Save-A-Lot Grocery Store

February 3rd, 2010

Save-A-Lot

2305 West Erwin Street
Tyler, TX 75702-6736
(903) 592-1592

Save-A-Lot Grocery Store is located at 2305 W Erwin St., Tyler, Texas 75702. This grocery store saves you money by limiting the overhead on their groceries.

Any time I want to stock up on canned goods, I go to Save-A-Lot and buy the canned goods by the case. The brands are not Del Monte, but they are excellent quality brands that taste good to us, plus the cans are about half the price that other stores charge for similar canned goods. The products are left in the case and stacked up, but you don’t have to buy a case, you can buy the number of cans you wish.

The store is pretty clean and arranged to be convenient to shop. In addition to canned goods, they carry milk, eggs, butter, some ice cream, cream cheese and cheese. They have a variety of meat and prepackaged lunch meat. They carry fresh fruit and vegetables, that are good quality at a reasonable price.

Save-A-Lot carries the cheaper brands of soda, chips, crackers, cookies and snack items at a fraction of the cost at other stores. If you aren’t a brand name person and want good quality items at cheaper prices, you should go check the items and prices at Save-A-Lot.

Tyler Supermercados Monterrey

January 17th, 2010

Tyler Supermercados Monterrey is a grocery store that specializes in Mexican products with all their labels written in Spanish. They are located right off Rt 31 and Loop 323 by Taco Bell, Blockbuster, Rainbow and other stores surrounding it. Even though I am not Spanish speaking I like going there because sometimes the prices are lower than other grocery stores. Their selection of meat and seafood is better and less expensive than what I have seen in some of the other grocery store. Because it is a Hispanic grocery store all things are written in Spanish…so you might have to be able to get along in there when you go in…or find someone who speaks English that can translate. My favorite thing to buy is their Mexican breads that are sweet. They have all kinds of selections and usually you can get three for a dollar. If you don’t mind the extra calories, than I would say go try a few.

Inside the grocery store they have a little restaurant, where they make all kinds of tacos. Whenever we go there, for less than $20 you can buy a little something for about three people, if you don’t splurge and get just one taco per person. They also have the best juices there. All kinds of good flavors, my favorite one is pineapple juice.

There is a place inside the store that you can purchase cell phones and phone accessories.

I particularly enjoy shopping when there are lots of stores in a location. I hope I have convinced you to try shopping at Supermercado Monterrey. You can save a lot on your grocery bill and enjoy the experience at the same time.

Big Lots On Beckham In Tyler TX

January 15th, 2010

Big Lots is an often looked over or even despised treasure. Looking at the outside of a standard Big Lots you might think you’ve stumbled upon just another depressing grocery store, but you would be wrong. However, the stores do often open up in buildings that used to be grocery stores. The stores are worth looking into. Since being founded in 1967, the Big Lots corporation has expanded to having about fourteen hundred stores in forty-seven states. The thing I never expected to discover is that the Big Lots corporation did over four billion dollars in sales last year! They are a serious force in the retail industry.

The location on Beckham in Tyler is an all time favorite of mine. Like most Big Lots stores the outside has nothing to offer the senses, unless you are particularly drawn to the color orange or large signs. The parking lot is rather depressing and doesn’t have the most attractive neighboring stores. In fact, the inside isn’t exactly appealing either, but it does have a lot to offer in terms of merchandise and surprisingly their sales and support staff.

I first went to this location because they were the only one of the two stores in Tyler that offered a full showroom of large furniture. They sell couches, loveseats, recliners, over-stuffed chairs, ottomans and even mattress sets. My past experiences with Big Lots had only been to find cheap but nice presents for people or attempts at lowering my grocery bill. The company has never been a disappointment to me, but they had never wowed me either…that is, until I went to this location.

My sister and brother-in-law had purchase a couch and matching chair-and-a-half a several months prior to my trip. Ever time my wife and I visited their house we were amazed at how nice their couches were and durable to boot. The furniture was nicer and more comfortable than almost any couch I had ever experienced, and I have sat on some very expensive couches. The crazy thing was that they had bought them at the Big Lots in Tyler, TX. We almost couldn’t believe it. Then they told us that they had only paid about seven hundred dollars total and had managed to pay for it using an in store financing plan with low or no interest.

We walked into this store hoping that we could find something comparable to the set my siblings had found. We were instantly impressed with how many pieces of assembled furniture were available for testing. We began sitting on couch after couch, truly enjoying the process. They all seemed so nice and the price tags were very comforting. Of course, they were higher than yard sale prices, but we were tired of ugly dog-destroyed sofas that were free or cost ten dollars. We were ready for grown up furniture, and the store had it. The experience became even better when we spotted the very couch and chair-and-a-half that we had already fallen in love with at my siblings’ house.

