Clair’s in the Mall

September 13th, 2010

Claire’s has been in the Broadway Square Mall for a long time. When you raise two extremely girlie girls that love dressing up, Claire’s is a frequent stop while shopping at the mall. My girls’ faces light up when they see the corner of fairy and princess accessories.

I can get all my kids’ dress up needs here at Claire’s. The walls are lined with tutus, princess crown, colorful jewelry, hair bows, and fairy wings. With Halloween just around the corner you can dress you kids up with the fun, colorful accessories.

Claire’s does not only have stuff for toddler girls, but for women of all ages. They have the newest styles and accessories. Claire’s has had sales pretty much every time I have gone into the store. Many times they have earrings for “buy one get one half off”. The store has all different style of necklaces, earrings, rings, and bracelets. You can get all different jewelry for a great price. Some of my favorite things in the store are the selections of bags, scarves, and hair accessories. They have all accessories to top off all of your outfits for every season of the year.

When I was really young I got my ears pierced at Claire’s, and I recently took my daughter to get her ears pierced there too. They pretty much do the same thing that they did when I got mine done. They sat her in a car and let her hug a teddy bear. A lady marked her ears with a purple marker just to make sure that they keep the earrings even with each other. I sat her on my lap just to make sure she did not jerk and to make sure that the lady did not miss the mark that she made. After the lady pierced my daughter’s ear, my daughter started crying, but the lady was fast at getting the second ear pierced even though she had to “re-load”. As the lady was doing the second ear, my daughter jerked, but the lady still pierced it on the right spot. After it was done my daughter was still crying so the lady helped calm her down by showing her how beautiful her ears were and by giving her a lollipop. Candy always helps kids be happy. The only thing that I had to pay for to get her ears pierced was the actual earrings. The piercing was free and it came with a solution that you have to clean the ear with three times a day.

Claire’s is a great place to shop for all your make up, and jewelry needs for a low cost. And it is a great place to shop for all little girls love for finger nail polish, princesses, jewelry, and dress up.

Halloween Costumes

Voodoo Halloween

Voodoo Halloween over by South Broadway Wal-Mart

About a month before Halloween you will see a couple different Halloween costume stores open up in Tyler.

One of these costume stores will be quite a bit cheaper than the other one. I recommend doing a little price comparison before settling on a costume to save a bundle.

I also noticed that there are quite a few Halloween costumes over by Super 1 Foods in the Dollar General Card and Party store.

The two Halloween stores show up at different spots each year based on what large square footage area is available for rent.

Last year the old Linens and Things building by Ross was used for one of these Halloween stores. What you see a lot of in both stores are the bedroom costumes.

What I mean by bedroom costumes are the catholic school girl outfits, the skimpy nurse, the mens extra short shorts UPS worker outfit, and the list goes on and on.

It can be pretty funny during the Halloween holiday as you see the teeny boppers walking around town in these bedroom outfits.

These kids “try to hard parents buy these costumes” for their kids sometimes so just maybe they will be seen as the “cool parent”. It’s amazing what parents will do to be accepted by their children these days.

This year rather than buying a bedroom costume for your already confused teenager I recommend giving them some face paint and have them decorate some of their old clothes.

If you want to buy a Halloween mask in Tyler Texas I recommend buying it online rather than purchasing in the store as it may come with some little kid boogers.

The first one of these Halloween costume stores in Tyler we have seen just popped up over by South Broadway Wal-Mart and it is called Voodoo Halloween. Go by and check it out.

Tyler TX Halloween stores typically open around Labor Day. (also Labour Day in Canada), but this varies by a week or two in either direction…4 September 2010

WalMart Confusion

August 2nd, 2010

When I walk into Tyler’s Wal-Mart, on the corner of the Loop and highway 64, I am greeted by a group of strange men just hanging out by the entrance. I get sick of these groups of guys that shout at woman to get their numbers. I can not believe girls would actually give these guys their numbers.

As I walk through the dirty store that always seems like the floor is sticky, I get run into a bunch of little kids running through the store with no parents in sight. I get frustrated and walk down to get a tube of toothpaste. As I grab a tube of tooth paste, a shirt is stuffed behind it. I go to get a few groceries and grab something to eat at the Deli.

Some woman sell barbeque chicken chunks with flies flying all around. Some chicken falls on the greasy dirty counter and they just grabbed it up and threw it back in the container with all the other food. I was really grossed out and decided not to eat there. There is a McDonalds connected to this Wal-Mart. I don’t think I would ever eat there.

It always looks really dirty and really greasy. This Wal-Mart is known to be very dangerous and be very careful if you go there, especially at night, when really strange people can not find a better place to hang out at 11:00 at night.

It seems like some of the most stuck up people drive around the Wal-Mart off of Broadway. I always get cut off while walking into the store. One time a car was waiting for me to load my bags of groceries into the car put my two babies into the car seats and buckle them in and put my cart away, just so they could get my spot.

I was trying to hurry to be nice and they kept honking and when I looked up at the driver I noticed that they were signaling for me to hurry up. Excuse me? They should just go find another place. Oh, and by the way, please do not park in the pregnancy parking unless you are pregnant.

So I hate going there because of all the rude people that shop there. But there isn’t any other Wal-Mart that is so convenient. I can just go right across the street to Target, or stay in the same parking lot and enjoy a great burger at Whataburger. The store inside is a lot cleaner than the Wal-Mart I formally talked of, but it always is so crowded.

Every time I go to check out it seems like they have about twenty lanes and maybe five are open. So there will be at least ten people in front of you with their baskets over flowing with stuff. So Wal-Mart, open a few more check-outs, will you?

