Kirby Vacuum Cleaner Salesmen in Tyler

February 21st, 2012

It seems like an odd job to be a door to door vacuum cleaner salesman. It’s an over-priced item and the salesman has to basically barge in the door to get someone to listen to his spill. I’m sure after the salesman barges in, no one has a positive attitude about buying the product.

If you’ve lived in Tyler long enough I’m sure you have experienced a Kirby vacuum cleaner salesman knocking on your door. So I’m curious what your response was. Please leave a comment of your story. I had an interesting story of the Tyler Kirby salesman.

I answered the door after a very LOUD knocking. There were two guys at the door. One guy started speaking a million miles an hour of how he could come in and clean my house for free and I could receive a free stain remover spray bottle. I told them that I had wood floors and my dad has a huge commercial carpet cleaner so I would not be buying a vacuum from them.  I’m not really sure why but for some reason I felt like it’d be rude to say no. His pleading of letting him just give his spill and vacuum my house was somehow convincing.

Once he got the vacuum in my house the other guy took off somewhere. I reminded him that I wouldn’t be buying one but he insisted that was fine.
He started to vacuum my wood floor under the couch and all around the living room then removing these paper circles and looking at me with a weird expression. What was I supposed to say “oh no! There’s dust in my house! I’m going to die!”

Maybe this really gets to people. Maybe some people are shocked to see a vacuum cleaner remove dirt from under their couch. I know my house is dirty. Whoopty doo!

He said “you wouldn’t want to give birth in a hospital with this much dust”. I told him actually I wouldn’t mind having a home birth. I think he wanted to freak me out by finding a bunch of dirt. He vacuumed the curtains which were clean but when he vacuumed the top of the ceiling fan he found dust and was showing me how dirty it is. It’s not like buying this vacuum is going to make my house cleaner. My ceiling fan was dirty because I didn’t clean it not because I didn’t have a Kirby.

I do have carpet in my bedroom but I wasn’t comfortable with a strange man going into my bedroom. He asked me what I thought was the place with the most germs. I said under our fingernails. He said it was the mattress. I told him that he couldn’t go into the bedroom and he said then he couldn’t show me. He had a magnified picture of a dust mite. He explained that dust mites live in my house and poop in my mattress. I just responded by telling him that I love to eat dust mite poop when I go to bed because it boosts my immune system. I sensed that he didn’t like my sarcasm.

He showed me all the impressive things about the Kirby that is unlike any other vacuum cleaner, such as: it is metal and not plastic so it would last longer, it is more powerful than other vacuums (it could lift up the rug), the suction comes from the middle instead of the side, etc.

He told me that I could have the vacuum for “only a dollar a day” which is basically the same as buying a soda at the gas station. Hmmm a dollar a day that’s 30 bucks a month. That’s a lot of money for a vacuum. I don’t want to be making payments on a vacuum cleaner. I got on my computer and showed him that it sells for a lot less online but he said that those were either stolen or used. He said that I didn’t want a used vacuum because that’s just like using someone else’s toothbrush.

Well eventually my new baby started to get hungry and I needed to nurse. I told him that he needed to leave now. He tried to push the sell on me and I reminded him that I said that I wasn’t going to buy it. He called the other guy and they both tried to put a guilt trip on me because they did this presentation and supposedly even cleaned my house and I’m not buying it and the poor guy has to make a living off his commissions. The other guy pointed out that we pay for dish so we have the money to pay for this Kirby. Give me a break! This guy was starting to get on my nerves and my baby was getting hungry. He asked to use the restroom and I showed him where it was. After he came out, he was just looking around my house. I basically had to kick them out of my house.

So what do you do when the Kirby man comes a knocking on your door? I’m thinking the next time they come I just won’t answer the door.

The Childrens Place

October 25th, 2010

Even with all the crowds, all of the annoying salesmen, and all the weird smells, the mall is worth going to when you have small children for only a couple stores, one being, The Children’s Place. I love to go to The Children’s Place just about anytime of the year.

They are always setting the newest trends in the children’s fashion world. For some reason it seems that when girls get to be around six or seven it is hard to find cute appropriate clothes. The thing I love about The Children’s Place is that their clothing for older girls is very cute, colorful, and modest.

Here you can actually find dresses and skirts for your daughter that is at least to her knees, that se will be happy to wear.

I wish that The Children’s Place did registrations. I would have registered there with each one of my pregnancies. The baby and toddler clothing selection is some of my favorite clothes that I can find anywhere. Most of the times that I go to The Children’s place I usually walk out with at least something for my daughters.

Not only does The Children’s Place have cute clothes for little girls, but they have a great selection for little boys. I love the little Polo shirts that are for toddler boys. They have all colors and sizes. Here you can find cute jeans for both boys and girls of all ages, for a great price.

The Children’s Place is definitely the best addition that has come to the Broadway Square mall. I really love this store. You can shop there for any season of holiday that is coming up. You can get your children outfits for Easter, Christmas, or even fun Halloween costumes.

Energy Jewelry Snake Oil or Miracle?

September 12th, 2010

Cie Aura

Cie Aura

I have been amazed, and admittedly annoyed by the energy bracelet scam. It seems every few months some ugly new jewelry product is unveiled that promises to in some way harmonize the energy of the wearer, and promote greater balance, increased energy, a generally more tranquil mind, and so forth and so on. Actually, one reviewer I read made an excellent point. The advertisers don’t promise those results directly, but instead promise to inspire those results! I watched a lot of promo vids for these things on YouTube. Eventually I had to stop for a couple of reasons. First off, I actually do have a life. Secondly, I was starting to become annoyed by the research subjects and lastly, and most importantly, the demos are all the same! Evidently these energy jewelers are at least partially multi- level managed. The vids all featured some salesmen who had set up a both at some job fair or other, performing ridiculous and absurd balance tests on passersby.