The sales associate was beyond nice and helpful. He told us his personal experiences with the couches we were considering and helped us decide on the set we bought. I asked how long it would take to get them in, and he said that they had them in the back. He offered financing if we needed it and mentioned that they could deliver them. Being the penny pincher that I am, I called some friends and borrowed a truck to pick them up by myself. I went back to the store within an hour and the associate greeted me with a smile, called two more guys and walked with me to the back of the store. The three employees joked and grunted as they lifted the couches into my borrowed truck and helped to tie them down.

I brought the couches home and have been constantly pleased. As I type this, I am sitting incredibly comfortably on a couch that was beyond affordable. I tell everyone I know to go to Big Lots when they tell me they are looking for furniture. Almost everyone responds the same. “No. Not Big Lots! How much did you say you paid?” Big Lots will surprise you if you are looking to save money but still have quality. Just think of better things while you walk in and wait to make your judgment once you’ve checked out their merchandise.

Starbucks Coffee Tyler Texas

January 8th, 2010

The most popular hangouts in Tyler are coffee shops. What’s not to love? Coffee of any kind, people, and most importantly, WiFi. Tyler built its fourth Starbucks last year. Each one is appropriate for all crowds. If you are a teenager looking for a place to hang out with friends, or if you are a hard studying college student in need of a classroom, or a businessman or woman looking for a conference room. I don’t know if it’s the smell of the cooking coffee bean, the set up of the room, or the some what odd services, but it’s the place that business gets done. To some it is a sanctuary, a place to get away from the rush of everyday life and just relax. It appeals to your tastes. Starbucks is famous for its unending menu. Caramel, mocha, half-caff, just plain coffee, express yourself through your every coffee craving.

One of the most important tools in our modern world is the internet. Starbucks makes it easy to use their internet services. The relaxing environment makes it easy to chat with friends or finish that term paper.

Each Starbucks has its own feel. Whether it’s in a popular book store or on the crowded outdoor shopping center or in the parking lot of a grocery store, each one’s location is convenient for your every day life.

It might seem ridiculous to pay $5 for a cup of coffee; but I think its more than the coffee, it’s the experience and the convenience of each location. Starbucks is one of the best places to hangout and relax and just be you! So visit one of Tyler’s four location and sit back and enjoy a cup of coffee!

Southside Bank in Tyler Texas

January 6th, 2010

There are a lot of banks to choose from. So why choose Southside Bank in Tyler TX?

Southside is a local bank that might just trick you. It is a small town, folksy business, but it also offers many of the benefits associated with the large national chains. Need an ATM? Southside Bank has a full range of ATM’s all around the city: 19 of them at last count. Do you need online banking? Southside does that, too, and does it well. This is no mom & pop establishment. Southside isn’t afraid to change with the times.

Southside Bank has fifteen separate Tyler Texas bank locations, and several more in Lindale and Whitehouse. While they have large locations like the main office on South Beckham or their South Broadway branch, most Southside branches are located inside of Tyler’s most popular shopping centers. Southside jumped on the “bank inside the grocery store” trend early, and it has paid off for them. They are known as the “most convenient bank in east Texas.” There is hardly a Brookshires or Albertsons within 50 miles that doesn’t boast a Southside Bank office. This was a wonderful benefit for my family. We found ourselves going to Brookshires for various items multiple times every week. And whenever we were there, we could hop in to Southside to deposit a check or pull out some cash. No separate stops were necessary![ad#large-blog-block]

My wife and I had multiple accounts with Southside Bank for years in Tyler, and we were always satisfied. It was not easy to get an account set up since we were coming in from out of state. That is the obvious downside of doing business with a local bank. National chains like US Bank and Bank of America have branches all over the nation, so starting out of state accounts or transferring money is never a problem. But once we did get our accounts set up with them, we were very satisfied. Did they make the typical small town mistakes? Yes, occasionally. They have their share of clerical errors, but whether they have more than a typical national bank is debatable. Any teller can hit a wrong key by mistake. But whenever those things came up, the tellers or bankers always worked quickly and apologetically to remedy the situation.

And that might be the best reason of all to choose Southside Bank: quality customer service. The men and women of Southside are always courteous and professional. They seemed to enjoy their work, and that is probably why they consistently did a good job.

If you are looking for a new bank to handle your checking accounts, business expenses, home loans, etc, Southside Bank of Tyler Texas can handle it. They may be small, but they are able.
