Hell House in Tyler a Halloween Christian Takeover

September 17th, 2010
Hell House Tyler Texas

Tyler TX Hell House

Halloween is just around the corner. Tyler Metro Church will open another year of the haunted house, Hell house. In the years past Hell House has been in the middle of the woods and in creepy “haunted” building.

The last year that I went to Hell House, it was all set out side in the middle of the woods. It was really quite freaky riding towards the woods in a carriage. The next thing I knew was a man jumped onto the back of the carriage and was right on my face. I felt like I was going to pass out, he was dressed up in a demon costume and I was not expecting him.

After we got to the beginning of the woods, the man escorted us off the carriage and to a path through the woods. In the middle of the woods there is all different scene set up. As you watch the different stories of men and women dealing with hard times in their lives, you listen to the temptations of the devil. I would not bring a young kid to Hell House because there are very graphic scenes. The most frightening thing about Hell House is that people dressed as demons keep popping up right in your face.

After you have walked through the different scenes you are lead to a dark underground room that resembles a coffin. As the doors open for you to walk out of the coffin the last scene is a scene of Jesus Christ dying for our sins. They talk to you about new life and Jesus washing away our sins. They have people that are willing to pray for people if they are willing. There has been quite a bit of controversy over Hell House’s message. Some people say that they are scarring people into a relationship with Jesus. Hell House staff says that their message is to show how real Hell is, and that we can have life through Christ alone.

There are many ways to help out with Hell House. They open the doors of Tyler metro for anyone to help out. You can be in the different plays, dress up as different creatures or demons. They ask people to be there to pray for visitors that have gone through Hell House. You and your youth groups or church groups can help out in all different ways.

Clair’s in the Mall

September 13th, 2010

Claire’s has been in the Broadway Square Mall for a long time. When you raise two extremely girlie girls that love dressing up, Claire’s is a frequent stop while shopping at the mall. My girls’ faces light up when they see the corner of fairy and princess accessories.

I can get all my kids’ dress up needs here at Claire’s. The walls are lined with tutus, princess crown, colorful jewelry, hair bows, and fairy wings. With Halloween just around the corner you can dress you kids up with the fun, colorful accessories.

Claire’s does not only have stuff for toddler girls, but for women of all ages. They have the newest styles and accessories. Claire’s has had sales pretty much every time I have gone into the store. Many times they have earrings for “buy one get one half off”. The store has all different style of necklaces, earrings, rings, and bracelets. You can get all different jewelry for a great price. Some of my favorite things in the store are the selections of bags, scarves, and hair accessories. They have all accessories to top off all of your outfits for every season of the year.

When I was really young I got my ears pierced at Claire’s, and I recently took my daughter to get her ears pierced there too. They pretty much do the same thing that they did when I got mine done. They sat her in a car and let her hug a teddy bear. A lady marked her ears with a purple marker just to make sure that they keep the earrings even with each other. I sat her on my lap just to make sure she did not jerk and to make sure that the lady did not miss the mark that she made. After the lady pierced my daughter’s ear, my daughter started crying, but the lady was fast at getting the second ear pierced even though she had to “re-load”. As the lady was doing the second ear, my daughter jerked, but the lady still pierced it on the right spot. After it was done my daughter was still crying so the lady helped calm her down by showing her how beautiful her ears were and by giving her a lollipop. Candy always helps kids be happy. The only thing that I had to pay for to get her ears pierced was the actual earrings. The piercing was free and it came with a solution that you have to clean the ear with three times a day.

Claire’s is a great place to shop for all your make up, and jewelry needs for a low cost. And it is a great place to shop for all little girls love for finger nail polish, princesses, jewelry, and dress up.

On South Broadway and Rice in Tyler, TX there rests a Starbucks. I love Starbucks. I’m not really sure why, but I do, I follow suit with most everyone else. And usually everyone is nice and inviting. No problems, easy come and go visit. But there was one occasion this past Halloween that didn’t meet my expectations. My friends and I had decided to dress up as the 12 disciples and Jesus and pose as the Last Supper painting that Da Vinci painted. We had a table, a huge picture frame and all were dressed for the part. It was quite wonderful and everyone thought it was great. WE have a reputation for doing things lavishly.

The year before we had dressed up as Noah’s Ark. 22 people, just as many different animals and HUGE cardboard Ark, painted and cut out. We had made up a song and everything. The year before that we were the nativity scene. Anyways… So here we are as The Last Supper. I guess the weekend before that part of out group had been at this Starbucks doing a pumpkin carving contest and everyone was dressed in costume. It was quite wonderful and fun. So these same friends thought it would be great to visit them again in our group costume.

Well… we drove up, got out of our cars, I must admit this might have looked scary with three cars pulling up and 14 Jesus looking people with boxes (our table) and a huge picture frame walking toward the door. But as we approached someone from the store met us at the door and told us we couldn’t come in, that we couldn’t bring boxes into the building. We were so confused because it was so random and they had just had a huge costume party basically so what was different about today? She kept saying it was company policy, no boxes could be brought in. All we could do was turn around and leave, we were so confused.

Well there is another Starbucks location on the way home and we had already told our friends working there that we would come in to show them our costume. So we headed over there. We went in, planted our selves in front of the registers and sang our song and everyone clapped and cheered. They loved it, customers and all. We asked them if there was such a rule as the other store so adamantly proclaimed but they had no idea about it, so we laughed it off.

I must say that every time I’ve been in the first location since I’ve had a guilty a conscience. I haven’t even done anything wrong, but I feel like they will make up another excuse to kick me out or something. Even though I know that isn’t true. The second Starbucks remains my favorite, they are the most easy going.

Unfortunately next year I’m not going to be living here anymore and I won’t be able to be in another group costume. I’m a bit sad about that. But I can’t wait to see the pictures! We rock Tyler.
