My Favorite Tyler Pizza Place

September 5th, 2012

As a big sports fan, I typically prefer to watch my teams from the comfort of my own living room. This way, I can pause and rewind the games, get up and come back as I please without missing anything and not have to worry about where I’m at and who’s around to hear and see me react when something good or bad happens.

However, there are two alternatives for places to go other than home to watch the game in Tyler. The first is at Buffalo Wild Wings and the second is Double Daves Pizzaworks.

It’s no-wonder why Double Dave’s slogan is “Wings, beer, sports.” When you go, you’re paying for good food and a great atmosphere.

The best time to go to Buffalo Wild Wings is during football season on a Sunday afternoon. Every TV (and they have many) is tuned to one of the many NFL games and you don’t have to miss a thing. When one game is one a commercial break, you can simply turn your head and watch another game since you have several options.

Another slogan for Buffalo Wild Wings is “You have to be here,” and you’re a sports fan, it’s an atmosphere you have to experience at least once. Pick a game, any game. It can be your favorite team playing or the prime time game of the week.

While you’re there try out the many flavors of wings, beer and sports (sure, sports can have a favor, you just have to be there to experience it.)

Double Dave’s is one also on my list for favorite places to go to watch the game and eat. If you’re talking favorite overall place, it comes in third, after my living room and Buffalo Wild Wings.

The best time to go to Double Dave’s is during lunch for the buffet but honestly, there’s no wrong time. The pepperoni rolls are incredible and unlike anything else you’ve ever had and they have a wide range of different types of pizza, and of course, big screen TVs showing the biggest game taking place. What’s not to like?

As football season approaches, something to consider is to go during a Sunday or Monday night game. That’ll really make you ready.

Beamz Play the Light As Seen on TV Gimmick

December 8th, 2011

I saw this new As Seen on TV product called Beams. They have a little slogan that says, “Play the Light”.

This is a product you play by swiping your hand between two devices and when it senses the motion it plays recorded music.

Since your simply getting recorded music composed by someone else to play by karate chopping the air it seems simply stupid.

I would buy it as a Christmas elephant gift but it is way above the $10 gift limit for that. This total gimick of a music instrument will cost you $200.

I have a hard time believing this will be a profitable TV-Mercial product but the Fushigi Ball and I-Renew bracelet both totally proved me wrong.

Google + Project the new Facebook perhaps? Invite

June 28th, 2011

Google + Project, ya know Google's version of Facebook

Google + Project demo

Google + project is Google’s version of Facebook.

I am asking for Google + invites so if you want an invite from me just let me know.

Now of course in large part this will be a personal social network but there will also be a version for local businesses.

That means that beyond your business Twitter, Facebook, and Yellowpage accounts you will likely need a Google Plus account as well for your local Tyler business.

We will see if this Google Plus project takes flight over the next month.

You can drag and drop friends into little circles. These are your circle of friends.

So Paul Slachter goes in the “Mad Friends” circle making it go to +11 after you drop him in.

You could also have a circle for just those friends who wear liberal librarian looking glasses.

The thing I take away from this is that +1 makes it much more visually intuitive to add friends. You also can look at a feed of just your close buds and not be so distracted by your 1,000 friends from your entire graduating class. I like seeing what random people are doing sometimes but I see the value in just looking at a feed containing your inner 50 circle.

Google’s slogan is something like “don’t be evil” and Facebook is starting to be seen as the evil one.

This could be a pretty good timing move by Google but even so people realize Google is not so much the underdog.

Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches

February 9th, 2011

Jimmy Johns Tyler TexasJimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches has opened a restaurant off of Troop in Tyler. I have seen this restaurant for a while but I have finally had the opportunity to eat there. The set up of the restaurant is very unique with the sarcastic signs, modern style, and open kitchen. I would always laugh when I drove by and saw the neon sign that read “Free Smells”, but when you walked in the store you knew right away what they are talking about. The great smells of freshly cook bread is the first thing that greets you as you walk into the restaurant. The kitchen is open and the sandwiches that you order are prepared right in front of you so that you are ensured that your sandwiches are made fresh. The menu is all the great inventions of Jimmy John himself, with the exception of a few friends and family. All of the sandwiches have different selections of fresh bread, meats, cheeses, sauces, and vegetables.

Jimmy John’s slogan “no shirts, no shoes, no problem; we deliver.” is a great way to express the convenience of their delivery services. They can cater to any size party, including sandwich trays or large subs, chips, drinks, cookies, and even pickle spears. The food is made fresh and delivered to your door or business. You can make orders online or by calling into the store.

Jimmy John’s restaurant has a great menu of tasty and fresh sandwiches. The great atmosphere and polite service makes the restaurant a great place to catch up with friends, go on a lunch date, or have a lunch business meeting. Jimmy John’s restaurant is a new kind of deli here in East Texas, and with the open kitchen you can see and taste the freshness of their sandwiches.

CBS 19 in Tyler Texas

July 2nd, 2010

If you have ever watched news on the East Texas local television station, you know Gillian Sheridan. Though there are many rumors of her department from ABC’s news station, she now dwells at CBS’s news station KYTX. I don’t really care why she left channel seven, and I think that channel 19 doesn’t care either since their ratings have gone up since she moved over.

She claims on commercials that CBS cares more. I mean they even have a program called CBS19 Cares. They advertise for all different opportunities to give back to the community and different programs to help the people of East Texas live happier and healthier lives.

They advertise for events for people recovering from death in the family to people trying to loose weight. It is a great way to see if there are events or groups that can be encouraging to you no matter what you are going through. It is also a great opportunity for the people of east Texas to get involved and help others out.

CBS claims to be the “eye of East Texas”. I think who ever came up with this slogan saw The Lord of the Rings a few to many times. Though this can be taken in a pretty creepy way, I guess that they mean they offer breaking news fast. In that sense, yes they do.

While the tragic burning of the churches of East Texas was happening earlier this year, I watched CBS every night to keep up with what was going on. I am very grateful to the police department that finally arrested the young boys that burning them down, due to the fact that the church I grew up in is now not much more than a pile of ashes.

I was able to know what exactly was happening to the boys while they were on trial. CBS allowed me to get accurate information that I really was interested in.

CBS news has done some weird things to get viewers, like have a ditzy blonde read the news and made a reality show about it. Which really upset me because the reality show portrayed Tyler to be dirty and the people to be not more than a bunch of hicks.

Finally they are getting more viewers thanks to the fact that CBS cares, or maybe because of a new member to the news anchor team.
