Cavenders Boot City

February 26th, 2010

Cavenders

2025 W SW Loop 323
Tyler Texas
903 561 2510

Cavenders is a Western store for men, women and children selling hats, cowboy boots, clothing and some jewellery and accessories. Cavenders is a wonderful Texas experience for the tourist and a great place to shop for the local.

As you go in, you will probably be greeted with a ‘howdy’ from the friendly staff at the checkout. The store is well laid out. On the right is the kid’s section and the men’s boots and hats. There is a huge variety and all sizes are available. Helpful assistants will find the right size for you – you have to get hat size right otherwise it will look or feel weird! Then there are shelf after shelf of boots, from the inexpensive but long lasting Justin boots to the more expensive Luccheses and others. There are boots with round toes, square toes and pointy toes, flat boots, heels, and all different colors and some different materials and trims. You will find something you like for sure.

On the front left side of the store is the ladies section – boots and clothes. You can find lots of pretty tops as well as jeans and beaded flipflops as well as cowboy boots. Behind that is the men’s clothing section – lots of Wranglers and checked shirts but a good deal of other stuff too – both work quality and going out stuff. The clothes at Cavenders in general are fairly expensive but the quality of the items stocked is really good and they will last and last.

In the middle of the store are the belts and buckles, jewellery, billfolds and so on. I love the silver jewellery they sell at Cavenders. They also have some Texas memorabilia, cards, key rings and Western style home decor items.

Service at Cavenders is polite and helpful. They will return any unworn item with a receipt and will issue giftcards if you need to exchange but haven’t time to shop. A Cavenders gift card is always a great gift by the way.

Occasionally Cavenders will have a ‘Round-up’ sale with $10 or $20 off certain brands of cowboy boots or something similar but on the whole there are not many ‘bargains’ to be found as Western fashions don’t change a great deal so the stock stays pretty consistent.

Finally, Cavenders is open until 8pm so you can shop after work. They also have a great website and you can order online. This is great for guys that wear out their clothes and just want repeat orders of the same thing!

Cato’s Clothing Store in Tyler Texas and Lindale

CATO

Cato Clothing Store

Cato Fashion

3222 S. Main Street
Suite 130
Lindale
TX 75771
903 882 7071

Also Highway 64 West Tyler and 3101 Shiloh Road Tyler.

Cato is a woman’s clothes, accessories and shoe shop. Often Catos are located near a Walmart for utter convenience and the items stocked are priced very reasonably to match!

As you walk in the door of Cato there are 2 distinct sides to the shop – on the left is the plus sizes and shoes and on the right is the regular ladies sizes (misses) and the girls clothes – size 7 and up.

The new season’s casual styles line the walls. They carry most sizes in these items and will have items held back at another Cato store for you to collect in your own time, if they don’t. On the racks down the center of the store are the smarter outfits and dresses and to the far side are clearance rails. This is where you can find a real bargain. Most are marked down once or twice depending on how long that item of clothing has been in-store.

My impression of Cato is that they do follow fashion trends although they may be a few months behind the fashion stores in the Mall. They are not afraid of color or bold patterns but carry some neutral colors too. Cato tries to meet your need for both casual and smart outfits. They have plenty of what I call ‘East Texas church tops’ to dress up a pair of pants and I love their cropped jeans with matching belts.

Cato sells a limited amount of low cost sportswear, lingerie and sleepwear too. The shoes are really good value and they sell large sizes and wider shoes too. They have a selection of scarves, belts and other accessories and I have found them to be much cheaper and of similar quality to those purchased at JCPenney.

The shop assistants are friendly and helpful. When you come to check out be warned though – Cato has a nice display of silver jewelry and watches on the counter and if you’re like me, you will be tempted to splurge a little more than you intended. They also sell some bath and body products and some replica perfumes, which though inexpensive, fail to convince.

I have had impeccable customer service from Cato and have had no trouble in exchanging items that were not right or bought on impulse.

You will find clothes bought at Cato are better quality, nicer designs and more upmarket in general than Walmart but the prices are very similar. If you like to look good and have new clothes which don’t cost the earth, it’s certainly worth browsing there every couple of months or so.

The Children’s Place in Tyler TX

The Children’s Place

Broadway Square mall
4601 S Broadway
Tyler 75703

The Children’s Place is a store in the mall where you can find great up-to-date fashions for babies and children’s clothing up to the age of 14 without paying a huge amount for them.

There are many things I love about the Children’s Place.

Firstly – the bright colors! Why dress your kids in drab colors when they can look cool and trendy in bright shades? They will have plenty of time in their adult lives for wearing pastels and black.

Secondly – the quality. The Children’s Place in Tyler TX is proof that you can have fashion and good quality. The things I buy last more than one season and more than one kid – you can pass them down or even consign them easily. The clothes wash well and are immensely practical for school and play wear.

Thirdly – you can buy things to match! I am not obsessive about having everything the same but doesn’t it feel good when you can dress your child in co-ordinating socks, hats and even hair accessories. Not only that, but you can buy matching outfits for different kids. My 7 year old is so proud that his baby brother has the same striped sweater as him. It is usually the girls that have all the fun with clothes but here is his chance to have something special that people compliment him on.

