Mercado’s popular for out-of-towners

September 27th, 2012

It’s crazy to think of how popular Mercado’s restaurant in Tyler really is.

Often times, when I’m out of town and people here I’m from Tyler, one thing people have told me is they enjoy going to Mercado’s in Tyler. This happened to me when I lived in Houston and it happened just the other day, about an hour half away from Tyler. Anytime somebody comes from out of town, it’s common for the hosts to take their guests to Mercado’s.

People from Tyler and outside of Tyler have raved about it on Google’s reviews.

One customer says, “Just ate at Mercados, and it was amazing. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food was fantastic. The menu is not a bad price. Compared to all of the other Mexican places in Tyler this is the best one. I will never eat at another Mexican place.” Another one says, “The food is really good, the best I’ve tasted around Tyler Area. The chips and tortillas are the best and it’s always clean when I go in and that 1 to 2 times a week. Great Service also.” Finally, one other review says its “amazing.” I have been here numerous times, and can say this is one of the best Mexican restaurants ever. The fajitas are truly amazing, as well as the enchiladas. Great tortillas, and sopaphilas!”

If you’re a big fan of Mexican food and live in Tyler, you’re obviously familiar with Mercado’s to one extent or another. If you’re from out of town and you’re looking for a good Tex-Mex restaurant, why not consider Mercado’s amongst the many other Tex-Mex places in Tyler?

Starbucks on Loop and 64

September 27th, 2012

Whoever thought of putting a Starbucks on the Loop and 64 in Tyler had a good idea. The entire city is growing pretty well and this part of town is now exception.

Just down the road on 64 you’ve got the airport. On the corner of the loop and 64 you have Walmart and more businesses seem to be blooming like crazy, which also increases the business of Starbucks. As Americans, we’re pretty addicted to coffee. When we start our day without it, everything seems to go wrong until we finally caffeine up, Starbucks is conveniently located there to help relieve the stresses of early mornings.

This particular Starbucks location has had great feedback from people, who say it’s the cleanest one in Tyler and are impressed with the service. One of the reviews on Google says, “This is the best Starbucks in Tyler! As a regular, they know by drink and always have a smile for me. Great service!”

Another review raves, “Best Starbucks in Tyler. This is my new Starbucks in Tyler. This location is much cleaner than most, and the baristas are all very friendly. My drink is pretty specific and they have never seemed to mind it. Many other places I go, they seem to get agitated with my order. If you’re in Tyler and want a great experience at a Starbucks, this is the place to come.”

Starbucks is a great place to hang out with friends. It also makes for an even better place to go to get some work done for your job or school, as you can enjoy a cup of coffee (as well as a Frappuccino or a fresh fruit smoothie if that’s your style) while making use of the wireless internet.

Like most Starbucks, this one also has a drive through in case you’re in a hurry. If you’re running late for work and you need that extra kick to get you started, the drive through at Starbucks on the Loop and 64 might just be your best bet.

Get Paid to Exercise, Yes Really!

February 27th, 2012

XTC Fitness launched a 12 week weight loss challenge that is probably about half way through by now and the winner gets a lot of cash.

Now for those who missed out on this opportunity and for those that are not members at XTC Fitness you can still get paid to workout.

Here is how this works. There is a gym mobile application called Gympact that pays you money for working out. Unfortunately it is only available for the iPhone at this time.

It may sound too good to be true but it is for real. What happens is that you setup an account with them and a part of that includes giving them your credit card information.

You set a number of days you plan on working out at your gym per week. Gympact asks you to check-in through their app when you go to your gym so they know you went.

This application basically helps to keep you accountable to your gym workout goals. If you fail to go to the gym the allotted number of days you set than you end up paying money instead of getting money.

If you workout everyday you promised Gympact will pay you for it.

So what you have is a pool of money from all those people that failed to workout. If you are good at sticking with your fitness goals you have one more reason to show up to the gym now.

If you have yet to find the best Tyler TX gym I would like to direct you to go by Tony Cruz XTC Fitness & Sports. This is a very large mega-gym in Tyler I visit 4 – 5 days a week.

XTC has over 80 group exercise classes a week and is sure to give you plenty of planned out reasons why you should come to the gym at almost any hour of the day.

Other fitness applications that reward you although not in cash like Gympact are: Earndit, Fitocracy, Switch2Health, and Nexercise.

Earndit is the closest to Gympact because you can win gift cards to retail stores. You can connect your RunKeeper or FitBit account to this app. To connect up you can simply login to the app using Twitter, Facebook, Google, OpenID, and others and start earning.

If you just like that motivation that comes from the praises of others than Fitocracy may be the app you need. This app is heavy on the gamified aspect of design. You get a combination of a game and social network that allows users to join groups and motivate one another in a contest of sorts where you earn many different coveted badges.

Switch2Health is like Earndit because it allows you to win gift cards. This app is also compatible with many different devices such as the iphone, Nike, Foursquare, and Android.

The last app I am aware of is called Nexercise. This app is an iphone fitness app with a lot of promises such as coupons but at this time only offers a gamified competitive fitness experience with other gym goers like the popular Foursquare check-in service. You can expect things like badges for reaching different fitness achievements.

7 Tricks to Treat Potential Customers Using YouTube

October 21st, 2011

I have had a local product website since 2006 and I spend about $300 a month on paid search advertising but I have found that certain products on my site sell much better when using Youtube videos. The TylerTXDirectory creates YouTube videos on occasion for local businesses in Tyler to get the word out about a new business in town, event, or attraction. We often encourage businesses to create their own YouTube channel so they can have control of their own videos and what they choose to produce and show the public.

