Get Paid to Exercise, Yes Really!

February 27th, 2012

XTC Fitness launched a 12 week weight loss challenge that is probably about half way through by now and the winner gets a lot of cash.

Now for those who missed out on this opportunity and for those that are not members at XTC Fitness you can still get paid to workout.

Here is how this works. There is a gym mobile application called Gympact that pays you money for working out. Unfortunately it is only available for the iPhone at this time.

It may sound too good to be true but it is for real. What happens is that you setup an account with them and a part of that includes giving them your credit card information.

You set a number of days you plan on working out at your gym per week. Gympact asks you to check-in through their app when you go to your gym so they know you went.

This application basically helps to keep you accountable to your gym workout goals. If you fail to go to the gym the allotted number of days you set than you end up paying money instead of getting money.

If you workout everyday you promised Gympact will pay you for it.

So what you have is a pool of money from all those people that failed to workout. If you are good at sticking with your fitness goals you have one more reason to show up to the gym now.

If you have yet to find the best Tyler TX gym I would like to direct you to go by Tony Cruz XTC Fitness & Sports. This is a very large mega-gym in Tyler I visit 4 – 5 days a week.

XTC has over 80 group exercise classes a week and is sure to give you plenty of planned out reasons why you should come to the gym at almost any hour of the day.

Other fitness applications that reward you although not in cash like Gympact are: Earndit, Fitocracy, Switch2Health, and Nexercise.

Earndit is the closest to Gympact because you can win gift cards to retail stores. You can connect your RunKeeper or FitBit account to this app. To connect up you can simply login to the app using Twitter, Facebook, Google, OpenID, and others and start earning.

If you just like that motivation that comes from the praises of others than Fitocracy may be the app you need. This app is heavy on the gamified aspect of design. You get a combination of a game and social network that allows users to join groups and motivate one another in a contest of sorts where you earn many different coveted badges.

Switch2Health is like Earndit because it allows you to win gift cards. This app is also compatible with many different devices such as the iphone, Nike, Foursquare, and Android.

The last app I am aware of is called Nexercise. This app is an iphone fitness app with a lot of promises such as coupons but at this time only offers a gamified competitive fitness experience with other gym goers like the popular Foursquare check-in service. You can expect things like badges for reaching different fitness achievements.

Faulkner Park on Broadway

March 13th, 2011

Faulkner Park Tyler TX Spring Softball
During the spring there comes adult softball season in Tyler TX which is played over at Lindsey Field.

Teams need a place to practice on the weekends and Lindsey Field is usually taken so then what do you do?

Faulkner Park is a good baseball park with smaller fields and in the Spring is also heavily used on the weekends. There are, however, some practice fields down below and over near the tennis courts.

We setup this Sunday at the Faulkner Park baseball practice fields. I worked on my batting, fielding, and under hand pitching as well as the rest of my team.

No one reserves these fields for practice as you find at Lindsey Park and so they are almost always available.

You will also find two very nice playgrounds for your kids. There is the splash park which has some pretty cool water spray action going on. It’s basically a toddler water park without a pool and risk of drowning. A traditional park is right next to it.

The other playground is in the middle of the park and has massive slides, a bridge, as well as tons of other stuff.

So if you are a baseball team or softball team looking for that long lost field no one uses for practice you just might find it at Faulkner at the bottom of a hill by the tennis courts. If your wife is not playing on your team she and your kids will have a blast at the park while you perfect your swing.

Tyler, Texas Home Search

Tyler TX Home MLS Search

Tyler TX MLS

While it is wise to find a good real estate agent for your Tyler, Texas home search, sometimes it helps to conduct your own property search. Realtors can help you find homes that you may not normally have access to and let you know when a new home hits the market that matches your criteria before it shows up on MLS search results. However, no matter how in tune your realtor is to you, they will never be you and therefore cannot know with certainty whether a particular home is something you would be interested in or not.

In order to find your perfect home, help your realtor along a little. Provide him or her with a clear description of the type of home you are searching for, but keep an eye out yourself just in case something becomes available that doesn’t fit in with the description you gave. There are many, many ways to conduct a Tyler, Texas home search, but one of the best resources can be found at http://www.tylertxhomesearch.com/.

Using a website such as this one will allow you to search available listings based on several criteria. You can select a price range in which to search so that you aren’t falling in love with homes that are out of your budget. Additionally, you may specify how many bedrooms and bathrooms you’d like, as well as if you’d prefer to have amenities such as a fireplace or pool and whether you are interested in waterfront property.

Dove Tree Apartment Tyler Texas

October 27th, 2009

Dovetree Apartments in Tyler TX
There are many different apartment complexes in Tyler Texas, but I have had the most personal experience at the Dove Tree apartment complex. I was first attracted to the complex because of the location and price. One advice that I would give to anyone looking for an apartment is to get the complaints that were made to the police department.

As my new family and I looked for an apartment we wanted a safe place for a good price. I found Dove Tree apartment. It looked great and could give us the apartment that we wanted right away. It was right in the middle of town. The apartment was just a couple miles from the mall and grocery stores. As a bonus, the apartment had a pool and a great work out room. Our neighbors were, nice, yet interesting, to say the least. We did not have any problems with the people around and we lived a couple miles from my work. It seemed great.

After a couple months after living there the roof began to leak. We called maintenance. It took about two weeks of annoying dripping throughout the night and several frustrating phone calls for someone to come take a look at our bathroom ceiling. Finally a man came in the middle of the day and vacuumed out a metal crawl space from where water was dripping into the four buckets we had in the middle of our bathroom floor. That idea stopped the unbearable dripping for only a couple days. A few more weeks past and several more phone calls before they decided to come again. I would think that if one thing was not working that they would try to do something else. But again the maintenance vacuumed out the water and went onto the next thing. I was very frustrated after fighting with this for months, and the entire time we lived there it never was completely fix.

Apartments have so many hidden secrets. Even though we had a six month lease we had to tell the management that we were leaving about four months before we were going to move out or they would charge us an outrageous fee. This bothered me, because if you get a six month lease, obviously your intentions are to move out in six months. I met one young lady who did not realize this rule and went to tell them a couple weeks before she left, they told her that she had to pay for the next month and some ridiculous fee that did not completely make sense.

The apartment selection is huge in the Tyler area, do not sale yourself short. Make sure the maintenance is quick and do not forget to read the small print.
