Jack Hanna visits Tyler

October 12th, 2010
Jack Hanna Tyler Texas

Jack Hanna Tyler Texas

I was very excited when I first heard that the celebrity animal trainer Jack Hanna was going to be visiting Tyler‘s Caldwell Zoo. On arriving to the zoo, I was overwhelmed by large crowd that showed up. I came with two small children that were extremely excited to see all the animals that we heard Jack Hanna was going to show.

My hopes were very high going to this event, but was quickly shot down. He only showed three birds and a few snakes. Jack told some very interesting stories of the adventures that he has had. He gave his opinion on P.E.D.A. and their attempts to close down many zoos and Sea World. Although he told many interesting stories, there was nothing to keep the attention of young children including my own. My kids just wanted to see animals do tricks, and honestly, so did I.

I was in agreement with the explorer when he expressed his feelings about the animal rights organization P.E.D.A. He had expressed that he was extremely disturbed by the idea of closing down zoos and Sea World. Zoos are in place to educate young children about wild life. Many people, such as the famous “crocodile hunter” Steve Irwin, have died trying to educate children of the animals around the world. Jack Hanna said that he loves animals but he thinks that children’s education is more important. Animals in preservations such as our own Caldwell Zoo here in Tyler is not abusing animal rights or abusive towards animals, but are a safe place that people can observe animals from across the world.

Jack Hanna talked about his adventures and encounters with people and animals from all different countries. His stories were very interesting and I would like to hear him again but I wish that the zoo would of described his presentation as him telling stories, instead of being some what misleading and saying that he was going to show animals and entertain children of all ages.

Salvation Army – Tyler, TX

January 12th, 2010

Salvation Army is located down on Broadway past the court house on your right. It is a place where if you are without a home or a way to live you can go while you are trying to get your life back on track. There are a variety of things that Salvation Army has to offer. One program is an out patient program and one is inpatient. The outpatient program allows you to get a job and continue counseling and trying to fix your life.

You do have to pay on an outpatient program, which I think is about $50 dollars a week or so. Very cheap for somewhere to live and three meals to eat and they provide the church also. The inpatient program is for cases that are more serious. It is for people who are battling with addictions and are trying to stop. The program provides for you a safe place where you can leave the bad things behind and move forward toward the good in life. In the morning there are classes to attend, then lunch, and finally work duty during the time you are there trying to get your life back on track.

They are also trying to teach you how to better prepare for getting a job and being responsible in life. It is true that some of the people there are court ordered, but some are there because they made a choice to be there. Just like any other place you go, there are rules and regulations you have to follow in order to remain there. It is a drug free environment. So if you are planning on drinking and using drugs…it’s not the place for you to be. Also if you do not cope well with being told what to do and not to do, it’s also not the place for you.

If you can overlook all these things and are in need of getting your life back together because of the choice that you have made then Salvation Army might be able to help you start your life over. It is a Christian Ministry so while you are trying to get your life back physically they also help you get your life back spiritually.

Salvation Army is a non-profit organization that runs by people donating money throughout the year and primarily during Christmas. Salvation Army in Tyler Texas also has a type of a “Good Will” going where you can go purchase clothes, shoes, and things for your home ect. The prices are pretty reasonable and sometimes you can find good deals. If you are not interested in shopping then you can donate the things that you no longer want to the Salvation Army and they will use it to run the Ministry.

Dove Tree Apartment Tyler Texas

October 27th, 2009

Dovetree Apartments in Tyler TX
There are many different apartment complexes in Tyler Texas, but I have had the most personal experience at the Dove Tree apartment complex. I was first attracted to the complex because of the location and price. One advice that I would give to anyone looking for an apartment is to get the complaints that were made to the police department.

As my new family and I looked for an apartment we wanted a safe place for a good price. I found Dove Tree apartment. It looked great and could give us the apartment that we wanted right away. It was right in the middle of town. The apartment was just a couple miles from the mall and grocery stores. As a bonus, the apartment had a pool and a great work out room. Our neighbors were, nice, yet interesting, to say the least. We did not have any problems with the people around and we lived a couple miles from my work. It seemed great.

After a couple months after living there the roof began to leak. We called maintenance. It took about two weeks of annoying dripping throughout the night and several frustrating phone calls for someone to come take a look at our bathroom ceiling. Finally a man came in the middle of the day and vacuumed out a metal crawl space from where water was dripping into the four buckets we had in the middle of our bathroom floor. That idea stopped the unbearable dripping for only a couple days. A few more weeks past and several more phone calls before they decided to come again. I would think that if one thing was not working that they would try to do something else. But again the maintenance vacuumed out the water and went onto the next thing. I was very frustrated after fighting with this for months, and the entire time we lived there it never was completely fix.

Apartments have so many hidden secrets. Even though we had a six month lease we had to tell the management that we were leaving about four months before we were going to move out or they would charge us an outrageous fee. This bothered me, because if you get a six month lease, obviously your intentions are to move out in six months. I met one young lady who did not realize this rule and went to tell them a couple weeks before she left, they told her that she had to pay for the next month and some ridiculous fee that did not completely make sense.

The apartment selection is huge in the Tyler area, do not sale yourself short. Make sure the maintenance is quick and do not forget to read the small print.
