Petty’s Steak and Catfish in Lindale TX

March 23rd, 2010

PETTY’S STEAK AND CATFISH

309 N Main Street
Lindale TX 75771
903-882-9510

Petty’s is a very local establishment, located just North of downtown Lindale. It is more than a café, but not quite a restaurant, serving Texan style breakfast, lunch and dinner.

As you walk in you will be greeted by a cheery hello from the friendly staff. There are 2 rooms with seating at booths or larger tables. The walls are covered with black and white photos of Lindale from years past and a longhorn skull is on the wall facing you. To complete the picture, the clientele (mainly men and older folk) wear a mixture of baseball caps and cowboy hats and Western music plays softly.

Petty’s has quite a following – we went for breakfast and the place was almost full. There were 7 breakfast specials to chose from with items like hashbrowns, omelettes, breakfast tacos, pancakes and bacon and eggs to name but a few. They were reasonably priced and served with a free bottomless cups of coffee. My daughter was impressed with her huge stack of doughy pancakes served with butter and warmed maple syrup. The service was prompt and friendly. It looked like the servers were well appreciated with tips which could be because they know many of their customers from previous visits.

For lunch and dinner you can chose from burgers, steak, chicken and shrimp. All are traditionally cooked, Southern style – perhaps not very healthy but very delicious. There are also lighter options like salad (the chicken fajita salad sounds good) and various sandwiches. Appetizers include onion rings, cheese sticks and nachos. Each day there are also specials – regulars for each day of the week – like ribeye steak on a Wednesday, and catfish on Friday, plus additional home cooked items which vary each day. When we were there the specials were meatloaf and chicken fried steak. All dinners include a salad from the salad bar, a baked potato or fries and hot fresh bread. Entrees range from $5 to – $15.99 which is the most expensive option – the steak dinner (less expensive on it’s ‘special’ day). The average price is probably $8. Iced water is brought to your table and there is the usual iced tea, fountain drinks and coffee to drink. It is not licensed to serve alcohol. Children’s meals for the under 12s consist of grilled cheese sandwiches and chicken tenders for $2.99 (sadly no vegetables included).

Pettys offers nothing out of the ordinary in the way of cuisine but the food is good Southern comfort food and obviously popular with the Lindale locals and Tyler residents, particularly men – who aren’t watching the calories they consume! As for myself, I think it is a great place to eat breakfast or to take the kids once in a while. I can’t say that I will frequent it but it will certainly be on my radar!

The Egg and I

January 4th, 2010

Egg and I breakfast in Tyler TX
I walked into the Egg and I Tyler TX Restaurant and was very impressed. The small restaurant only serves breakfast, brunch and lunch. The restaurant is scented with sweet smell hazelnut coffee and maple syrup. The waitresses greeted you with a friendly “hello” and they were extremely helpful when ordering.

We looked over the menu and we pleasantly surprised with the prices, and the wonderful selection of breakfast and lunch entrees. I looked through the large omelet selection. The menu had every type of omelet that you could imagine. Mushrooms, cheddar or Swiss cheese, beef ham or bacon, they all sounded so great. I ordered a cordon blue casserole. I was amazed in the great flavoring of the potatoes, chicken and ham mixed together toped with Swiss cheese and cheese sauce and finally topped off with their famous egg cooked to my liking.

If you are not an egg lover don’t fret, egg items are not the only things on the menu. If you are a sweet tooth and want something to ease that chocolate craving, you are in luck! Order the filling and truly homemade tasting chocolate chip pancake. Dig into the thick fluffy chocolate chip stuffed pancake topped off with chocolate sauce and served with maple syrup on the side.

Choose from their delicious coffees, or choose a juice or fountain drink.

The service was amazing. The waitresses and waiters were polite and were constanly refilling drinks and asking if there was anything else that we wanted. After we ordered our food, it took lease than ten minutes for our food to come out to our table.

They have another room that you can reserve for a party or meeting. It is very private and closed off from the rest off the restaurant. So call and reserve the private room today.

Enjoy great company, a quiet atmosphere, and great food at a wonderful price. Come to the Egg & I for a meeting, party or date.

Breakfast at 3

November 10th, 2009

Pancakes, eggs and bacon for dinner? Or steak and fries for breakfast? At the International House Of pancakes (IHOP) you get the freedom of choice.

Most of the times I have gone to IHOP there is a line out the door. The “A” shaped building is a land mark for fresh, thick, fluffy pancakes. The obnoxious commercials stick with you, so when you are in the mood for the stuffed French toast with strawberries and cool whip, you know to go straight to your town’s IHOP.

You never quite know what kind of service you will get from IHOP. I was impressed the most resent time I visited the breakfast paradise, when our waitress remembered our table’s entire order with out writing it down. I do not think I could remember one person’s order, no less a party of six. There have been other times that I have gone there and have had terrible services, when the waiter forgot have our orders or took forever to bring the food out.

IHOP has added so many items onto their already long menu. They have been advertising the dinner items. I prefer to enjoy the wonderful breakfast items rather than the less than decent dinner items. Watch for great deals, and new delicious food. One of the most famous breakfast deals in Tyler is IHOP’s unending pancakes. On each table there is a delicious selection of fruit or hazelnut or maple syrup.

When I go to IHOP, I usually get the same thing and I am always satisfied with my meal. IHOP does not just have a long menu, great prices and good food, but you always get your money’s worth. Meals are huge served with a large side of eggs made your way, and bacon or sausage, and a huge pile of hash browns. I don’t think I have ever finished eating a meal there.

So stop by and enjoy a coffee and a huge breakfast, anytime of the day, and since it is opened 24 hours, anytime of the night.
