High School football Week 0 results

August 31st, 2013

Well, high school football Week 0 is in the books and fan from Tyler and all around East Texas crowded together at football stadiums to see a tradition unlike any other.

The Tyler Lee Red Raiders were played host to the Sulphur Spring Wildcats at Trinity Mother Francis Rose Stadium, and they put on a good show for home fans in attendance.

There are so many fascinating story lines surrounding East Texas Teams this season.

Chapel Hill went to back-to-back state championships. Can they go back and add to that success. There’s no reason to think they won’t at least be contenders, especially after the opening night’s win over the Lindale Eagles.

Speaking of the state championship, John Tyler made a run at it last year and just fell short deep in the playoffs against Guyer by 4 points. The Lions finished the season with an overall record of 13-2. They’ve come back with a full-reloaded team in 2013 and it could be just a matter of correcting their mistakes made in 2012 and applying those lessons in the 2013.

The final are some of the scores from opening week:

Chapel Hill 56, Lindale 37

Coppell 32, Longview 24

Tyler Lee 55, Sulphur Springs 20

Lufkin 52, John Tyler 28

High schools gear up for football season

July 27th, 2013

The John Tyler Lions are set to kick off the season against the Lufkin Panthers.

Time flies when you’re having fun, and when you’re flat out busy with not time to spare. Regardless, this summer has flown by and is almost

over. A good side to that though is the fact football season is right around the corner.
NFL training camps are in full swing as are college football and Aug. 5 will be the first day of practices for high schools around the state of Texas.

What’s not to like about football at any level? East Texas has seen several of its own hometown athletes go on to do bigger and better things at the college and pro levels, so why not take advantage this football season and be among some of the first people to see the next Adrian Peterson or Earl Campbell.

As for teams right here, the John Tyler Lions are slated to open up 2013 season on the road against the Lufkin Panthers. The Robert E. Lee Red Raiders will also be on the road as they take on the Sulphur Springs Wildcats. The Chapel Hill Bulldogs will open the season at home when they play host to the Lindale Eagles.
All the Week 0 action is set to take place Friday, August 30.
