Texan’s are Getting Fat! and This Fat Is Happening Fast!

April 13th, 2012

We have 7 billion people on earth and 2.3 billion are expected to be obese by 2015. Wow! Doctors are not telling people to lose weight because of some conspiracy to make money.

Doctors are letting people know that you should try and lose weight because you will die much earlier than you may otherwise want to.

Heart disease is the number one early killer by a long shot and cancer is way down there in 2nd place. The point is that cancer should not be the scary disease you try to avoid, it should be becoming a fat obese person.

I am in no way the skinny guy pointing the finger and neither are several of my relatives who have found themselves in the fat category. Most of us here in Texas can relate and by 2015 over 30% will be in the obese category. Not overweight, OBESE! ¡Ay, caramba!

In several examples in my own family we have seen a steady easy decline in becoming less fat and no longer obese.

That word obese sounds really bad! It should sound bad because it causes heart disease and if you want to die in your 40’s – 60’s depending on how long that fast working heart can hold out you just keep on eating that ice-cream my friend.

But don’t let this hard talk discourage you, I realize there are some very weird and bizarre completely out of this world psychological reasons why the ultra-obese can’t seem to break the habit of eating so much.

I am not about to pretend I understand these underlying deep psychological reasons that keeps people on the continual road of obesity. I feel for you and I admit I don’t have the answer for you and I don’t pretend to think it will be easy for you to change your lifestyle.

For many of us who are not ultra obese you should be thankful…you don’t have these psychological issues that morbidly obese people have to contend with. For you a simple high protein diet during breakfast, more protein for lunch and a low calorie dinner before 7 pm is all you need.

Combine this perfectly healthy diet with a workout routine of only 30 minutes a session 3 times a week and you have made some life changing habits.

So this is about all I have for you regarding being a fat Texan…most of us have been there including me. It isn’t just about trying to stay skinny and healthy but life is about much more than that…check out these very helpful tips for a much more fulfilling well rounded life. 30 Habits that will Change your Life

Fidgeting at the Office Can Be a Form of Exercise

October 7th, 2011

Are you a fidgety person? The funny thing is that by fidgeting you can actually burn a significant amount of calories each day. What I am talking about here are things like crossing and uncrossing your legs, making up and down movements in your chair, spinning from side to side in a chair, stretching and standing often, and just being an overall restless individual. This fidgety person being described pretty much fits me to a T. I get my work done but I like to fidget, it just comes natural and thankfully it burns a significant amount of calories daily.

The study done that measured calorie loss through fidgeting involved feeding the subjects in the study 1,000 extra calories every day for 8 weeks. Once these people started eating the snacks some of them immediately began fidgeting to burn the extra calories without even realizing it. Almost 33 percent of the thousand calories that were eaten were burned off from fidgeting and restless behavior. The remaining calories left were deposited as fat.

The people in this 8 week study gained anywhere from 2 pounds to 16 pounds but those people that were fidgety at their office desk gained the least amount of fat. There is definitely something positive to be said for the fidgety person you sit next to at your office. Maybe it is you or maybe not but consider that standing up at your desk and stretching every once in awhile can be a really good thing especially if you are a snacker.

In summary you can expect to burn about 330 calories a day from fidgeting at your office desk if you are anything like me. Unfortunately if you eat a snickers bar and drink a coke everyday you aren’t really making any headway. If you fidget your body is simply trying to tell you that you are an active person and you need to get out an do something to shed off some of that activity. What I will do is take a 45 minute break during my lunch hour and go over to XTC Fitness in Tyler and do their noon kickboxing group class. I probably burn 1,000 calories or so in the group class each day and it further assists in burning calories as well as building a little muscle. Consider that for every pound of muscle you put on to your body that muscle will automatically burn an additional 35 – 50 calories a day even if you sat and didn’t fidget at all. So whether you fidget or don’t fidget you can always stay active and the XTC gym is my preferred choice to do that.

Workout number 7 at XTC Fitness in Tyler TX

June 29th, 2011

I am now officially at workout number 7 after completing it today around 1:00 p.m.

During my lunch hour I run over to Tony Cruz XTC Fitness and Sports gym and get in a 45 minute kickboxing workout.

Since almost all of this workout is cardio with the occasional push ups you feel the pain. Regardless if you think your tough stuff if you don’t do normal cardio stuff on a regular basis this workout out will remind you of that.

Back on my 6th workout day I started to actually feel stronger. I could do quite a few more fist push ups and I didn’t feel so much like I was about to die.

I know that will power is the number one most powerful asset we as humans have and that my emotions would be telling me to quit at workout number 1.

As you can see I did kickboxing class number 7 and I am still alive and well and feeling much healthier, happier, and more alert than ever.

The kickboxing trainer I had to today was Andrew and on other days it is Corey. Both group exercise trainers are extremely helpful and encouraging throughout the 45 minutes.

