Marshalls is a store where you can find designer outfits, gorgeous shoes and exciting finds for the home, all at low cost.

Marshalls is a little more upmarket than Ross Dress for Less but they are run on the same principle. They buy in overstocks, end of ranges etc. from famous brands or designer labels for low prices and they pass the savings on to the customer.

A tip for getting the most out of Marshalls is to shop there regularly. You may visit Marshalls on one occasion and find nothing and go again and find something for every member of the family. And if you see something you like – jump on it quickly, you can be sure that it won’t be there next time you visit.

The things I buy most at Marshalls are shoes and sportswear for a very particular teenage boy. Firstly – shoes. They have a wonderful selection of adult and kids shoes and some are on clearance (look on the back wall). Beware with sizing though – some are European makes and the sizing is different.

You can nearly always find trendy labels for teenagers at lower cost at Marshalls – probably on average 40% lower than usual price. Not all sizes may be available in each style, you just have to hope you’re lucky.

Marshalls also has nice sleepwear and lingerie and accessories like purses, belts, hats and scarfs. I like buying baby clothes for baby gifts from Marshalls – you can look really extravagant by buying ‘expensive’ labels when in reality you have paid no more than if you made your purchase at Kohls. There are toys and books too, with extra discounts on items out of season or things with damaged boxes. The home décor section is worth a look. They have bedding, lighting and artwork plus a great selection of photo frames.

Finally, I notice that a lot of people chose to buy their perfume and cosmetics at Marshalls. You can also find unusual food gifts including some items from Europe.

I hope you enjoy your trip to Marshalls and that you have some lucky finds!

Fashion Metro in Tyler

January 18th, 2010

Fashion Metro is a very chic place to shop. The name fits the store …..very Metro. Clothes from all sizes and very nice in my opinion. They are located on Rt 64 West next to Wendy’s and Wal Mart’s I go there from time to time just to see what they have. In fact I went there today and they were having a pretty good sale I think. I spent $23 and ended up with four things from the store. Sales ranging from $3.99 per item to the most expensive one being $8. Nice huh, I thought so. Shoes are also available, the only draw back is that the smallest size is 7 and up. So for the ladies that have small feet…like me. We are out of luck and we have to go shopping for shoes next door to Payless. Even though I can’t find shoes there it’s still very nice and they have my style of clothes.

If you are a jewelry type of girl, than you are in for a treat…because they have all types of accessories and color and size or style you can imagine. Ladies if you are looking for a very nice looking undergarments for very good price…Fashion Metro has a variety of good undergarments and lingerie to make you look good for your husband. Purses galore, belts, watches and a very nice selection of children’s clothes. Don’t worry if you are not a size one they have something for everybody…even carry things for your man also.

If you haven’t had a chance to go in and shop at the Tyler location I would recommend that the next time you are around there, you stop in and look around the store. You might just find something you can’t go home without. Unfortunately it happens to me more than I would like to admit. Make sure you only take as much money that you won’t miss ….or you will do like me and spend it all.

Tyler Big Lots

January 12th, 2010

We have two locations in Tyler TX for Big Lots, one is off of Beckham and the other towards the mall. I love going to Big Lots because they have everything you could possibly need or want and the prices for the most part are reasonable, especially if you are looking for movies. Big Lots is the place because it’s the cheapest I have ever seen anywhere. They have movies ranging anywhere from $3 to $10 dollars. The new releases are the ones that cost a little more or if you find a series, that usually costs a little more. I once bought the series, Life Goes On, and I paid $4 dollars for it. That is just an example of the things that you can find there.

I also found little Christmas ornaments for a little tree that I have. They have food, clothes, personal needs, bedding, some furniture and many more things. I could not even start to list everything at Big Lots even if I wanted to because they have so many categories of things to buy there. The service for the most part is good. It is a place where if you are looking for a store where you could find some inexpensive gifts for someone, then I would suggest going to Big Lots. It is always a convenient thing to have a Big Lots around. Big Lots is usually surrounding other stores.

The store off of Beckham is next to the General Dollar Store and the Shoe Warehouse. The other one that is close to the mall on the South side is located by Michael’s, Pet Land, Dollar Store, and a Chinese Restaurant. You could definitely take a whole day to experience the bargains available at Big Lots. You would have your shopping, entertaining and food done all in one place.

Shoe Warehouse Factory

January 12th, 2010

Ladies if you are looking for shoes and for a reasonable price, then Shoe Warehouse is the place you are looking for. Shoe Warehouse is located off of Beckham close to T.J.C. I love to go there because they have a large variety of shoes and for a nice price I can afford most of the time.

Just this Christmas I went and found a pair of Ugh boots imitation for $20 dollars with heels, that’s a plus for me. I don’t think you would loose anything by going and checking the place out for yourself. They get new items in all the time and besides that the store is located around other stores like Big Lots and Dollar General so if you get done there and you are not done shopping yet, you can go next door and check all the other places out.

