My Favorite Tyler Pizza Place

September 5th, 2012

As a big sports fan, I typically prefer to watch my teams from the comfort of my own living room. This way, I can pause and rewind the games, get up and come back as I please without missing anything and not have to worry about where I’m at and who’s around to hear and see me react when something good or bad happens.

However, there are two alternatives for places to go other than home to watch the game in Tyler. The first is at Buffalo Wild Wings and the second is Double Daves Pizzaworks.

It’s no-wonder why Double Dave’s slogan is “Wings, beer, sports.” When you go, you’re paying for good food and a great atmosphere.

The best time to go to Buffalo Wild Wings is during football season on a Sunday afternoon. Every TV (and they have many) is tuned to one of the many NFL games and you don’t have to miss a thing. When one game is one a commercial break, you can simply turn your head and watch another game since you have several options.

Another slogan for Buffalo Wild Wings is “You have to be here,” and you’re a sports fan, it’s an atmosphere you have to experience at least once. Pick a game, any game. It can be your favorite team playing or the prime time game of the week.

While you’re there try out the many flavors of wings, beer and sports (sure, sports can have a favor, you just have to be there to experience it.)

Double Dave’s is one also on my list for favorite places to go to watch the game and eat. If you’re talking favorite overall place, it comes in third, after my living room and Buffalo Wild Wings.

The best time to go to Double Dave’s is during lunch for the buffet but honestly, there’s no wrong time. The pepperoni rolls are incredible and unlike anything else you’ve ever had and they have a wide range of different types of pizza, and of course, big screen TVs showing the biggest game taking place. What’s not to like?

As football season approaches, something to consider is to go during a Sunday or Monday night game. That’ll really make you ready.

Chuck E Cheese Coupons verses Just Going to CiCi’s For Even Cheaper

October 5th, 2011

Here is a CiCi’s coupon good until Oct 9 2011: Click here

Chuck E Cheese pizza in Tyler is one of those places many believe Tyler is so lucky to have. I have been to Chuck E Cheese in 2011 5 times so far and this has been 5 times too many. When I was a child living in Wichita Falls Texas my parents pretended the place was not even there and I totally understand why. Now as an adult I feel like sound pollution from this pizza place is a form of torture but yet I still take my kids here sometimes because I know they love it but yet they love the Chick Fila kids play area and the Cici’s arcade just as much. So why do I or any of us have to be tortured by the big mouse robot? Honestly the mouse is pretty cool but like I said the noise is too much for even my son. If you are one of those that likes this loud kids arcade you can save a lot of money by getting their online coupons but you can get by cheap and still have fun at Cici’s too with coupon even.

If you want Chuck E Cheese coupons just go straight to their website as they offer them right there. You don’t even have to print the coupons as you can pull it up on your phone and show the employees from your phone as we have done this numerous times.

For a better idea why not save money instead by choosing Cici’s pizza. The pizza is better, it is not as loud, and kids under 3 eat free.

As a kid I loved the mouse and I often got confused regarding if the robot mouse was alive and just very still because he would sometimes roam around greeting kids. As an adult I am not confused about Chuck E Cheese, I know what mouse is robot and what mouse is a pizza guy. I still love the mouse but I don’t like how loud and crazy it is.

The only downside to going to CiCi’s is not having a robot mouse and greeter and not having the awesome playground area. I think your kids will still have a lot of fun going to CiCi’s instead as I have seen no complaints from my nieces, nephews, and my own kids.

If you must still go to Chuck E Cheese you can access their coupons on your phone here: http://www.chuckecheese.com/coupons/ You must select your city and click on Submit or simply use the coupons from the Tyler Texas area…they should work pretty much anywhere: Tyler TX Chuck E Cheese Coupons

Little Caesar’s on 31 and SW Loop 323 in Tyler, TX

February 1st, 2010

Little Caesar’s

510 S Southwest Loop 323
Tyler, TX 75702
(903) 592-7373

This Little Caesar’s pizza restaurant is specifically designated as a Hot & Ready business. This means that they have a few items that are always prepared and still hot as long as they are open. The standard Hot & Ready item is the large pepperoni pizza for less than six dollars. I believe it is five fifty. They also usually have one or two plain cheese pizzas available hot and ready for the same price. The more interesting items they have ready to take are hot wings, which come in different levels of spice, their famous “Crazy Bread” with sauce, and cheesy bread sticks. They are also able to make pizzas with other standard toppings to order and to make tons of pizzas if you call in before or are willing to wait.

