Trendy Chicks Offers Fashionable Womens Clothing Choices for the Holidays

October 31st, 2011

Trendy ChicksTrendy Chicks is a successful clothing store for women that has made a name for itself in Longview and has now expanded into Tyler Texas.

You will find their store off of Broadway right behind Racquet and Jog. Their grand opening will be on Friday but I came in for a sneak peak into what they offer.

I am always suspicious when walking into a small women’s fashion store because I usually see a terrible selection of clothing but these ladies obviously have a knack for picking out good fashion.

I found the clothing selections to be fashionable, tasteful and a wide selection to choose from. Their prices are reasonable as most of their items go for in between $30 – $60.

This store also offers jewelry accessories to go along with their outfits or you may just want to leave with some jewelery for an outfit you own at home.

When I dropped by to meet this new Tyler business it seemed like I had met the owners before but I couldn’t quite place it. I then remembered Trendy Chicks has a TV commercial that aired in Tyler while they still only had a store in Longview. I remember thinking when seeing the commercial that it was too bad they didn’t have a store in Tyler also. Now their TV commercial will be more bang for the buck next time it airs as they now have  Tyler and Longview store.

Go by on Friday for their grand opening and get something for someone for Christmas.

Cato’s Clothing Store in Tyler Texas and Lindale

February 25th, 2010

CATO

Cato Clothing Store

Cato Fashion

3222 S. Main Street
Suite 130
Lindale
TX 75771
903 882 7071

Also Highway 64 West Tyler and 3101 Shiloh Road Tyler.

Cato is a woman’s clothes, accessories and shoe shop. Often Catos are located near a Walmart for utter convenience and the items stocked are priced very reasonably to match!

As you walk in the door of Cato there are 2 distinct sides to the shop – on the left is the plus sizes and shoes and on the right is the regular ladies sizes (misses) and the girls clothes – size 7 and up.

The new season’s casual styles line the walls. They carry most sizes in these items and will have items held back at another Cato store for you to collect in your own time, if they don’t. On the racks down the center of the store are the smarter outfits and dresses and to the far side are clearance rails. This is where you can find a real bargain. Most are marked down once or twice depending on how long that item of clothing has been in-store.

My impression of Cato is that they do follow fashion trends although they may be a few months behind the fashion stores in the Mall. They are not afraid of color or bold patterns but carry some neutral colors too. Cato tries to meet your need for both casual and smart outfits. They have plenty of what I call ‘East Texas church tops’ to dress up a pair of pants and I love their cropped jeans with matching belts.

Cato sells a limited amount of low cost sportswear, lingerie and sleepwear too. The shoes are really good value and they sell large sizes and wider shoes too. They have a selection of scarves, belts and other accessories and I have found them to be much cheaper and of similar quality to those purchased at JCPenney.

The shop assistants are friendly and helpful. When you come to check out be warned though – Cato has a nice display of silver jewelry and watches on the counter and if you’re like me, you will be tempted to splurge a little more than you intended. They also sell some bath and body products and some replica perfumes, which though inexpensive, fail to convince.

I have had impeccable customer service from Cato and have had no trouble in exchanging items that were not right or bought on impulse.

You will find clothes bought at Cato are better quality, nicer designs and more upmarket in general than Walmart but the prices are very similar. If you like to look good and have new clothes which don’t cost the earth, it’s certainly worth browsing there every couple of months or so.

Goodwill on Loop 323

January 26th, 2010

Goodwill on Loop 323

1817 W.S.W. Loop 323
Tyler, TX 75701
(903) 581-5422
9am – 8pm

This Goodwill store is located on the South West side of Loop 323 in Tyler, TX. If you are unfamiliar with Tyler just ask someone how to get to the mall, and there’s a good chance you’ll see the Goodwill on the way there. It has an almost ridiculously large and attractive sign for the type of store it is. The parking lot is attractive as far as thrift stores usually go. Though, be warned. This parking lot is on a fairly steep hill. Sometimes it causes awkward entrances and exits in my car.

The most obvious reason people go to a Goodwill thrift store is for the clothes. This branch offers a huge supply of men’s, women’s and children’s clothing. One interesting fact about this store is that they also have a few racks of completely brand new women’s clothes. Though, the prices are pretty high for these new items. These new clothes will usually be all within a similar style. I assume that they are overstock from a clothing store or something along those lines.

Being a man, I’ve spent most of my shopping for clothes in the men’s section. They have the stereotypical suit section that I rarely see people shopping in, but the bulk of this section is devoted to t-shirts, pants, and collared shirts. This is a really good store if you are looking for a new addition to your funny or ironic vintage t-shirt collection. You may pay a dollar or two more than you are used to paying for t-shirts at a thrift store, but I think that the huge selection makes it worth the effort and much more likely that you’ll find a keeper. The dress shirts are in my opinion over priced and not impressive. I can often find a better shirt in the clearance rack at Old Navy for cheaper.