My very favorite Wal-Mart in Tyler is the newest one on Troop Highway. It is the furthest for me but I think it is worth the drive. It is the largest Wal-Mart in Tyler and always the most orderly. The food always seems so much cleaner and even the people are nicer. The parking lot is larger so people can find their own parking space and don’t have to be so rude to park.

They have great furniture for babies. It is easy to register here because everything so organized compared to the other ones. The people are nicer because they don’t feel cramped into and over crowded store with rude strangers. The greeter is even nicer. Which I think greeters are so funny. What a great job. They are called “greeters” but honestly,  how often do they really greet you. Its like security. Security from all those strange pathetic people that shop lift. But that is off the point I am trying to make.

Troop Wal-Mart greeters actually tell people hello. But I don’t think they deal with as much shop lifting as the Wal-Mart off of highway 64. There is always police there. So if you need to go to Wal-Mart go to Troop, even if it is out of the way. They always seem to have more lanes open so it takes a lot less time to come in and get out.

I’m not the biggest fan of Wal-Mart, not like I use to be. But it is the one stop for all your needs and the prices are amazing. I can ever leave the store with out first checking out the five dollar movie rack, or the three dollar sales in the baby clothes section. Wal-Mart has a policy that they will not be under sold, so you are sure to find what you need or want at a  great price.

You will find everything for every room in your house and for your car. If you need a new bed spread or a new rug, if you need new furniture or television, you will always find it at Wal-Mart. Keep your eyes open for the seasonal selection at great prices and when it starts to becomes out of season look for amazing sales.

Have fun shopping with your kids in their toys section, I always have to take a walk down the pink aisle just to see what is new and what is on sale. So shop Wal-Mart to find off-brand and brand names at a great price, “always”.

First Monday Trade Days

July 22nd, 2010

Having just written about one Canton area business I thought I’d go ahead, take the plunge and discuss another. First Monday Trade Days has definitely made that town world famous for its monthly open air flea market. According to what I’ve read, the market actually began in the eighteen fifties. The timing coincided with the monthly arrival of a circuit riding judge who visited the county once a month. Naturally this became a good opportunity for farmers, craftsmen, Horse traders and livestock salesmen to market their wares. Of course with so large a crowd gathering every month, local dignitaries and politicians found it impossible to resist the opportunity for a stump speech or campaign stop. Nearly every conceivable animal, rifle, pistol, article of jewelry, pet etc. has been traded or sold at Canton over the years. But by far the weirdest story I’ve ever read can be found in the cities histories. In the nineteen forties, two couples (who had become entirely too close by all accounts) decided to trade each other. Yes, that’s correct, they went to the district clerk’s office, and traded spouses! As technology increased and changed the sale grew and grew, so that today half the town is made up of the fairgrounds. I’d wager that the town population doubles for four days, every first weekend of the month

I recall visiting the market with friends and family occasionally as child. The most prized item I purchased there was a “survival knife,” which had my survival actually depended on that finely honed and balanced instrument, I would have lasted about an hour and a half at best. That being said, I can say with some emphasis that this event is not for me! I know I know… If you love wheeling and dealing or consider yourself a modern day horse trader or salesman, you’re probably rolling your eyes at me right now. But I hate to shop. What’s more, I hate to shop in the heat. Don’t misunderstand, I love the outdoors if we’re talking about camping or fishing, but for me, combining shopping with the East Texas summer heat is the stuff of nightmares. Beyond that I hate to shop for things I don’t need, or cannot afford to purchase. Don’t worry, next time I’m in the market for an alpaca to hug, I’ll head for Canton, until then I’ll just hang out… somewhere else.

Ok, all snobbery aside I realize the market really is a good place for farmers and ranchers in particular to buy and sell what they need. And the dollars brought in by First Monday are good for everyone around here, so yes, the monthly event serves a purpose. Nowhere else, can such a large variety of stuff be found gathered in such a small area, all for sale! Have a wonderful time rummaging, just please don’t ask me to go. For those interested in vendor lists of if you just want to read more try the City of Canton’s webpage, www.firstmondaycanton.com. Also try http://shopfirstmondaycanton.com.  The next Trade Days weekend is scheduled for Thursday, July twenty ninth, through Sunday, August first.

Marshalls in Tyler Texas

July 6th, 2010

Marshalls sells top brand clothes at low end prices. In the commercials a sales woman had trouble with the language barrier and orders a thousands shirts instead of a hundred. Marshals buys the extra clothes at a low price and resell them cheap.

Marshalls in Tyler is a lot like another store I shop at here in Tyler, Ross. Though Ross’s women’s clothing selection is larger, Marshalls is a lot cleaner and it is easier to find what you are looking for. The women clothing section is not as large as many stores in the Tyler area, but they always have new selections and great prices. They also have a large selection of purses that are mainly leather. Not liking leather I am not a fan of Marshalls’s selection.

I really like the children’s clothing section in this store because the sizes are in order and there are not a ton of clothes on the floor. Marshalls prices are great! The prices are probably the thing I like the most about this store. Little children grow so fast, it seems like an outfit can fit my children for about six months then I am getting rid of it. It is easy to blow money on your children’s clothes, Marshalls helps with this by offering both quantity and quality at great prices.

Like Tyler’s store Ross, Marshalls has a pretty big shoe department; but unlike Ross you do not have to dig through the shoes on the floor to find a match. Marshalls has a great selection of brand name shoes like Skechers. It is so much easier to shop when you do not have to search the whole store for the left match to a pair of shoes.

The store has a great selection of wall décor, frames, mirrors, and furniture. I always like to look at the trunks at the store. Some times they have the prettiest art work, and iron wall décor.

Marshalls is much cleaner than other stores in Tyler, but you may not be able to have as much of a selection, but each piece of clothing is designer pieces. You can redecorate your house and get new furniture at the lowest price possible.