This little pizza restaurant probably gets more of my money in the average month than any other food establishment in Tyler. This is because the food is amazing and the price is perfect. I am a bit of a pizza fanatic. I tell people that I could eat pizza every meal for the rest of my life, which wouldn’t be that long on a diet like that, and I am not lying. I love pizza, and when it comes to eating pizza affordably in Tyler I choose this Little Caesar’s. The taste and texture quality are unlike any other pizza place I’ve experienced. I think they do a perfect sauce and crust, but the most impressive thing about this Little Caesar’s pizza is the cheese. They put a huge amount of cheese on each pizza and then cook it perfectly to where there is a slight crisp.

The cool thing is that they offer this for just over five dollars. That is the same price as a single meal at a standard fast food restaurant, and one pizza is enough for my wife and I to eat dinner and usually have leftovers. We also get them for their convenience. Hot & Ready means we don’t have to cook, and we don’t even have to wait. I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve had to wait more than five minutes for my food, and that was most often just because there were a few customers in front of me. It’s great for entertaining last minute house guests and family during an impromptu hangout.

It’s worth noting that they also have combo deals where you can grab a previously cooled two liter Pepsi product soda. They even have Pepsi Zero and diet Mountain Dew for all of those healthier pizza eaters out there. They also have combos that include “Crazy Bread” or hot wings. These combos are around ten dollars each and are definitely worth it when you consider the convenience and incredible taste and quality.

The last thing I’d like to note is that this location has some of the sweetest staff of any business in Tyler. They are pretty much all young people who seem happy to work there. Maybe pizza makes everyone else smile like me, or maybe their manager just knows how to pick employees and train them in customer service. I’ve gone so many times, that I’m almost starting to become friends with the cashiers. They may not remember me, but they make me feel so comfortable and valued that I remember them and recommend them to my friends and family. If you need a quick snack or want a break from cooking, swing by Little Caesar’s Hot & Ready on the South West end of Loop 323 where it meets with Highway 31.

Cici’s Pizza Store in Tyler, TX over by Wal-Mart on 64

February 1st, 2010

211 Texas 323 Loop
Tyler, TX 75702-8727
(903) 526-9494‎
Hours 11AM-11PM

Cici’s Pizza is located on the West side of Loop 323 near the Brookshire’s and Starbucks. It is easy to get to and turn into the parking lot. Leaving can be a real challenge if you need to turn left as there is only one exit, and it is sitting directly on Loop 323 which is very busy at all hours of the day. I often have to turn right and do a u-turn to get home.

The most important part of a pizza restaurant is how the pizza tastes and compares to other pizza places. Cici’s is wonderful pizza. It is not on par with expensive pizza restaurants, but for its price range it does really well. You can pay five dollars for a large one topping pizza. I do this often for dinner for my family and when we have friends over last minute. I call ahead and order my pizzas then drive up right to the window. It’s the only pizza place I’ve ever known to have a drive up take out window. When these five dollar pizzas are hot, they are very impressive in taste and texture. When we get Cici’s takeout we usually order either a large with just pepperoni or a large with just green peppers. If you’ve never had a green peppers pizza, try it at Cici’s. You’ll have to order it special since it isn’t a standard pizza on the buffet.

As for the buffet, I think you’ll be impressed. I’ve heard people joke about how horrible Cici’s pizza buffet is, but I think they are just making it up. It is very affordable. The buffet is about five dollars per person, and then drinks are a little over a dollar for a fountain drink or tea. Maybe the price makes Cici’s seem too good to be true. But I think that is just it. I don’t know how it’s possible to offer such great food for so cheap and make it all you can eat to boot.

