Mexican Chinese buffet in Tyler Texas

Pancho Panda

Tyler, TX 75704
Phone: 903-593-9200
Hours of Business:
Monday – Sunday: 11:00am to 9:00pm

I am one of those people that is  little scared of gong into a buffet and if it weren’t for others in my family that enjoy the occasional buffet I would never go.

I think of things like sick people coughing into the food that are in the buffet line and stupid things like that but isn’t that why they have a plexiglass shield guard so that doesn’t happen?

Well Pancho Panda has the plexi glass guard to protect the buffet food and under that glass are both mexican food entrees and chinese food.

Thinking of the combination of Mexican food and Chinese food never wets my appetite but my brother wanted me to try this place out so me and a few other guys went in to give it a shot.

I was surprised to find out that the restaurant wasn’t half bad. The enchiladas, crunchy tacos and quesadillas all tasted pretty good.

I also tried some Chinese food. I got the bourbon chicken, an egg roll, and some fried rice. I was pleased with the Chinese food as well.

cream cheese won tonsFor desert I had some jello squares and cream cheese fried won tons. The fried won tons were ok bu they are the seafood kind. I was hoping it would just have cream cheese in them without the seafood but that is hardly ever the case.

Well anyway this place wasn’t half bad. I am ok with this place and I think if you are a buffet person you will want to give them a try.

Will I go back here by myself? Probably not, I am just not into buffets and probably never will be. When comparing buffets in Tyler Texas though this takes on of the top spots. Take this review for what it is worth coming from someone who normally does not choose a buffet restaurant as a place to eat at.

Direct TV or Suddenlink, Which One, Hard to Decide Hmmm?

April 23rd, 2010

Well, I recently did something I didn’t want to do. I moved from Direct TV Call Now: 888-652-1609 (a service I am very fond of), back to Suddenlink Cable.  It was a difficult decision, but one I had to make as a grown adult, rather than a very, post adolescent television addict, (I confess I may be walking a fine line on that last one). My leaving the former was less the fault of Direct TV and due more to the fact that AT&T has failed to supply my residence with an internet option. When I say my residence I’m not misspeaking. There are actually those in my west Tyler suburban neighborhood, who do have AT&T as their internet provider, but for some unknown reason the company has been unable to supply me with bandwidth, lo these many years.

So what am I to do? With two writing jobs, a teaching career that is increasingly relying on an internet component, and a very active young son, I simply can’t run out in search of a hot spot every time I have to submit an article or enter a test grade into my grade book. This brings me to Suddenlink Cable. Their DSL internet is terrific! But I simply don’t want to pay for both Direct TV’s and Suddenlink’s services, not on a private school teacher’s salary.  So I made a grown up decision. I filled the DVR with my son’s favorite shows and cancelled my much beloved TiVo and my familiar satellite service, and subscribed instead cable and DSL.

The folks at Suddenlink where actually very helpful. The gentleman who set up my account was gracious enough to finagle the best deal for me; the installers were right on time, and did a fine job. So am I happy with my new arrangement? For now yeah I’ll get used to it. I can’t promise it will be a permanent solution, but it filled a more pragmatic purpose than my old situation did without really affecting my quality of life. At the end of the day however, I’m still morning the loss my TiVo subscription.  I just hope that time does indeed heal all wounds.

For more information on either Suddenlink or Direct TV, see their websites and phone numbers www.suddenlink.com or Direct TV. Then make the choice you find best meets your personal requirements.

Cato’s Clothing Store in Tyler Texas and Lindale

February 25th, 2010

CATO

Cato Clothing Store

Cato Fashion

3222 S. Main Street
Suite 130
Lindale
TX 75771
903 882 7071

Also Highway 64 West Tyler and 3101 Shiloh Road Tyler.

Cato is a woman’s clothes, accessories and shoe shop. Often Catos are located near a Walmart for utter convenience and the items stocked are priced very reasonably to match!