“I was extremely surprised to find that YouTube brought me more customers in a certain niche that hundreds of dollars in search advertising wasn’t even able to do.” – Donny

Youtube is actually the 2nd largest search engine next to Google and of course Google owns both of these but when you think about the potential of local business advertising it really makes sense. How many local Tyler businesses actively produce videos about their business? I have found that most Tyler TX businesses don’t create videos and the ones that do really don’t take the time to truly add value in the videos they produce. For instance, a video about real estate in Tyler should offer quite a bit more than just stating the obvious. If a potential customer takes the time to listen to a Realtor in Tyler tell you that a fresh coat of paint will really improve the ability to sell their house you will likely be disappointed. Most people know this point and so it is important to really go above and beyond to help those trying to sell a house by offering several tips in your video that maybe people are likely not aware of already.

To begin your business intelligence for advertising through video on YouTube start out by searching for businesses like yours on YouTube. If you are a local Tyler pet grooming company you could search on YouTube for “pet grooming Tyler Texas”. Watch some competitors who have already created videos in your niche and then come up with your own creative idea. From my experience the videos you will find will be pretty bad so you should be able to plan and come up with something that offers quite a bit more value. Below are 7 tips to YouTube video creation we believe will help you in creating the perfect YouTube video:

  1. Watch your competition. Jot down what you like and don’t like in your competitions videos. You may find that your competition has not even tried advertising using YouTube yet so you may have to start from scratch. Does the screen shot picture you see tempt you to click and play the video? Is their sales pitch too aggressive without offering any other value beyond a pitch? Is the background music and graphics over the top and distracting? If you find something specific you don’t like in a competitors video be sure to avoid that in your own.
  2. Don’t try to be a videographer. You can likely find a skilled videographer from a local news station that is willing to video and produce something off the clock and possibly save you a lot of money. These video experts will know how to correctly light an area and setup things like the microphone, and selection of video camera. The expert will know how to zoom in when it makes sense, and tastefully add in soundtrack and images. The final production will appear more professional and polished than what you, coworker, or family member could do on your own.
  3. Set a budget. You can hire a videographer for around $75 an hour and around $1,000 a day but you can get someone off the clock for about half those rates. The price also depends on their experience level, talent, and work history. The cost will also be calculated based on how many days it takes to shoot, length of the video, and final editing time of video. Try bartering with the videographer with your own services and products to get the cost down.
  4. Create a script. You only have a couple of minutes to make your pitch. Concentrate on offering real value in the video in the form of advice and leave your call to action for the end of the video. Make sure you offer a real clear call to action at the end of the video and even consider placing your phone number and address as text in the video as well.
  5. Offer tremendous value. How-to videos are a great way to offer value to those watching your video. Go beyond the obvious and provide enough advice that gets people past the learning curve and provides them a sense of trust in your expert ability. Offer some really good trade secrets that your willing to give up for free as this free value makes the customer much more willing to reciprocate and call you back to buy your services. Be sure to put your best self out there when creating the video and show your passion for what you do. Because it is a how to video you may even get people to naturally share the video with others because it isn’t just a sales pitch.
  6. Do your technical research. Put the best part of your content at the front of your video to keep people interested and watching. Find the keywords in your industry that people are most likely to type in their search engines. If you are a mobile pet grooming service like Tyler’s “Kritter Kutz” consider having “Tyler TX pet grooming” key terms in the title of your video, description, tag your video with these key terms, and categorize your video under “how to”.
  7. Keep your good will up. Good will among YouTube watchers is your currency in this online video world. Make sure that you offer them enough value in the video so that they leave with a good impression of you. These Youtuber’s will be more likely to watch more of your videos in the future, see you as the authority in your industry, ignore your competition, and reciprocate the favor because you truly helped them and offered them value.

Texas Biz Solutions, a Tyler Web Design and Web Marketing Company

September 27th, 2011

Texas Biz Solutions has an integrated approach to web design by including web marketing as a part of their overall strategy to offer value to the clients that choose them to be their web design company.

What this company does that sets them a part from the competition is search engine optimization work that involves four key things:

  •     Video Marketing
  •     Article Marketing
  •     Backlinking
  •     Social Media Marketing

A good website is a great thing to have but driving traffic to it is just as important. You can build a brand and traffic to your website by buying ad space on local Tyler TV stations and radio. With this media strategy you could expect to receive a couple hundred search visitors to your website daily from this exposure.

Some small local Tyler businesses simply do not have the budget to build their brand and business in this way and so this is why a web design company that offers search engine optimization and social media marketing is so important.

SEO and social media are your two biggest levers right now in marketing strictly through the internet. In some cases I have seen companies receive more traffic through Google plus, Facebook, and Twitter than through some very good SEO strategies.

If you are lost as to what SEO is it is simply this:

Getting your website to rank for keywords people type in search engines to buy the type of stuff your business sells. For instance, if you sell hand dryers for bathrooms you will typically not find this in a Lowes or Walmart. If someone were to type in a search engine “Tyler TX hand dryer equipment” you would want your hand dryer website to come up if that is what you sell.

An SEO company can offer an integrated approach of web design and on page and off page SEO that allows your companies most popular search terms to bring up your website when people type those terms in Google, Yahoo, or Bing.

By using a company that is good at both web design, user experience, SEO, and social media you can knock out several things at once while working with a limited budget.