If you want to get yourself into shape quick and don’t feel like you have the time then make some time during your lunch break. Go by Tony Cruz XTC Fitness & Sports and meet a personal trainer or two and see what group exercise class and time would work best for you.

Benefits of a Tyler TX Gym Workout

June 14th, 2011

Tony Cruz CTC FitnessStudies have shown that about 1/3rd of cancer related deaths occurred because of a bad diet and a Homer Simpson type of sit on the coach watch TV lifestyle. By simply moving your body with some basic although brisk exercise you decrease your chances of getting:

Certain cancers:

  • breast
  • colon
  • endometrial
  • prostate

The short jog, cardio routine, or local Tyler Texas gym workout during your work lunch break is linked to a 50 percent lower risk of being told one day you have colon cancer.  The Journal of the American Medical Association discovered that a woman’s chance of getting breast cancer can be reduced by 18% simply by getting in 1 – 2 hours of a brisk walk in each week as compared next to women with sedentary lifestyles.

Another benefit of a workout routine like what is offered in the kickboxing classes at XTC Fitness and Sports is a dramatic reduction in cardiovascular disease chances. Cardio disease is the most common cause of dieing in the United States right now. Exercise almost guarantees you will not die of overweight cardio related issues because of never getting into a routine of daily movement.

Everyone dies eventually but heart attacks can take 30 – 40 years off your life if you are obese.

At this point your rational mind is likely convinced of some of the benefits of working out but your emotional side might still be thinking of how that ice-cream or Oreo will feel going in your mouth.

What you need is a trick to change up things just enough to cause your emotional brain to get on board with your rational mind.

None of us likes to think we need  other people and programs to get us doing something but in reality we are like robots and we easily find ourselves in bad habits causing us to do the exact same things day after day.

You can quickly trick your body into doing some good by using one of the most valuable weapons in your arsenal, your will power.

Our will power is often squandered and put aside as we allow the path of least resistance to often times make our decision up for us.

By changing your environment and getting into a gym setting with class mates who have the same goals as you do you assist in getting your emotional side on board with your rational mind.

Having the encouragement of class mates and a kickboxing instructor with you for the entire workout routine helps you do what your emotions don’t want to do.

Go ahead and admit it, you may have the will power but you don’t want to use it to workout.

You can cheat these emotional thoughts that rob you of a healthy lifestyle by changing your environment and thereby changing your emotional mind.

Before you know it 30 days will have past and you will have a new routine in place of your trip to the food store, couch and TV.

Go by XTC Fitness on Broadway next to The Diner and pick up a workout class schedule today.

No Matter How Well Tuned You Think You Are You Still Need to Workout

June 9th, 2011

Tyler TX GymI used to have a BMW M5 that I only drove every once in awhile. I noticed if I let the car sit too long things simply didn’t work as well and occasionally I even had to take it in to a mechanic.

When I took the car in one day to Mike Pile BMW the mechanic said, “You haven’t been driving this car lately, have you?” He explained to me that this car was built to be on the road and shouldn’t be garaged for too long.

I was actually hurting the car and its performance by keeping it in the garage and only driving it on special occasions.

Just like that M5 I used to have, your body was designed to exercise and move on a daily basis. When on multiple days you park your body in a Lazy Boy recliner and do not move eventually you will destroy your engine.

Most of us are sick and not feeling in tip top shape because we are like robots doing the same thing each day with no real change refusing to stir the water in our body with exercise and action.

Your body over time becomes a stagnant pool of disease and unhealthy garbage heaps of chemicals and bad choices.

Eventually your body will not have the ability to exercise at a local Tyler TX gym because of heart disease, arthritis, and other disabling worsening diseases.

By getting the water moving in your body and beginning to exercise at a local Tyler TX gym you will see many powerful effects on your health.

By understanding that people are basically robots and simply do the same typical things each day you can understand that unless a drastic change is made in your environment you will likely keep doing the same things.

Most of us are simply laying down sheets and sheets of the same road on top of each other as we do and make the same habitual mistakes over and over again.

Your rational mind likely knows what to do but your emotional side simply cannot get yourself out of the habits you do almost everyday that keep you from moving your body.

A little trick and cheat to getting your emotional brain to do what your rational mind has been telling you is to change your environment.

By getting involved in a fitness program at a local Tyler TX gym you are changing your environment. You are surrounded by people who all have the goal of moving their bodies and exercising their way to a healthy lifestyle.

The fitness instructor is your personal trainer as well as everyone’s in that class. You get the guidance and moral support of your peers and an expert in the field of physical fitness that all works as an amazing trick to subtly trick your emotional mind into doing what you your rational self had known for years.

So take action and change you environment, as this is a direct shortcut to reprogramming that robot in everybody that is doing the wrong thing day after day.
