Update on the Double D in Tyler TX

Double D's in Tyler TX

Double D Ranch in Tyler Texas

Ok, not to kick a dead horse here, but it seems there is yet more news on the on- going fight over the new Double D Ranch trying to open here in Tyler. Judge Christi Kennedy’s of the 114th District Court, has granted a restraining order requested by Toys R Us which bars the establishment from advertising (in the form of signs and banners), or hiring a “Scantily Clad,” wait staff. Does Scantily Clad have a legal definition? How Scanty is too scanty? The ruling said that the location of the new restaurant would do irreparable harm to the toy store.

Look I’m not comfortable being on this side of the argument but I just don’t believe it. Is the D.D. tacky? Yes. It is. Would I go there? No I wouldn’t. Is it legal? Yep, afraid so folks. Bad taste is not against the law. At the end of the day, I don’t know whether or not the Ranch will open for business here in Tyler, and honestly I don’t much care. I think the whole case is much ado about nothing. It’s not a hill I want to die on. I just hate to see citizens fighting these sorts of battles in the courts. Affordable but quality craftmanship in home remodeling repairs in the Tyler TX area

January 26th, 2011

Over the last 2 years I have had several different home remodeling companies over to our Tyler TX home. During this time of being a general contractor of sorts for my own home I have seen a lot of problems that happen by not questioning contractors and getting enough bids from different companies.

I hope that this article can help you in making an informed decision when hiring a home remodeling company to fix up your Tyler Texas home.

The number one headache I have at this point is the issue I have been dealing with of a bad paint job in my sons room.

I failed to ask the painters I hired if they would be using quality paint rather than closet paint.

You see there are different qualities of paint and the lower the quality the cheaper the cost.

Although you may pay a painting company a certain price and may have even haggled them down quite a bit they can make up for it in what quality of paint they purchase.

I have even been told that cheap closet paint was used in many of the mansions built at the Cascades. I have no idea if this is true but so what, what could be the worst case scenario?

I personally have experienced what problems creep up with low quality paint. The problem I have had is that within only a few short weeks whenever my son has scraped a hotwheel car against the wall or even a book the paint would peel off.

Keep in mind the paint has had plenty of time to dry but nonetheless the paint peels off if there is even the slightest harsh brush against it.

This paint peeling problem is number one issue that occurs when a low quality paint job is done on an interior home paint job.

Be sure to ask the painters you hire exactly what type of paint they plan on purchasing for the job and why. Also ask them if the paint is considered a low quality paint or high quality.

Don’t let a painter convince you that low quality is just as good and if youwant go ahead and call Sherman Williams paint store and talk the choice of paint over with a sales man.

A Sherman Williams paint sales guy will usually no more than many grunt level painters who haven’t even picked up a single book on the subject of professional painting.

Unfortunately in many cases a general contractor must know more about each aspect of the construction of a house than the individual niche experts putting the house together.

For each new project you plan for your Tyler TX home go ahead and watch a few short youtube instructional videos and you will find you will have plenty of good interview questions to ask your local Tyler Texas home contractor.

Wired Zip- Line Challenge Course in Canton TX

July 19th, 2010

A couple of weeks ago I wrote an article on NY- TX Zip Line Adventures, east of Athens. Well I just discovered that there is yet another such business in our area. Wired Zip- Line Challenge Course is located in Canton Texas, and is billed as the tallest and longest zip- line course in the state. Of the two courses that I’ve investigated, Wired seems the most developed. Their elaborately and sturdily built steel towers are something to see in and of themselves! And a couple of the towers are linked by heavy wooden suspension bridges. The total length of all the courses combined is around 3500 feet in length. Their wires courses and structures exceed the international standards established by the Association of Challenge Course Technology (ACCT). (I’ve never heard of it either, but evidently this is the organization that certifies these sorts of adventure courses).

Of course safety is the highest concern to Wired’s well trained staff. They take visitors through a short list of dos and don’ts, and give a short lesson on how to safely enjoy the experience. And there are guides present at every stage of the tour. At fifty five dollars a person Wired is slightly more affordable than NY- TX. Presumably there is some kind of group rate, but even for individuals they appear to offer a larger experience than their competitors. As of this summer Wired has increased its hours and are now open from Thursday through Sunday. It is recommended that visitors make reservations, particularly for groups, but walk ins are welcome.

Admittedly I have yet to visit Wired, but based on the pics available on their site, the place looks really cool! The activity sounds surprisingly accessible. People of all ages have tried zip- lining from the age of ten and up. According to the site, the staff will assess the visitor’s physical condition at the time of the visit, but short of obesity or some other glaring physical issue, most people should safely qualify to participate.  Wired Zip- Line Challenge has been reviewed by the likes of Tylerites.com and Examiner.com and was recently chosen as an Editor’s Choice by Canopy Tours. As with NY- TX Zip- Line Adventures, I recommend visiting their website at http://www.ziptheusa.com/. To make reservations by phone, call Wired’s office at (903)567-2681. Lastly, check out my previous article also located on this site. Just look for the title: Tyler Area Zip- Lines.
