Wal-Mart’s Toyland

November 14th, 2010

Every year the most popular toys change and it seems like they get more expensive. I think that the easiest place to Christmas shop is Wal-Mart. They have all the newest toys at a cheaper price than Target or Toys R Us. This year three huge kid’s movies came out on video and along with the videos came a whole line of toys. Wal-Mart has a huge selection of “Toy Story 3” toys, “How to Train Your Dragon” toys, and “Beauty and the Beast” toys.

Toy Story action figures and toys are one of the biggest hits for the 2010 Christmas year. Wal-Mart has Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jesse, and Rex dolls for the lowest price around. These dolls talk or roar. Wal-Mart has the entire Toy Story action figure for five dollars. These action figures are a great stocking stuffer! Kids of all ages will have fun playing Toy Story 3 board games.

How to train your dragonHow To Train Your Dragon movie and toys have become one of the top items on little boy’s Christmas list. Wal-Mart has cheap action figures, play sets, and even Viking dress up toys. Your kids will love the large action figures of the fire-breathing Night Fury. More exciting toys that are the most popular for young boys are Bakugan toys, awesome Star Wars The Clone War action figures, Transformer action figures, and all your boy need to become Iron Man. Stinky the Garbage Truck quickly became a huge hit. Target, Wal-Mart, and Toys R Us display Stinky and show off his awesome tricks. Wal-Mart sales Stinky for at least ten dollars less than both Target and Toys R Us.

For young children and toddlers the most important thing now a day is what a child can learn from a toy. Wal-Mart sells the two most popular toddler toy brands; Playskool and Fisher-Price. These toys are great to help your kids learn how to crawl, walk, talk, and play. Your little children will love all the Nick Jr. and Disney toys. The dancing, moon walking, singing, and shaking Dance Star Mickey Mouse just might become as popular as the “tickle me Elmo” from about ten years ago. Dora the Explorer dolls are always a big hit for young girls. The two most popular dolls this Christmas season are the Singing Birthday Dora and We Did It Dora. Your young girls can learn about each season with the Dora Window Surprise Dollhouse.

You most likely have seen the many commercials for the popular “Your Baby Cant Read” products. The different sets of books DVDs and flash cards teach your baby different words as they are growing up. The salesmen recommend you start this process before the age of three. Simply a word or short phrase is placed on the television screen and then you will see some one doing what the word or phase said, such as the phrase “arms up” or if the word was “dog” you will see a dog. Wal-Mart just started to carry the “Your Baby Can Read” package for less than half the price that is asked for over the television commercials.

Two more popular brands of educational toys are Leap Frog and Vtech. Leap Frog came out with the new way to explore books, Tag. With Tag your child can simply place the pointer onto a Tag book and the pointer with read what is on the page. There are many different Tag books for both boys and girls.

Leap Frog also have the held hand learning system, Explorer Learning Experience. It has over 4 fun video games that are all extremely educational. Vtech has many different games, books and toys that are very education for children of all ages. Young toddlers can have fun with the Vtech 3 in one learning scooter and ride-a-long, and the Vtech light up bath toys. The Vtech V-reader will help your kids sound out words as they learn to read. There are many selections of “E-books” with popular characters such as Dora the Explorer, Toy Story’s Woody and Buzz, and the Disney princesses.

Nothing is more exciting to a young girl than the pink aisle in the toy section of Wal-Mart. Coming to theater soon is the movie Tangled. Wal-Mart has all the Tangled toys, such as; Rapunzel Sparkle Princess fashion Doll, Rapunzel Braiding Friends hair Braider, Rapunzel Wedding Gift Set, and even the Disney Rapunzel Fairytale Tower. Barbie have been around and loved for generations. Wal-Mart has a large selection of Barbie dolls. The newest exciting thing is the Barbie 3-Story Dream Townhouse. Each floor has great furniture for bedrooms, living rooms, bathrooms, and kitchens.

Disney fairies have all the fun toys to bring them into an imaginary world. You can get anything from light up fairies to dresses that a little girl can dress up as a fairy. The Disney Fairies Tinker Bell’s Talking Café is on sale at Wal-Mart. The Café sound all different effects, songs, and actual voices from the movie. The café includes 17 different accessories. Dance Supply Store

Dance and Drill Tyler Texas

Dance and Drill

When my daughter first started to take dance classes at Cassie’s School of Dance in Whitehouse I did not know where to go to get the shoes and clothes that she needed. My daughter’s dance instructor told me to go to Dance N Drill which it near Toys R Us. I did not know what exactly I was doing or which tap shoes I had to get.

Since the store only sold dancing supplies I was really surprised that the prices were very reasonable and comparable to Target’s, Payless’s, or Academy’s dance supplies. All the frill and colors of the dancing outfits quickly caught my daughter’s eye. I do not think that anyone wants to be a beautiful princess ballerina more than a three year old girl. The staff that worked there gave special attention to my daughter. They sized her feet and found the perfect tap shoes. I was so impressed that they made this experience special for her. I had already gotten her ballet shoes from Academy and her out fits from Target, and realized that the dance supply store at Dance N Drill has a bigger selection for close to the same prices.

If you are like me and are new to the dance world than I recommend making Dance N Drills store your one stop, so you are not running all over Tyler looking for all the right things.

Helpless in Target

March 29th, 2010

Target is one of my very favorite stores here in East Texas. It is one of the best stores to buy clothes and to register for wedding and baby showers. But as I walked through the store to the electronic department I was in a hurry.

