returned home with some of my co-workers (including my administrator) for a Teacher’s conference. As any proud Tylerite in the know would, I took my fellow teachers to some of my favorite haunts, particularly Taqueria el Lugar. My boss was so impressed he delayed our return trip to St. Paul just long enough to get in one more visit to the “Best Mexican restaurant he’d ever experienced.”

For years I’ve enjoyed taking guests to Taqueria el Lugar, usually the Gentry location, and watched their reactions as we pulled up at the modest local and found some of the best genuine, Mexican food they’d ever had. Over the years the family owned business has expanded to numerous locals around the city.

Well, I took an out of town friend, to one of my all time favorite Tyler restaurants today. This visit was to the newest installment right down on the square. The location is ideal, and actually seems like it should have been open for years. I trust that the professionals who work on the square will keep the local legend open for many years.

Today’s visit wasn’t like the one I had years ago however. It’s not that the food wasn’t good. It’s still great, although I must agree with one of my friends who noted they went a little light on the cheese. But that may have been the particular day. The main difference is that the price has really gone up. I’m assuming that has something to do with the need to pay for the new locations. Of course, part of reason my experience was lessened may have been the height of my own expectations.

For a long time el Lugar has been a big part of my summer rituals. I capped off a lot days at the lake with cheap and delicious “number sevens.” Well Tyler has changed and so have my summers. I still plan on the occasional trip to el Lugar, but it will probably not be the staple of my diet that it used to be.

Obama’s Long Form Birth Certificate 2011

April 27th, 2011

Obama Long Form Birth Certificate from Hawaii, genuine

Wow! Finally the real genuine long form Obama birth certificate. This was released April 26 2011 from Hawaii.

Now we wait to hear conspiracies that the long form Obama birth certificate 2011 is a forgery. You know that whole debate is coming.

I am now waiting to see if Obama will say that this is indeed his birth certificate. Those who love chasing conspiracies will want to hear this. Once conspiracists hear this they will want even more information and so the cycle continues.

The current question being posed is: “Obama has provided us with another “Certificate of Live Birth” are people so stupid they don’t no what the difference between a “Birth Certificate” and a “Certificate of Live Birth”?”

The certificate shows his fathers race as African and his mothers race as white. The notion that the birth form would say that Obama’s race is “white” is not on the form anywhere so this theory about wanting to hide this is false as well as the theory of him not being a natural born citizen. The document does list his father as African. If his father is not American I do not believe Obama qualifies but I assume this only refers to his fathers race.

Another point of considerations is that when using Adobe Illustrator and releasing layers/elements it shows the document was composed using a few layers. Here are two seperate layers of what the Whitehouse released. You may interpret it as you see fit.

Here is the Whitehouse.gov PDF version if you would like to try the Adobe Illustrator release layered elements technique: Whitehouse.gov full PDF file

It’s interesting that this was released at the same time the Jerome R. Corsi book, “Where’s Obama’s Birth Certificate” is number 1 on Amazon.com.

Snow in Tyler Texas again in 2011! We love snow here in Tyler

January 9th, 2011

Tyler Texas Snowing 2011We looked outside around 2:30 to snow fall. We began to think the forecast of snow in Tyler TX wasn’t going to happen but it did.

We are hoping for a lot more and for it to get colder. Once there is a nice big thick blanket of snow we are going to go find a good steep hill to sled down.

Last year we had an amazing snow fall in March I think which was really odd for Texas and had many people saying so well for Global Warming.

Now global warming is called Climate Change but that still requires us to look at some previous claims.

Climate change people now say that more snow in the winter also proves global warming but this is not what the claim was a few years back?

tyler tx snow 2011For more information on the other side of the Climate Change/Global Warming debate please follow CFACT on twitter @CFACT and visit their website at http://www.cfact.org/

Well anyway back off of politics I am very happy to see some snow and we will be playing in it all day after my son gets up from his nap.

Joe’s Promise

October 20th, 2010

It was a few years ago that we first started to eat at the small Italian restaurant in Tyler TX, Joe’s Italian Grill. We liked the pasta, pizzas, and prices. When I was in high school a big group of us went to Joe’s Italian Grill. One person from our group wanted to order a salad and asked if they had Thousand Island salad dressing, because they did not he asked to the manager, and the waitress said that Joe, himself, was there. He came out and talked to him.

When person told him that he would love to see Joe’s restaurant offer Thousand Island, and if they did he would recommend the restaurant and would give them a lot of his business. Joe promised him that the next time he came to the restaurant he would be able to order his salad the way he wanted it. People through out the restaurant cheered and clapped for the owner. A couple weeks passed and we revisited, when someone once again ordered a salad with Thousand Island, I was surprised that they did not offer the salad dressing.

Even months later, they did not offer the dressing. Having the salad dressing was not the issue in this situation. If an owner promises his costumers to their faces and shake their hands they should keep to their word. Because of the broken promise people did not return to the restaurant.

Recently Joe’s Italian Grill opened a second restaurant just across the road. I do not really understand how they have two restaurants since every time I have gone to the original one there was hardly anyone there. I do like the food at Joe’s grill. I like how you can make your table private by letting down a curtain to exclude you from the rest of the restaurant. The shrimp tortellini is one of Joe’s best dishes, and one of the best tortellini dishes I have ever had.

I do understand why people hold this strange grudge towards Joe’s Italian Grill. If you are not going to keep your promises than do not make a guarantee that you can not keep. I will keep eating there because of the great food and I never felt like they did wrong towards me.

American Patriots Bible

July 29th, 2010

This is a new King James Version Bible that also has some of our nations founding Christian principles and stories in it.

This Bible would be a good resource for those who would like to be caught up on principles rather than politics.

What Tyler Texas and the nation needs is a new love for solid Christian principles that made our nation one that values and protects individual liberties.

A Bible like this can help equip you to tell your friends, family, and the public why we must stand up and fight for the principles soldiers fought so hard for that we have today.
