That Old White And Orange

January 8th, 2010

It all started with one man’s dream, a dream of forcing people to praise his hamburgers by merely mentioning his restaurant. Maybe it was the constant subliminal verification of his burgers deliciousness, or maybe it was the five inch diameter, but whatever the reason something brought people back to Harmon Dobson’s burger stand. Now nearly sixty years later, Whataburger is still selling its monstrous burgers and is still under the Dobson name. Even the employees of Mr. Dobson’s legacy are referred to as family members, giving the restaurant just a touch of a cult atmosphere that will leave you curious and willing to accept their fast food answers.

A self proclaimed Texas treasure, Whataburger can be counted on twenty four seven for your burger, chicken or cinnamon roll needs. The prices may have changed from the twenty five cent burgers first sold in 1950 but the menu, has actually changed quite a bit as well. The iconic white and orange A-frames beckon to your inner glutton with a menu that could feed a small African nation. Whataburger will show you the meaning of delicious and excessive variety with their carte du jour which spans from taquito’s to pancakes, not to mention the standard and not so standard burger options. And occasionally if you’re lucky you may stumble into one of their themed locations in Tyler Texas, adorned with anything from un-blinking taxidermy of mythical animals to fifties icons caged in plexi glass.

But decorations aside, the food speaks for itself. Rarely does a restaurant come along that truly relates to all varieties of taste, from the Barbeque chicken burger for individuals with a bit of a sweet tooth to the mustard, onion, and pickle Justaburger for people who were apparently born with no sense of taste. But in the end we can all depend on Whataburger for more food than you could or should possibly eat.

The Egg and I

Egg and I breakfast in Tyler TX
I walked into the Egg and I Tyler TX Restaurant and was very impressed. The small restaurant only serves breakfast, brunch and lunch. The restaurant is scented with sweet smell hazelnut coffee and maple syrup. The waitresses greeted you with a friendly “hello” and they were extremely helpful when ordering.

We looked over the menu and we pleasantly surprised with the prices, and the wonderful selection of breakfast and lunch entrees. I looked through the large omelet selection. The menu had every type of omelet that you could imagine. Mushrooms, cheddar or Swiss cheese, beef ham or bacon, they all sounded so great. I ordered a cordon blue casserole. I was amazed in the great flavoring of the potatoes, chicken and ham mixed together toped with Swiss cheese and cheese sauce and finally topped off with their famous egg cooked to my liking.

If you are not an egg lover don’t fret, egg items are not the only things on the menu. If you are a sweet tooth and want something to ease that chocolate craving, you are in luck! Order the filling and truly homemade tasting chocolate chip pancake. Dig into the thick fluffy chocolate chip stuffed pancake topped off with chocolate sauce and served with maple syrup on the side.

Choose from their delicious coffees, or choose a juice or fountain drink.

The service was amazing. The waitresses and waiters were polite and were constanly refilling drinks and asking if there was anything else that we wanted. After we ordered our food, it took lease than ten minutes for our food to come out to our table.

They have another room that you can reserve for a party or meeting. It is very private and closed off from the rest off the restaurant. So call and reserve the private room today.

Enjoy great company, a quiet atmosphere, and great food at a wonderful price. Come to the Egg & I for a meeting, party or date.

Hallmark

December 15th, 2009

As Christmas roles in my “candy” themed Christmas tree begins to crowd with ornaments. For us its tradition to get ornaments for everyone in the family. This task is much more difficult than just picking up a few balls at Wal-Mart. The ornament has to be meaningful, or remind you of that person, to show that you were thinking of them. For this reason, my first pace to shop is always Hallmark. With their walls orderly filled with all different ornaments its easy to find the perfect one. Movie themes are a big hit. It seems like every year there is a “Christmas Story” ornament in the mix. So if it’s the “Baby’s first Christmas” or if your like me and your Christmas has a sweet tooth you can always find your preference here.

I don’t think there is anywhere else that is a better shopping spot for Christmas presents for Grandparents. What do grandparents love more that pictures of their grandchildren? Or a beautiful nativity scene for the living room, and not to mention the singing booty shaking Santa that we all love. Also for those friends that you see only every once in a while, and your not sure if you should send them something or not, get them an unforgettable card from the well known, large card selection.
