Are you tiered of the same date nights in Tyler? Is Chili’s and a movie getting old? And are you wanting something more classy than the over populated bar and pubs filled with bar flies? Try the Kiepersol (KE) cellar in the French corner next to David’s Bridal.

KE sells two lines of award winning wines, “4 you”, and also “KE cellars”. Enjoy live music and wine tasting ($1.00). Get something to go, or enjoy the night with music, wine, and cheese and meat trays. You can also get something to eat for dinner while you are there.

KE also has a fine dinning restaurant known for its steaks, fresh sea food, and of course its wine. The restaurant has a dress code, business-casual clothing required. Enjoy this fancy dinning opened Monday thru Saturday for dinner and lunch.

If you need a get away there is also a bed and breakfast available for you. Five rooms available with king size beds and three of them with porches and private hot tubs. Enjoy a romantic private weekend with wine tasting and dinning from their elegant restaurant.

When you are throwing that perfect party or wedding reception, Kiepersol has a the KE Bushman’s “winery and celebration center.” This beautiful banquet hall holds up to 800 people or 500 people if you wish to have banquet seating. They serve food and KE wines and do not allow outside food or catering. The center is located ten miles south of Tyler off of Hwy 69.

KE also has a ranch where they sale top bread cattle, both bulls and cows. And also Kiepersol has many property and estates for sale through their real estate business.

Outback Steakhouse, Service and Food

In the past few visits to Outback Steakhouse I have noticed a dramatic improvement in service and food quality. The deserts actually taste better and the steaks have been cooked right. Consistency is a big deal to me and Outback has really been getting it right. A few years ago something was off and I imagine Outback may have had a bad manager or something because the service was always terrible, the food didn’t come out cooked correctly or even tasting right. I am so glad that Outback in Tyler TX is back on track and has their service, food, and steak temperatures down. I know that for every negative thing that happens to you it takes about 5 good things to evenly balance your assessment of a restaurant. Taking that into consideration I truly believe that Outback management is back on top of what goes on there.

One minor pet peeve of mine is I wish that Outback would rinse out their beer mugs and glasses a little better. The edible sanitizer in the glasses can be tasted very well in beer and it really ruins the beer taste. This sanitizer taste in beer mugs and glasses seems to be the case in almost every Outback franchise I walk into whether it be in Houston, Dallas, or Tyler.

Regarding the Outback deserts I would say that the hot fudge brownie icecream thing is much better than what you get at Chili’s. I would still prefer to head over to Marble Slab for some of their icecream but the fudge brownie thing is very good. The recent holiday addition of the gingerbread cookie martini however looks very disgusting and I am not sure why anyone would buy it. The Martini has cookie crumbs on the rim and a gingerbread cookie floating in the alcoholic beverage. I just don’t get it and I am not sure enough people would understand this combination to buy it. I may be wrong but I just had to mention the martini because it was very weird.

My recommendation when ordering from Outback steakhouse is to go with their 7 ounce filet and maybe even add a lobster tail. I would have the steak cooked medium and I think you will really enjoy that dinner. I always get their house salad and a loaded baked potato although their ceasar salad and sweet potato are also very good choices.

If you love causal dining, you are probably familiar with this decision: do I choose Chili’s, Applebee’s, or TGI Fridays? It’s a difficult call. All three have a bar inside, have exciting food choices, and are chock full of pep. They each have good food, and are fun places to go. So let’s be honest: they are essentially the same restaurant.

Between these three titans stands Cheddar’s, a national chain with a location on South Broadway in Tyler. Unlike its 3 older brothers, Cheddars is not decorated with Elvis vinyls, shiny hub-caps, or posters of the cast of Friends sharing a malt. Whether you’re eating outside next to the classy fountain or inside in the elegant decor, Cheddar’s actually allows your senses to relax while you eat. That’s a novel concept for casual dining fans who are used to sensory overload.

Wherever you choose to sit down, you simply must have some chips and salsa. They will come complimentary, but you would pay for them even if they didn’t. What you need to pay for is the cheesy Santa Fe Spinach Dip, as long as you know when to stop. It is creamy and intoxicating. You won’t regret it. The only downside is you might not have room for any other appetizers, like the Chicken Fajita Quesadillas or fabulous Texas Cheese Fries.

The main menu, while not earth-shakingly original, is filled with delicious options. The soups and salads are fresh, and the burgers are terrific. Their Great Plates menu is full of cant-misses, like the Grilled Chicken Fettucini Alfredo, which would make the Olive Garden proud. But for this customer, it’s Cheddar’s sandwiches that set it apart from its competitors. Whenever I go, I struggle mightily between the Monte Cristo and the Philly Cheese Steak. I’m not going to tell you that the Philly is better than anything on the east coast, but it is plenty authentic enough for me, and I’ve had a Philly in Philly. And the Monte Cristo–a perfectly concocted blend of batter, meat, cheese and raspberry preserves–is one of those meals you feel you can’t go wrong with.

There are better restaurants in Tyler than Cheddars, but there is no better meal for your money. The portions are large, and the prices are alarmingly small. You can easily get filled up on a very nice meal for less than $10.

When I took my friends from out of town to Cheddars, they wanted to bottle up their salsa and take the whole restaurant home to Minnesota. It’s a well-run establishment, committed not to flair but to value. The only gimmick you’ll find is a great meal at a small price.