Magnetic Bracelets

Magnetic Bracelets

I found about five different companies producing energy jewelry, or at least five different names for the same company. In addition to a bracelet and necklace, one company offered holographic stickers (Cia Aura) it claimed possessed some kind of magnetic charge. These are supposedly a favorite of surfers who stick them to either end of their boards to help improve their balance. Allegedly the water passing over the stickers recharges their energy. I understand aspiring golfers are also partial to this product. As I watched these compelling infomercials my next question became: Do people really buy these things?! While researching for this article I did find comments by supposedly satisfied customers defending the products, but of course I have no way knowing that they didn’t work for one of the companies marketing the stuff. Patrons claimed results like increased energy and the disappearance of aches and pains. Certainly the degree to which they did experience a change can be chalked up to the placebo effect. Thanks but I think I’d rather take my chances with a television faith healer! As silly as I find the Snuggy, I’m pretty sure it probably does what the ads say it does; keep the wearer warm, and allow him or her to move their arms freely. I do not however come anywhere near believing any of the claims made by the energy jewelers. If you’re looking for an energy boost, greater balance or a sense of well being I suggest trying an energy drink, vitamin supplement and regular church attendance. I’m sure you’ll be amazed by the results!

Radio Shack in Tyler Texas

August 5th, 2010

When it comes to electronics I will be the first to admit that I really do not know what I am doing in the store. I do not know the differences between brand name computers. When I have to shop for my electronic-loving husband, I really have to go to a store with people that do not look at me crazy when I ask what the point of the HDMI cable is. Radio Shack’s staff has helped me many times when I feel lost and confused. Radio Shack has all different electronics for your home, office and for your car. If you are like me the GPS is one of the greatest inventions lately. I have lived in Tyler my whole life and still need directions to get across town. With a GPS you can get turn by turn directions to you destination. It makes traveling less stressful and frustrating.

At Radio Shack you can find the newest and best phones for the top mobile phone services. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, and Nextel are offered here. If you are looking for the best service for your area and the best deal for your money, Radio Shack will help you find the best phone and service. CDs are becoming a thing of the past, and Radio Shack is leading this change by helping people purchase iPods and MP3 players and accessories. You can get anything from car chargers to colorful covers and cases.

If you are not like me and know how to take apart a computer and put it back together blind folded, you probably have an even bigger appreciation for Radio Shack. You can find all different kinds and sizes fuses, LEDs, wires, miniature bulbs, and component parts. The staff is very knowledgeable when it comes to all these different parts and tools. So when I am trying to find a gift for my husband at Radio Shack, I can trust the salesmen to know what is the best thing to get him.

You can get great gifts at Radio Shack such as digital cameras and camcorders. You can get the best brand name cameras starting at $50 up to $800. You can get a camera that is small and can fit in your pocket, to a large and professional camera. You can get all the things that you need with your camera and camcorders, such as memory cards, miniature printers and even digital photo frames.

Grown men can turn into little kids again with the Radio Shack toys such as game consuls, toy cars, video games, and hobby projects and kits. They carry Wii and Playstation games and consuls. The newest Playstation 3, Wii, Nintendo portable, and Playstation portable are some of the best gifts that you could get someone. Many times Radio Shack is having sales in the paper or online for these consuls. The hobby kit is something fun t do with your kids as they learn how electronics work. Each kit comes with all the parts to build your craft and easy to follow step by step directions.

I know that I did not list all the products that are sold at Radio Shack. You can find so many things that are needed for everyday life, school, work, your car, and purely entertainment. It is always nice to have people that are willing to help you find what you are looking for no matter if you know what you are looking for or if you have no idea.

Lacks Home Furnishings

August 4th, 2010

Shopping for new bedroom furniture set is not the easiest or cheapest thing to shop for. As I shopped around one of the first places that I went to was Lacks Home Furnishings. Once I walked into the store I was bombarded by saleswomen, like a lioness after her prey. I may have taken three steps into the store until I noticed women half way running up to me. Once I told the sales woman that I was looking for a nice bedroom set I had explained to her that I like dark furniture and am partial towards the more modern look, she was able to right away show me the perfect set. Lacks really had a great selection of full bedroom sets that met the style that I was looking for, but that seemed to be the most popular style in the store.

Most furniture was pretty expensive, but all home furnishing is expensive pretty much any where that you go. It seems like I am always seeing commercials for sales going on at Lacks. They also have a no-interest for 18 months summer sale going on with a minimum of $1800.  Many times they have really good sales if you are buying whole room sales. I do not know why anyone would pay full prices for a furniture set at Lacks, if you wait a couple months than you probably could get what you want for a much lower price.

Lacks has some beautiful furniture for dinning room, living room, and bedroom. They also sell Whirlpool appliances for your kitchen, and Whirlpool, Amana, and Maytag washer and dryers. I do not really recommend buying electronics from Lacks. They have the LG brand televisions and sound systems. The salesmen seem like they know a lot about bedroom furniture, dinning room tables, and living room sets; but when it came to electronics they really did not know what the best choices were.

Most of the furnishings at Lacks are high quality and extremely well made. If you are looking at their lower priced items or their marked down items I recommend that you should double check drawers and cabinet doors to make sure that they work properly and will not fall off. The cheapest bedroom set that I looked at appeared nice but the dresser drawers would get stuck and easily fall out. I was pretty disappointed in the quality of the furniture and I felt like it was one of the sets that was way over priced.

No matter what room you are remodeling in your house you can find beautiful furniture that will mirror your taste and personality. They even have the southern style furniture with the over-done Texan Star carved in the foot board and dresser. You can also find the newest lines of mattresses that is best for your comfort. Salesmen and women are more than ready to help you re-furnish your house.
