Genghis Grill in Tyler Texas

September 16th, 2010

Tyler recently opened a Mongolian stir fry grill. The Genghis quickly became very popular. It has such a different spin on stir fry, that the restaurant is usually packed. The fact of the popularity of the restaurant was my first worry. The tables are so close together that it makes the dinning experience uncomfortable. I got pretty sick and tired of the guy next to accidentally sticking his back side in my face every time he tried to sit down.

Once everyone was seated and people stopped getting up, the experience was great. The waitress showed us how to make our bowls. You start with a metal bowl and walk through the buffet of meats vegetables. You can choose from the many different uncooked meats, such as steak, chicken, shrimp, and much more. You can pile as much as you can fit into your metal bowl. Choose from their many seasonings for your meat. Top off your meat with a selection of uncooked vegetables. At the end of the buffet you can try their great selection of sauces from sweet to spicy. Lastly you fill your small cup with a sauce that you have chosen.

When you are done putting together your bowl, you hand your uncooked meal to the chief who asks you if you want to have rice or noodles with your stir fry. The chiefs put on somewhat of a show while they are cooking your food. They start large fires in the middle of the grill and bang gongs. The restaurant gets really loud with yelling orders and gongs ringing. It is quite the entertaining to watch them cook your food.

The food was wonderful but really spicy. If you are worried about how the food you put together will taste, you can follow recipes that the chiefs provide. And for four more dollars you can get an endless bowl and keep going back for more. It is not really a very quiet atmosphere, and it is very crowded, but the food it great and the experience is fun.

Caffe Tazza in Tyler Texas

Caffe Tazza Coffee Shop

Caffé Tazza

4815 Old Bullard Road
Tyler, TX 75703-1214
(903) 581-6601

Tyler’s small Italian style café, Caffe Tazza, has caught the eye of many artists and musicians. The small café is a great place to grab a decent priced coffee beverage or a great pastry, or even a light meal.

Besides having the usually light sandwiches and coffee house drinks, Caffe Tazza allows local musicians and artists to show off their talents. The café holds shows for all different artist, painters, and photographers and all types of artists. It is great for Tyler to have place that local artists can be noticed for their talents. These shows are held Thursday nights from 5pm until 9pm.

The small coffee shop is a nice quiet atmosphere and as you walk into the café you feel relaxed. It is a great place to do work or homework, because you can focus and concentrate on your work. It is nice to have a place like this available for anyone.

Really the off putting thing about the café is the fact that the sandwiches that are served to you just sit behind glass. I don’t know how long they have been sitting there, but it is unappetizing to see the tuna salad sandwich sitting there and the bread getting soggy from the juices of the meat. The whole idea makes me turned off to the food.

Caffe Tazza in Tyler may be a great place to hang out, drink a hot cup of coffee, and to get in touch with the local art community, but I would not go there expecting a great meal, just a great time.

The Hidden Gate Tyler TX

January 4th, 2010

Tucked away in the middle of Tyler is the small antique shop and restaurant, Hidden Gate. Hidden Gate is known for its quiet atmosphere and homemade delicious food.

Two rooms packed full of antiques and beautiful tables. This would not be a problem for me, but when you have children it becomes pretty much impossible to enjoy yourself in a place like this. There are so many breakable items placed on the edge of shelves, and shelves so close to the tables, children can easily grab and break things.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner menus are available. Hidden gate also has catering for buffet entrees and “hors D’oeuvers”. Desserts are homemade and available. Try their pies, cobblers, cakes and cheesecakes.

Floral wreaths and floral arrangements are also for sale. Check out the website to see the beautiful arrangements on sale depending on the up coming holidays and events.

Enjoy an afternoon tea with your friends. When you come here the music is relaxing and soft so you can actually hear each other talk. There is a great selection of teas and desserts for those outings for your friends. Try the raspberry, peach, strawberry-lemon, or orange spice teas.

If you are hosting a party you can come to Hidden Gate’s Tyler Texas Restaurant and pick up a food tray. Party trays include, cheese trays, sandwich trays, fruit trays and relish trays and pies. Also if you are going on a picnic and don’t have time to pack a lunch, you can pick up a box lunch. You can choose between about five different sandwich and two different wraps. Also you can pick up a Breakfast box, with different homemade croissants sandwiches.

You can go gift shopping here. Hidden Gate sells all different home décor such as candles, platters, lamps, mirrors and so much more. Hidden Gate carries brand name items such as, Acscent Candles, Secret Garden, Time & Again, Crackling Wick, Lady Primrose, and Olio. You can also find jewelry, purses, scarves and much more. You can also use their helpful Lay-a-away plan to help you be able to pay for the perfect gift.

Enjoy a quiet stress free meal but be very careful not to break anything!

The Egg and I

January 4th, 2010

Egg and I breakfast in Tyler TX
I walked into the Egg and I Tyler TX Restaurant and was very impressed. The small restaurant only serves breakfast, brunch and lunch. The restaurant is scented with sweet smell hazelnut coffee and maple syrup. The waitresses greeted you with a friendly “hello” and they were extremely helpful when ordering.

We looked over the menu and we pleasantly surprised with the prices, and the wonderful selection of breakfast and lunch entrees. I looked through the large omelet selection. The menu had every type of omelet that you could imagine. Mushrooms, cheddar or Swiss cheese, beef ham or bacon, they all sounded so great. I ordered a cordon blue casserole. I was amazed in the great flavoring of the potatoes, chicken and ham mixed together toped with Swiss cheese and cheese sauce and finally topped off with their famous egg cooked to my liking.

If you are not an egg lover don’t fret, egg items are not the only things on the menu. If you are a sweet tooth and want something to ease that chocolate craving, you are in luck! Order the filling and truly homemade tasting chocolate chip pancake. Dig into the thick fluffy chocolate chip stuffed pancake topped off with chocolate sauce and served with maple syrup on the side.

Choose from their delicious coffees, or choose a juice or fountain drink.

The service was amazing. The waitresses and waiters were polite and were constanly refilling drinks and asking if there was anything else that we wanted. After we ordered our food, it took lease than ten minutes for our food to come out to our table.

They have another room that you can reserve for a party or meeting. It is very private and closed off from the rest off the restaurant. So call and reserve the private room today.

Enjoy great company, a quiet atmosphere, and great food at a wonderful price. Come to the Egg & I for a meeting, party or date.