The buffet starts with a very nice but small salad bar. You have the choice of Caesar salad or a standard tossed salad with about eight different extra toppings and about four different salad dressings. We always get a Caesar with Caesar dressing, and we’ve never been disappointed. Then there is a pasta section. Here you can get pasta with either red sauce or a creamy alfredo sauce. There are also cheese covered bread sticks here. A little tip: fill a bowl with red sauce from this section and dip your crust or bread sticks into it.

Then comes the pizza. This is when I begin to really smile. They have all of the standard pizzas: pepperoni, sausage, hamburger, mushroom, cheese, Hawaiian pineapple and ham. I especially love their sausage pizza. But the cool thing about Cici’s is that they have way more than the traditional pizzas. They have at least four or five specialty pizzas that you can only get at Cici’s. My favorite is a buffalo wing pizza. It uses buffalo hot wing sauce instead of pizza sauce, bits of chicken and mozzarella cheese. It is incredible if you like the hot wing flavor. Then they have their popular creamy spinach pizza. This one uses alfredo sauce instead of red sauce. They also have a barbeque pizza, a taco pizza, and a cheese steak pizza. I usually get lots of the spinach and buffalo pizza. It seems like each of my friends and family has a different favorite of these specialty pizzas.

Next at the bar comes the dessert section. These desserts are amazing. I’ve never heard people complain about the dessert at Cici’s Pizza. They have something for everyone. There are basic chewy brownies covered in powdered sugar. There is usually some kind of super sweet apple crumble coffee cake, and then there is this thing that I am not sure what to call it. It is shaped like the cheesy bread sticks, but the consistency is like a donut or a beignet. Then it is smothered in some kind of caramel or butterscotch sauce. It is beyond good. I am not sure what it is at all, but you’ll know when you see it. You won’t be disappointed.

A really cool feature of this Cici’s is that if you don’t see what you like at the bar, you just ask an employee to make it. They don’t care how weird the toppings you ask for are. They will make it and bring it directly to your table. The customer service is incredible for such a low cost dining restaurant. Often it will be the actual manager who brings it out with a smile and makes sure you don’t need anything else.

The restaurant stays very clean. I’ve seen pizza buffets where the employees don’t seem to care. Pizza can be very messy, and pizza attracts small kids. Small kids can be very messy. But you will not find a mess at this Cici’s that isn’t currently being cleaned up. The busboys are apparently very fast and efficient. There are plenty of booths and even two televisions playing non-offensive shows.

All in all, for five or six dollars per person, you can’t do better for dine in food in Tyler, unless you don’t like pizza. But only a true pizza lover like you and me would have read this whole review. So, try out Cici’s. I promise you’ll be impressed.

Papa Murphy’s in Tyler Texas

Papa Murphy’s Take and Bake Pizza

3868 Hwy 64
Tyler 75704
903 531 9500

We enjoy home-made pizzas so I had to be persuaded to try out Papa Murphy’s. I was pleasantly surprised at the outcome!

Papa Murphy’s isn’t your usual pizza place. It’s a bit like – Hmmm – Subway for pizzas!

First you choose and pay for the size and type of pizza you like and if you want a custom pizza you look at all the toppings and decide which you want. Then you watch while they artistically make your pizza in front of you using lots of fresh ingredients. You can comment as they add the toppings – ‘a little more please’, ‘onions on just half the pizza’ and so on until hey presto, the pizza is finished and ready to take home and cook. We had a pizza that was 1/3 pepperoni and 2/3 crispy bacon and pineapple. They absolutely loaded on the toppings, there was no holding back at this place! I haven’t tried the side dishes but they look good too. There is also a low fat ‘lite’ pizza.

The pizzas are double wrapped and baking instructions are included. I love that you can cook it on the tray it comes on too. The result was delicious.

I have to admit to stopping at Papa Murphy’s most Fridays now (it’s our ‘family night’) and in fact, I have now completed a rewards card – if you buy 6 large pizzas you get one free. Sometimes I call ahead with my order so I don’t have to wait for it to be made and at other times I just like to go in and watch it being done!

Try Papa Murphy’s – there are 3 in Tyler so there’s no excuse!
