Miranda Lambert Comes to Tyler

April 18th, 2011

Miranda Lambert - Kerosene Platinum Album

East Texans love finding connections to celebrity, particularly when it’s a local girl (or boy), makes good story. I don’t suppose we’re any different than anyone else in this respect. But for some reason it means a lot to us to see others from our area appreciated by those from the country at large. This is especially true when the celebrity in question, maintains their connection to their East Texas roots.

Of course I’m referring to Miranda Lambert. The Lindale native has made it huge on the national country music scene in recent years. One can hardly drive through her home town without seeing her face half a dozen times, (ok that’s an overstatement), not that I’m complaining mind you. Better her face then Earl Campbell’s. I mean no disrespect, Earl’s a much beloved legend, and great ambassador for Tyler, but if I had to choose which face I’d want adorning the billboards in my home town, well come on… The artist has had a long string of hits and successes, and is currently said to be working on her fourth album. Personally, I can take or leave her music, but I respect the connection that she maintains with her home town and East Texas in general.

Obviously I’m not offering this review simply to fill space on the page. It happens that Lambert will be returning to Texas on April thirtieth, for the “On the Square” event in Tyler. Ticket prices are fairly high but proceeds go to an animal shelter / pet health and protection charity called “MuttNation Foundation.”I’m not a big social activist, but I’m sure Lambert’s appearance will be a big success, and I hope both the musician and our area continue to benefit from their association. Tyler Cattle Barons Gala

June 1st, 2010

As the summer kicks off, the American Cancer Society (ACS), is kicking off its national gala season. All over the country this summer they will be holding balls, auctions and soirées to raise money for cancer research and education. Each community that holds an event picks a theme that reflects its local culture. There are luaus, crawfish boils and costume parties. Some events are formal, while others are more casual.

Every year, for twenty three years now, the ACS puts on the Tyler Cattle Barons Gala. The event has become a prestigious function in Tyler TX, one attended by much of the area glitterati. The evening’s agenda includes a silent auction, with merchandise donated by area businesses and individuals, and a concert. This year air conditioned tents will be available for those looking to duck out of the heat for a while. Previous year’s musical guests include some pretty impressive names, including Miranda Lambert, Randy Travis and Jack Ingram. This year’s musical guest is country music star Lee Ann Womack.  The Tyler Gala is the third largest of its type in Texas and is widely considered one of the best

The event will be held on June twelfth at the new Park of East Texas, also the future home of the East Texas State Fair. Tickets to the Gala are not cheap, although the proceeds go to a great cause. A pair of general admission tickets will run three hundred fifty dollars. For those who can afford them the barons couple tickets are six hundred and include early entrance to a reception with an open bar and food catered by Eddie Deen. Dress is said to include “Pearlsnap Shirts and Cowboy Boots.” For a more complete list of ticket prices, or to donate to the American Cancer Society visit the following webpage:  http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR/Gala/GalaFY10HighPlains?pg=entry&fr_id=24934. A Local Country Star

April 6th, 2010

Lindale is not much more than a quick stop for Interstate travelers. Beside I-20, and their new Wal-Mart Super Center, their pride lies in a 25 year old girl. As you drive towards the small, you can not help but notice Miranda Lambert face plastered on billboards welcoming you to her hometown. Lambert use to be just a home town girl with a big voice, but now people all across the country are singing along with her sitting in their car.

How can you really honor this singer with out having a “Miranda Lambert Store”? I do not think that you can. As you drive through the old country stores of downtown Lindale, you find the corner store dedicated to the town hero. What is more exciting than a store full of merchandise of a country star? You can buy anything that your heart desires; candles, shirts, and of course, music!

Why not decorate your home around your town’s very own country singer? Get information on her tours, and become a true country singer fan!
