Splash Kingdom Water Park Gets You Fun in The Sun

May 11th, 2010

Growing up in Tyler Texas has been a wonderful experience. But as any native Texan knows, the only downside to living here is the crazy weather. As for the summers, I don’t know what I would do if air conditioning and iced tea hadn’t been invented. The absolute surest way to stay cool in the stifling Texas summers is to jump into the pool or go to a water park! A huge problem I always faced when summer rolled around was that my family didn’t own a swimming pool. Moreover, there were no public pools or water parks nearby. Every summer I would struggle to stay cool by swimming in my neighbors’ pool. After a while however, the neighbors beg you to go home… eventually they call the authorities but I digress. The point is this; Tyler Texas was in desperate need of a water park.

I was overjoyed when I learned that a water park would in-fact be opening in Canton. The only real problem was that Canton is about an hour away from Tyler. Still, most people prefer to drive a mere hour to get there, rather than driving a couple hours to get to Hurricane Harbor in Arlington.

After Splash Kingdom opened I visited with some of my friends. We were all very impressed by the cleanliness of the water park. There was always an employee emptying trash cans or sweeping sidewalks. As for the rides, I was mostly, but not completely pleased. The park has five big slides; three body slides and two tube slides. The tube slides are very fun; one is an open slide and another is enclosed. I didn’t really enjoy two of the body slides; “The Express” is a slide with an enormous drop and it is definitely not for the faint of heart! It’s far too terrifying for me. The other slide was the “Pink Panic.” Contrary to the Express, it was so slow that I think I actually got stuck in the middle of the slide, and I found myself pushing against the sides of the slide in order to propel myself further down the slope. The only body slide I really liked was the “Royal Flush,” which was really fun. If slides are not your favorite part of water parks, there is also a lazy river and a wave pool, which are great if you just want to relax. There is also a kiddy pool and playground, and a new area called “Paradise Island” that has some slides that are not as thrilling as the large slides.

Splash Kingdom is a great place to hang out in the summer, and it is a lot of fun. The prices are reasonable ($16-20), and for the summer of 2010, the park will be open May 29 through August 23. It is now one of my favorite places to go to cool off in the summer. For more information, see their website at www.splashkingdomwaterpark.com.

Splash Kingdom Water Park in East Texas

January 8th, 2010

If you want to have a good time in East Texas during the summer especially if you have a family then I strongly urge you to take the fam over to Splash Kingdom water park in Canton Texas. There are some unique differences between Splash Kingdom and Six Flags water Park known as Wet n’ Wild. Six Flags most recently has filed for bankruptcy and I am not sure what the future of Wet n’ Wild will be after the restructuring of their business.

Splash Kingdom is a local Christian water park and has Christian music on their loud speakers throughout the park. Isn’t it great how a private business in Texas can do things how they want? If we were in San Fransisco with a water park that had Christian music on the loud speakers there would likely be some type of law forbidding you from being able to do that. Once on their website you will notice the lifeguards wear Christian crosss T-shirts and there are pictures of baptisms taking place at the water park. Anyone in the Tyler or East Texas area should visit and support one of the few Christian family friendly businesses in our state. Splash Kingdom is truly a remarkable company and we feel lucky to live so close to the park.

We still have quite a bit of freedoms in this wonderful state and being in this water park where the owners run their park in their own unique way in a family friendly way is something I feel proud about. There just aren’t many companies in Texas any more that show their spiritual side because lets face it many people are scared that they just wouldn’t be being politically correct. Splash Kingdom offers many different park snacks and foods or you can eat outside the park at one of their picnic tables if you want to bring your own food. For safety reasons the park will not allow you to bring coolers, glass and food items into the park. This keeps beer and alcohol out and coolers from falling over and spilling food out into the lazy river. No swet, just eat your picnic outside on a picnic table or the bed of your truck.

Splash Kingdom has several large slides and rides and one of those funnel slides where you empty out into a funnel that causes you to spin around and plop out into a pool of water. The water park also has volleyball courts and a wave pool. The water park offers a music venue where Christian bands can perform similar to Six Flags but the good thing about Splash Kingdom water park is they keep things family friendly. You can check out their website for the latest event schedules and who they have booked to play at their park.

Things To Do In Tyler Texas

December 16th, 2009

This will be a reoccurring topic in the Tyler TX Directory as one of the most common things you hear in any non-metropolitan city is that there is nothing to do in this town. I usually hear this from those obviously too cool to be living in Tyler with their facial piercings and angry Mohawk syndrome. Let’s face it there are some cool people in Tyler and I see them hanging out all the time over at Starbucks. From what I hear they all want to go to New York to experience life because this town is just not that cool and never was.

Well I like Tyler Texas and have found some interesting things to do here quite frequently. About half of making this town fun and enjoyable is to get yourself connected with some local friends. These friends will make things more fun in general regardless of what you do and will be able to hook you up with some places you would not normally have access to. For instance, I get to fish at this private lake from time to time with my father n’ law that I never knew about before. I won’t say where exactly but there are about 7 different camps, Christian camps, and retreats in the Tyler area that have everything from ziplines, pools, private lakes, to mountain bike trails. These little areas represent some extras that most Tyler people do not have access to but with a few connections you could very easily be able to have a little fun at one of these places. You may already have access to one of these places but have taken it for granted.