I am pretty clueless when it comes to understanding electronics. And I was in need to buy my husband a HD cable. I had no idea what that was. I knew that it was a cable that you stuck into your television. I walked over to the “help” desk and waited for a employee to come to the desk. Two employees walked by the desk and when they saw me, they tried to not make eye contact. Usually I would of just searched the store until I actually found someone that was willing to do their job, but for the sake of this articles, I waited for someone to actually try to help me. Finally a young boy came up to the desk and I asked him to help me. He looked around for someone else to do his job. His lack of excitement to be at work was completely off putting, and to be blunt, annoying.

I asked him where I can find HD cables. He pointed in a general direction and told me they were “over there”. So, at this point I was extremely frustrated with the young kid. I told him that I really had no idea what I was looking for or what kind of cable I should use. He looked at me like I was retarded and told me he was going to get someone to help me. It would take more time to find someone to come over and show me, than to just show me himself. He grabbed his walkie-talkie and asked for some woman to come over to electronics. I asked him if he worked in this department. Apparently you can work in the electronics department but with manly video games and televisions. He grabbed the phone and called an outgoing line right in front of me. I was beyond annoyed by the rudeness of the employee. A woman came up to me and ask what I needed help. I told her that I just needed to be shown where the HD cables were at and which one I should use. She walked me over to the next aisle. About twenty feet. Really? He could not walk me over twenty feet? I grabbed the cable that I needed and left the store disappointed and frustrated. If you don’t know what you are looking for when it comes to the electronic selection, do not go to Target.

Target Super Market in Tyler Texas

February 5th, 2010

TARGET

7003 S. Broadway Ave
Tyler TX, 75703
Phone #: 903 939 1900
Opening hours: Mon-Sat 8am-10pm
Sun 8am – 9pm

Target stores are nationwide department stores which sell clothing, shoes, jewelry, health and beauty products, electronics, CD and DVDs, bedding, kitchen items, sporting goods, toys, pet food, automotive supplies and hardware. They also carry seasonal merchandise such as patio furniture during the summer and a large selection of decorations for every budget at Christmas. Tyler Target also has a pharmacy and a photo center.

As you enter Target the first thing that hits you is the delicious smell of popcorn. There is a small café on the right of the store as you enter. On the left is a budget area where you can buy seasonal items like toys and party favors for a dollar. Once you pass this you are entering the clothing department. The fashions are low priced and subsequently, low quality, but are still very popular. The lingerie and sports wear include brand names and are reasonably priced. Target also stocks quite a selection of bags and accessories plus some jewelry.

The housewares and home décor sold by Target are much more attractive than those sold at Walmart. Their team of designers are brilliant at making the ordinary look cool and contemporary. There is an extensive toy and game department and well-stocked baby section. Target is a favorite for baby and wedding gift registries.  You can print registry lists on dedicated red computers just inside the door.

The food sold at Target is limited but they do have their own brand of foodstuffs called Archers Farm which are great quality and in general, of high nutritional value. They have regular discounts on these items and details of these and other offers can be found in their weekly circular newspaper. In addition Target have their own brand of toiletries and household consumables – now called ‘Up and up’ (look for the white labels with arrows) – they claim to compare to the best selling brands and are usually at least 10% cheaper. Look for orange colored price labels throughout the store for clearance prices.

Finally, Target has a selection of cards and party goods for all occasions at a range of prices, and a photo center near the exit. If you use an internet service like Shutterfly you can order prints online and pick them up at Target.

One negative thing about Target is their return policy. They are only required to take things back with a receipt – even if the item is labelled as a Target exclusive. The moral of the story is that you should always keep your receipts and ask for a gift receipt if you are buying presents for someone else.

Target.com is a good place to look for bargains and they have things that are not always available in store. However, you need to watch for shipping costs – there is no ‘site to store’ free shipping which is such a bonus at Walmart.com.

Target sells such a wide variety of goods that they are the biggest seller of giftcards in the USA. We bought some for our nephews and nieces at Christmas and were impressed to find cards that light up and sing for the recipients! They are always well received…

Rega of Paris

Rega of Paris

6722 S Broadway
Tyler TX
75703

www.regaofparis.com

Rega of Paris is a furniture consignment store in South Tyler (in the shopping area opposite Target and behind Don’s)
I first visited there when we moved here and we needed basic furniture to fill our house but I still go there occasionally now as it is such a great place to shop and you can find all sorts of nice quality and unique items for the home there.

Rega is a more upscale consignment store and has antiques as well as good quality furniture. They also consign smaller items like crockery, art work and bits and pieces for the home.

The owners will manage estate sales for you and will pick up (and deliver) items you buy or consign for a small fee. Sellers get just 50% of the selling price but as Rega is a popular shop the chance that your item will hang around unsold for long is pretty unlikely – so you will get your money fast.

The inventory changes regularly at Rega as there seems to be a fast turnover of goods. They even have a website where you can view the new arrivals and this is updated fairly frequently.

I am not usually a fan of second hand furniture stores (it fills me with visions of old folk and the smell of cat pee!) but Rega is very different. They only take the nicest pieces of furniture in good clean condition. Having had a few bad experiences with cheap furniture I now think it is better to buy something of better quality and style second hand than risk having something that falls apart after a year or so.

Rega of Paris is open Tuesday thru Saturday 10am – 5.30pm
