It’s a Wonderful life at King’s Academy

December 4th, 2010

It’s that time of year again, Christmas trees, family gatherings, holiday blockbusters and school Christmas plays. Ok so it’s kind of an awkward lead in, but over the last few days the King’s Academy Christian School (KACS) drama department has been holding its annual Christmas play. This year the students are presenting the classic “It’s a Wonderful Life!” The play is being held on Campus at King’s Academy (a facility the school shares with Trinity Baptist Church). The setting is a dinner theatre / coffee and dessert, and the performance takes place with in a circle of table and chairs, for a sort of theater and the round experience.

The King’s drama department has had a very successful run since the schools inception almost seven years ago. Despite KACS smallish size they have successfully produced at least one, often two major productions every year (a fall and a spring presentation, obviously). The school has also worked closely with Tyler Civic Theatre and Roger’s Children’s Theatre over the years. Many King’s students have played roles in the community theatre’s various productions.

This fall’s project has been a great success. The staff and students have worked hard to put together a terrific adaptation of a Christmas classic. It’s a play I was surprised to see performed in a live action format but the class does a great job. The last performance will be held Saturday, the forth, at two in the afternoon. For last minute info, contact King’s Academy at (903) 534-9992. The school is located at 604 West Forth Street in Tyler.

Something Different At King’s Academy

January 8th, 2010

At the beginning of the Summer I focused much of my writing attention on private schools and tutoring services in Tyler. One of the first schools I profiled was King’s Academy Christian School. Well, I have an amendment, or an addition to the piece I wrote in June. After five years sharing a facility with New Covenant Church on Shelley drive, the school has out grown that building, and is moving to a new location. King’s Academy will now be sharing a building with Trinity Baptist Church on Fourth Street in Tyler.

The school will retain its autonomy in terms of its government and denominational affiliation, (or lack thereof), but will partner with the church in order to share the cost of the facilities. The new location is beautiful, and will allow the school to continue to expand. The classes and programs offered by the school will not change too much immediately, but the staff hopes that the new digs will allow the school’s opportunities to grow along with the student body. Thankfully most of the faculty will be returning, so the Tyler schools immediate future continues to look bright.

King’s Academy in Tyler is enrolling now. Classes start on August twenty fourth, with open houses the proceeding week. To learn more about King’s see my earlier blog dated June seventeenth entitled “Something different in Education,” also located on this site. For even more information, call their office at (903)534-9992, or see the website at www.kacs.net. For more information on Trinity Baptist Church, call (903)593-3143 or visit their website at www.tbctyler.org. To learn more about New Covenant Church see their website at www.ncctyler.org.

Trinity Baptist Church of Tyler

October 15th, 2009

Well, it seems as though I’ve started writing on a class of East Texas institutions I have been hesitant to start writing on. Of course I’m referring to churches, but after writing about my own church and those of my family members I find that, as Wellington said, I’m in for a penny, in for a pound. My purpose is to make Tylerites aware of the local church traditions they have to choose from.

While I’m not a member of the Baptist church, I can certainly respect the faith and sincerity of many of my family and friends who are. Trinity Baptist Church has been a part of the Tyler community for many years and is located at 604 West 4th in Tyler. Doctrinally the church follows the teaching of the Baptist denomination. The church is full of sincere Bible believers who are reaching out to the Tyler community, and the world beyond. Trinity Baptist is involved with numerous local charities and missions organizations so they offer a variety of opportunities for members to plug into. The church has contemporary worship and offers a variety of Christian education classes for congregants of all ages.

The church building itself is beautiful. It offers enough classroom space for any number of events and classes, offered both by the church and the school who now shares the facility during the week. The staff is accommodating and helpful and is concerned about the needs of the congregation.

This past summer Trinity Baptist invited King’s Academy Christian School to share its wonderful facility. The church has been a huge blessing to this new area ministry in a way that has allowed it operate comfortably, and even expand. For anyone looking for a new church home with a preference for the Baptist tradition, I strongly recommend looking at Trinity. Their website is currently under construction, but for more information I suggest contacting their office at (903)593-3143. For more information on King’s Academy, see the Tyler Blog section of this site, and look for the titles “Something Different in Education,” and “Something Different at King’s Academy.” Also see the articles section and look for the title “Six- Man Football Returns to Tyler.”