The Children’s Place also has really good end of season sales. You can sign up on their website to be informed about them or you can shop for bargains online. I have done that on occasions and been delighted to receive a large box of clothes for just $5 shipping. You can also return them to the store for credit if they don’t fit or you change your mind about a purchase. One thing I have found is that the sizes run slightly small – especially for baby wear so if you are not sure about the size, buy the larger. Otherwise I have no complaints about the clothes we buy.

Finally, I have found that a gift card for the Children’s Place is a good baby shower or birthday gift and if you are a coupon hoarder then sign up for the birthday club in store or online for discounts on your child’s birthday.

Cinderbella’s Boutique

Tyler Texas Children's Clothing at Cinderbella's

Cinderbella's

3400 S Broadway Ave
Tyler Texas 75701
903 266 9162
hours: Mon-Sat 10 am – 5:30

This shop opened last year and is a delight to many a parent who loves to dress their little one in nice cute things but doesn’t always have the funds to buy them new.

This well laid out and spacious shop has an area in the back for good quality, gently used consigned goods and the rest of the store contains new items. Although this consignment store is fairly large already they will be moving into a much large facility close to where Lifeway Christian Bookstore used to be in the same shopping strip. This will give them much more room to offer many more children’s clothes they would like to have available for sale.

Many of the new items are hand made or have motifs which can be made to order. There are bows here too – just in case you are the sort of Mom who likes to have matching accessories for their child.

The thing that struck me immediately as I walked in the door was that this is a boutique for little girls. Sure there are items for boys too but this is the place for very girly girls!

It is a perfect place for grandmothers to buy cutsie outfits for their beloved little ones and a great place to buy that non essential but oh-so-lovely outfit or accessory for a friend who is expecting their first little girl. As I browsed, I could almost hear the exclamations of friends at a baby shower as gifts were unwrapped!

The thing that caught my eye, as a more practical person, was the shoes. Here you can buy new shoes which are excellent quality and really individual. The leather was so soft, I’m sure they would be perfect for little feet. There was a half price sale when I was shopping too so it didn’t seemed too expensive.

In the rear of the store are the consigned goods. These are definitely upscale too.

They are nicely arranged in size and gender so you can look through them without hassle.

The impression I got from this store was attention to detail. Not just in the type of clothes for sale but in the way everything was presented. The lady at the checkout was really helpful and I’m sure she loves what she does, which makes the whole shopping experience at Cinderbella’s a really nice one.

The Children’s Clothing Consignment Sale

January 27th, 2010

Twice yearly at Harvey Convention Center, Tyler

If you have kids and love a bargain – DO NOT MISS THIS SALE!

The CCC sale is a 3 day weekend event where around 1000 families bring their gently used children’s clothing, shoes, toys, furniture and equipment to be sold at about a third of the new price.

It is run by 2 stay-at-home Moms and a team of volunteers who work at the sale in return for the privilege of shopping early at the preview sale.

It is a very popular place to buy, and sell children’s items. Prepare for crowds on the first day and be aware that you may need to bring a family member to stand in line at the check out area.

Children's Clothing Consignment Sale in Tyler

Having said that, the CCC sale has been finely tuned over the last few years and they are becoming more and more efficient.

What I like about the sale – besides the fact that you can get nice things at exceedingly good value – is that it is easy to find what you are looking for. This is no garage sale. Everything has been carefully laundered, labeled and even hung on the hangers in a particular way on racks in size order, so that you can quickly root through and find what you want. As a seller, it can be a bit intimidating on the first occasion to make sure everything is done properly – but you will soon see that your time and effort is well worth it. Unlike most consignment stores – the split is 70/30 which means you can make a very good return on your items. The seller also sets the price and can decide whether or not the item is to go for half price on the last day of the sale or not. Sellers can pick up any unsold items or donate them to Living Alternatives or the Salvation Army.

As well as consigning some goods, I always spend a lot of money at the sale. Harvey Hall is literally packed with stuff for sale. I buy almost my daughter’s entire wardrobe each season and a good few baby clothes and shoes too. There are fewer clothes for boys – I guess they wear them out more than girls! but I have still found some great deals on nice brands and usually find playwear and swimwear too. In the fall I buy dress up outfits which are very affordable – and then I recycle them the following year! As a pregnant Mom I shopped for all sorts of baby items – they have strollers, backpacks, highchairs, cribs, bouncy chairs and every type of baby toy you can think of. I know that some people buy furniture and bedding at the sale too. There are so many bargains to be had! On the last day many of the items that are left are sold at half price. This is the best day to buy T shirts, play wear, books and videos/DVDs. There are also shoes left that are not so new looking, but fine for playing in.

I can’t begin to think of how much money I have been able to save by shopping at the CCC sale each year. I have to admit that I also love shopping there. I go with friends, leaving the children behind and we pile all our bargains into laundry baskets (as there are no carts to use and strollers are a bit impractical in the loaded space). Harvey Convention Center in Tyler We stop for a Starbucks or Dennys all day breakfast on the way home. It is truly fun!

Find out more about how you can become a seller on www.cccsale.com or just come and browse through the bargains. Admission is free. The next sale is April 8-10th