I often check the tie section in hopes of adding some variety to my work attire, but the tie section is a little underwhelming. They are one dollar a piece. That is an awesome price, but in all of my trips I’ve only found one tie worth buying. So keep your eyes open for the chance of getting a nice tie for only a dollar. Also be sure to stop by the two shopping carts full of belts. Most of these are unattractive eighties style, but don’t let that stop you. I recently found four designer belts in near perfect condition for fifty cents a piece! Three of these were nice leather. One was a modern style canvas belt. All of these were name brand and probably worth fifteen dollars or more new. I almost couldn’t believe it, but with Goodwill I’ve learned to not be surprised.

Now why should you make a special trip to this Goodwill? My number one reason for visiting this store is for the book and media section. They have a five or six bookshelf unit section in the back full of books. There is one fully dedicated to children’s books which I usually avoid due to the messy nature of children’s book sections. The rest of the section is pretty incredible. There are new and used books of every genre. You can find most of the John Grisham books on any day. Besides that, it’s the luck of the draw. I never enter the store without checking through the book section, and I’d say that at least half of the time I leave with a book or two or twelve. Also in this section you’ll find a pretty decent selection of audio CDs, computer software CDs, DVDs, VHS tapes and vinyl records. There are certainly more efficient ways to buy CDs and software than a thrift store, but it’s worth the effort to possibly find a gem.

Are there any negative things about this store? There is one major negative. The furniture. In other parts of the country used and outdated furniture gets cheaper and cheaper until it is eventually close to free. This store sells furniture for fifty dollars or more regardless of the condition or style. There are occasionally really good finds on couches or chairs. In fact, I’ve purchased a really nice mirror and a small wooden night stand, that were both reasonably priced. But usually the couches and chairs are ridiculously ugly and still priced at fifty to eighty dollars a piece. Some of these, I would just throw away if I owned them. Regardless of this, eighty dollars is cheaper than a thousand, so maybe I shouldn’t complain about it.

There is one last thing to mention about this Goodwill. If you are in need of a costume, be it for Halloween or just a random themed costume party, I can not think of a better place in Tyler to go for it. This Goodwill has supplied me with costume pieces for at least five different costume parties. I’ve been able to find robes, pants, shirts, jewelry, accessories, and even a couple of wigs and beards. My experience has taught me to skip Wal-Mart and other retailers completely and go straight to Goodwill for costumes and accessories.

So if you are in Tyler and are looking for good thrift store deals, I would suggest going to the other Goodwill in downtown Tyler on Locust St or the Salvation Army store. But if you don’t have time for hunting, this Goodwill on the Loop will most certainly have what you are looking for. You may just have to spend a little more, fight more traffic and weed around way more customers. If you do decide on this store, you can rest assured that at the least they have a pretty amazing set of staff. You should see at least five employees at any given moment who can help you find things or even to help carry out your overpriced and ugly furniture.

Its Fashion Metro

January 14th, 2010

It’s Fashion Metro is a clothing store just in front of the Walmart at HWY 64 and Loop 323.  It is plane on the outside but full of color and style displayed in the merchandise.  They sell cheap cheap cheap jewelry, shoes, lingerie, clothes… and quite the variety for it all too.   I love shopping here because I know I’m always going to find something I like for dirt cheap.  If your style is hip, colorful, fun or too expensive for your income then most likely you will find a piece of treasure here.

It’s Fashion Metro also goes by the name It’s Fashion and is a part of a bigger company called The Cato Company, which specializes in value-priced fashion.  Which means you should be bound to find something useful from either store for a very low price.  I hope you grow to enjoy this store.  I certainly do!

Tyler Ellis Mercantile

January 8th, 2010

Tyler Ellis Merchandise is located off Rt 31 going towards Chandler and it is on your left side. It is a used clothing store where you can go and find pretty nice clothes for very reasonable prices.

Of course, not everything they have there will you like. Think of it more like a treasure hunt. I usually have to go there over and over several times. And sometimes I find something and at other times I don’t. But for the most part I enjoy going and looking anyways.

Just a couple of months ago I found a very nice wool jacket for $7 dollar or so. I love it and its very cozy. They have movies there for very cheap and Cd’s. They range from $3 to $5 dollars a piece. They have different ranges of other stuff, like couches, shoes, kitchen supplies, jewelry. The other stuff isn’t that great for the price but if you want some good clothes and jeans this place can be a money saver.

Baby clothes for teens and adults of all shapes and sizes are also available here. The people are very friendly and are always ready to help you find the things that you are looking for. Men if you are working in construction or anywhere outside and, you are looking for carpenter pants or overalls…this is the place where you will find some.

For Christmas I went there to find my husband some pants and they had plenty of them. So if you don’t mind taking the time to go out there and look through all their stuff then I would suggest you go and check it out. You never know exactly what you might find there.

To me its like a thrift place. The clothes seem to be in very good condition. Also, if you are looking for baby stuff like high chairs, a crib, or a car seat they will usually have these things. Hey sometimes they have these baby items and much more.

Everybody knows that money is hard to come by and every dime you save counts for something. I appreciate being able to go to stores like this, because it suits my budget and my style. Not to lead you astray I don’t always find something I like.

Sometimes I go home empty handed but for me it was still worth it because I got to leave the house and get a break from life and shop at the same time. You can’t beat that. We all know that with the way our economy is going we need all the help we can get on saving money.

So if wearing second hand clothes does not bother you. I would go and try it out and see if you can find something to your liking. The worst thing that could happen is that you go home empty handed.