As you walk in the door of Cato there are 2 distinct sides to the shop – on the left is the plus sizes and shoes and on the right is the regular ladies sizes (misses) and the girls clothes – size 7 and up.

The new season’s casual styles line the walls. They carry most sizes in these items and will have items held back at another Cato store for you to collect in your own time, if they don’t. On the racks down the center of the store are the smarter outfits and dresses and to the far side are clearance rails. This is where you can find a real bargain. Most are marked down once or twice depending on how long that item of clothing has been in-store.

My impression of Cato is that they do follow fashion trends although they may be a few months behind the fashion stores in the Mall. They are not afraid of color or bold patterns but carry some neutral colors too. Cato tries to meet your need for both casual and smart outfits. They have plenty of what I call ‘East Texas church tops’ to dress up a pair of pants and I love their cropped jeans with matching belts.

Cato sells a limited amount of low cost sportswear, lingerie and sleepwear too. The shoes are really good value and they sell large sizes and wider shoes too. They have a selection of scarves, belts and other accessories and I have found them to be much cheaper and of similar quality to those purchased at JCPenney.

The shop assistants are friendly and helpful. When you come to check out be warned though – Cato has a nice display of silver jewelry and watches on the counter and if you’re like me, you will be tempted to splurge a little more than you intended. They also sell some bath and body products and some replica perfumes, which though inexpensive, fail to convince.

I have had impeccable customer service from Cato and have had no trouble in exchanging items that were not right or bought on impulse.

You will find clothes bought at Cato are better quality, nicer designs and more upmarket in general than Walmart but the prices are very similar. If you like to look good and have new clothes which don’t cost the earth, it’s certainly worth browsing there every couple of months or so.

McDonalds in the Wal-Mart Supercenter on HWY 64

February 1st, 2010

McDonald’s

3820 Hwy 64 West
Tyler, TX 75704

McDonald’s is able to maintain a standard nationwide. In fact, I know that McDonald’s in Chiang Mai, Thailand is almost exactly like McDonald’s here in the United States. So, if you’ve been to one McDonald’s restaurant, then you pretty much know what they are like everywhere.

This restaurant branch is a little different only because of its location. The busiest fast food restaurant is located in the busiest retail super store. So there are a few things to know about this location before you decide to take your girlfriend out on a date to it. The high business traffic leads to a couple of issues. The first is that the seating area tends to be messy beyond all reason. I basically don’t want to touch any of the surfaces near the soda machines and ketchup station, due to the straw wrappers, ketchup smears and high volumes of salt poured everywhere.

This mess continues on to the tables which happen to be very comfortable booths with ergonomically designed back supports. The same stuff makes the tables a little unappealing. There will often be leftover napkins, ketchup smears and salt hiding all over the table waiting to stick to your arm when you finally relax and get ready to eat. This all may because of the weird hours in which my life and schedule find me eating. Nevertheless, it does not make me want to sit and relax over a wonderful fast food meal.

Another lame thing about this McDonald’s is that there are always so many people standing around the register. I’m not claustrophobic, but I always feel crowded and awkward waiting in line. One problem that adds to this is the high number of Wal-Mart employees who are trying to squeeze in a whole meal during their short break from their shift. I had one very awkward time about a year ago, when a cashier waiting in line behind me was in a hurry and letting me know with huffs, forced laughs and comments about how far back I was standing from the register. This extreme only happened once, though.

The restaurant is located right after the busiest entrance of this Wal-Mart Super Center near the deli and produce section. This leads to another awkward experience. It feels like the whole world sees what you are ordering and that you are doing a poor job juggling the groceries you just bought from Wal-Mart.

As for the good things about this store: it is a full fledged McDonald’s. That should be enough said. There is a reason McDonald’s has stood the test of time and maintained their status as the most popular fast food chain. The food is so good and almost addictive. The thing that makes this McDonald’s have some negatives is also a positive. It is in Wal-Mart. When I am in a hurry running errands, I couldn’t ask for a more convenient location for a quick and very affordable meal. The employees are all nice enough and very efficient and timely. It is a well-oiled machine.