The shoes are in an ok condition. They probably won’t last as long as if you would pay $100-$200 for a pair of shoes but who has that kind of money anyways to spend on shoes? Even if you spend that much on a pair of shoes who is to tell you that it would last any longer than what a more expensive pair of shoes. I have bought several pair of shoes there for anywhere from $14-$30 dollars and it has lasted me for several years and some.

The ones I wear more often of course wear out sooner because I use them more than my other shoes. So if you are not caught up with the name brand and are looking for cute shoes at a reasonable price then I would go and see this place for myself. They have all types of shoes anywhere from casual, to classy and even sexy shoes. Yes there is such a thing as sexy shoes. I don’t mean that in any offensive way. They also have boots, flats, and sandals. They even have shoes for your husband and your children.

They often run pretty good sales. One time they had buy one pair of shoes and get the second one for a penny. A lot of the time they have shoes for $7-$10 on sale. So now that the stores are getting rid of winter stuff I bet you could go and find really good prices for boots and if you have plenty of boots you can probably find shoes for spring. I know that most women love shoes and love to own more than one pair or color or style. Next time you are looking for a pair of shoes remember that you once read somewhere that Shoe Warehouse might be the place you ought to go to see if they have the perfect shoes for you or anyone else who might be needing a pair. And no this won’t turn you into the next Cinderella it just might give you a new pair of shoes, minus the Prince Charming.

Hardware Stores in Tyler

October 15th, 2009

Anyone who has ever owned a project house understands the importance of having a local hardware store with knowledgeable employees who can dispense helpful advice. In Tyler we have two main “do it yourself” stores for all your ‘round the house and garden projects. They are of course Lowes and the Home Depot. People often assume the two national stores are essentially the same, but this is really not correct. Both in terms of their product and their target customers, the stores actually have some real differences.

The Home Depot

On the surface it’s hard to imagine that this store could be without anything needed by the home repair expert. However, the store really caters to the wants and needs of its more design oriented customers. The store stocks larger items that tend to effect the look and feel of a house, but when it comes to smaller essential items that make the things work, that make bigger, prettier things work, you may find yourself looking elsewhere.

My main beef with THD is the lack of competent customer assistance. Once while shopping in the giant store, my brother and his wife approached an employee to ask for assistance. They were told that the employee wished he could help them, but didn’t know where to find the item they were looking for, and unfortunately he didn’t know how to use a computer, (I’m not making this up, I promise). They were then treated to a ten minute rant about how the gentleman had once owned a computer, but didn’t like or understand it, so he gave it away. I realize this is an unusual example and there are things about the store I actually like, the home and garden section for example. My two year old little boy enjoys looking at the many mowers on display, (for someone who obsessed with mowers this is Six Flags). When it comes to big ticket items THD has an excellent selection, but the serious contractor or even DYI person however will probably end up making another stop.

Lowes

Lowes is Home Depot’s biggest competitor. It is large enough to carry many of the same high profile, attention grabbing products, but it also carries more of the smaller items with more specific uses. Lowes is less about marketing than its counterpart, and more about function. I do have one criticism of the Tyler Lowes, (at least the South Broadway location). The store often seems a little “Walmarty,” or at least “West Loop Walmarty.” For those who have yet to visit the West Loop Walmart, I’m referring to the store’s legendary reputation for sloppiness. I find that the South Broadway Lowes occasionally seems a bit disorderly as well. So if I had to choose between the two stores I would choose the latter in most cases. It seems to me to be a more practical store.

McCoy’s

I also wanted to mention one of my favorite hardware stores. McCoy’s is sometimes a bit more expensive than its larger rivals; however they do a lot more with a smaller building, (don’t forget they also have a lumber yard). McCoy’s is a real hardware store. They don’t have an appliance department, but they do have all the little parts you need to fix or install an appliance. As someone who is at best a home repair novice, and mind you, this may not be fair to novices, I can appreciate their helpful knowledgeable staff.
All of these stores carry many of the same items. If you know what you’re looking for they tend to be pretty similar. If on the other hand you require assistance with your project consider a more specialized store. Ultimately a bit of self education will save you a lot of frustration no matter where you shop.

Ace Ritter

This is a hardware and Tyler Texas home remodeling store that is also a co-op. One of the best things I have found in there lately has been these barbecue smokers that use compact wood pellets to smoke your meat. You can cook meat in these things but it will take atleast 45 min to fully cook your meat. The positive thing to using one of these smokers is the fact that you can’t burn your meat and you are not eating constantly eating cancer causing carcinogens like you would when using a gas or charcoal grill. I am all for gas and charcoal powered barbecue grills but if you are having cook outs every week at your house sometimes it’s worth the investment in going a little healthier. Ace Ritter also has your typical hardware supplies that you would find at Lowes and Home Depot but they carry unique things like the smoker that you can’t find anywhere else. Ace Ritter is also known as Ritter at Home and has only been in Tyler for a few years. For a new and unique experience visiting a hardware store be sure to stop by Ace for a change.
